Network traffic of Internet will continue to expand in terms of both volume and users, and transmission control protocol (TCP) is accounting for more than 90% the Internet traffic. In addition to this, it is well known that Internet traffic exhibits self-similarity, which cannot be described by traditional Markovian models such as the Poisson process. In this paper we focus on experimental quantitative comparisons of four TCP variants namely Tahoe, NewReno, Vegas, and SACK running over self-similar traffic. With the aid of network simulator, NS2, aggregated network traffic of self-similarity behavior is simulated and will act as the background traffic. The impact of one TCP microflow will be observed, and data analysis such packets dropped, packets retransmitted, throughput, and the behavior of the data received over time is analyzed. In measuring the degree of self-similarity we employed optimization method to determine Hurst parameter, H. From our analysis, Vegas out performed other TCP variants at high traffic load and all TCP variants tend to demonstrate self-similar traffic flow even though initially the departure rate of TCP packets is constant. © 2005 IEEE.

Lack of hearing ability hinders deaf children from mastering grammar in language studies. Unfortunately, such software targeting Malay language is limited. This paper attempts to generate new approach in handling such software. These include detection of defects when switching into local languages, date format and accomm.dating the local laws. The acceptance of international software for local use goes beyond just these aspects. For this purpose, software that supports the multi-languages is evaluated. The main research question of this paper: The lack of cultural dimensions in localisation testing of assistive technology decreases the effectiveness of localisation testing of the localised software. On the account of cultural dimensions, Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions will be experimented to study which cultural dimensions are most suited for such software. From our empirical results, the failure rate of the testing is higher compared to incorporating culture dimensions. © 2011 IEEE.

The fast development of wireless comm.nication technologies such as VANET and telematics services is getting popular. Some of them, such as the traffic management system, audio/video streaming services and location-based services, need large Internet bandwidth which may exceed the available bandwidth of a vehicle. In this paper, an Authority-based Idle Bandwidth Sharing Approach (AIBSA) is proposed to provide extra bandwidth for vehicles required to access telematics services. To achieve this goal, AIBSA creates an overlay of idle bandwidth information for vehicles, including their authority relationships and quantities of idle bandwidth. Using that information, AIBSA helps vehicles obtain extra Internet access bandwidth from other vehicles through inter-vehicle comm.nication (IVC) via a short range wireless interface which differs from the main Internet access interface. The maximum flow planning principle is adopted to develop a novel idle bandwidth planning algorithm which can find out one or more authorized bandwidth utilization paths for the demanding vehicles to get expected Internet bandwidth from the idle bandwidth owners. The proposed planning algorithm also considers the overall status of idle bandwidth demands and supplies, global idle bandwidth utilization efficiency, and authorization policies. Using AIBSA, the authority, bandwidth competition and low idle bandwidth utilization problems in traditional bandwidth sharing schemes can be solved. A simulation program is developed to evaluate the performance of AIBSA, and the simulation result shows that it can largely enhance the global utilization of idle bandwidth in a VANET. © 2011 ASCE.

Automatic recognition of human faces is a significant problem in the development and application of pattern recognition. We introduce a simple technique for identification of human faces in cluttered scenes based on neural nets. In the detection phase, neural nets are used to test whether a window of 20/spl times/20 pixels contains a face or not. A major difficulty in the learning process comes from the large database required for face/nonface images. We solve this problem by dividing these data into two groups. Such a division results in reduction of computational complexity and thus decreasing the time and memory needed during the testing of an image. For the recognition phase, feature measurements are made through Fourier descriptors. Such features are used as input to the neural classifier for training and recognition of ten human faces. Simulation results for the proposed algorithm show a good performance during testing.

Simulation results for the proposed algorithm show good performance compared with previous results.

Satellite networks are one of the most important components that fulfill the world’s need for connectivity. To ensure that comm.nication is efficient and reliable, robust routing algorithms are a must. Because, although it is true that certain routing characteristics may not be permanently and continuously flawless, a routing technique must effectively adapt to modifications in such network characteristics. The new routing method uses a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model to manage dynamic metrics for Low Earth Orbit satellite networks. This LSTM model is aimed at predicting the optimal routing direction on the premise that a satellite is soon to be, by looking back through old satellite position data. Through simulation and analysis, the upgraded algorithm with LSTM prediction brought large profit in network efficiency, which includes lowering end-to-end delay (reduction of average packet life time) and raising throughput. These results underscore just how important is this research into satellite networks.

Modern telecomm.nication systems rely on satellite networks to provide global coverage, especially in remote areas. Handover in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks raises significant new challenges. Conventional handover algorithms rely on fixed, predefined rules and static thresholds to make a handover decision. However, these static handover algorithms often become inefficient under the dynamics of satellite movements and time-varying network conditions. Hence, we argue that it would be beneficial to measure the proximity of satellites to the specific cellular base station. This relative proximity helps in optimizing the handovers proactively. This results in the improved service quality and lower latency. We formulate a viable way of enhancing satellite handovers using distance-based predictive models and incorporating satellite bandwidth and path loss. Simulation results on actual satellite data shows more than $40 \%$ improvements in handover latency while ensuring the user receives adequate signal strength to maintain the network connectivity and minimizing the handover failure by $80 \%$.
