The last years, the voice and the Internet access services have become a commodity, having as a result the offering from network providers, both fixed and mobile, a bunch of services. These developments are posing new requirements to existing networks, which are circuit based, and an evolution path is needed towards next generation networks, which allows the provision of multimedia services with guarantee quality of service. Mobile operators are facing the greatest challenges, since they have to reform their networks in order to provide data and multimedia services and the definition of the IP multimedia Subsystem (IMS) framework is one step towards that direction. The purpose of this paper is to shed light on significant issues, in terms of network architecture and protocols of multimedia next generation networks,,allowing the definition of an evolution scenario of existing networks towards next generation multimedia networks.

The purpose of this study was to explore the awareness of Technology strategic usefulness of computers as a searching tool. The argument of this study was that people using technology because of knowing its usefulness. If people recognized usefulness of technology, the strategic usefulness would be enhanced aware via the learning of technology strategic importance. A nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design was applied on senior high school students in the study. The sampled subjects were one hundred and eleven students. Fifty-five of them were treated as the experimental group, and the other fifty-six were treated as the control-group. Members of experimental group were offered classes based on original uses of web-search and teaching of "Technology Strategic Usefulness, TSU" material. On the other hand, the member-students of control group were offered with ordinary uses of Web-search. An evaluation tool was designed for learning achievement of logic. For both technology usefulness and technology strategic usefulness, a scale of usefulness was also layout. After the experimental treatment, students took both Web-search Logic Achievement Test and Technology strategic usefulness of Web-search Scale. Statistical analysis was applied to reveal the experimental results. The findings of this research are :(1) the relationship between usefulness and strategic importance was significant. (2) Strategic importance is an antecedent of technology strategic usefulness.

Virtual Enterprises are a, relatively, new business model that is greatly depended on network technology. Providing services in such an environment is a challenge in itself;architectural, technological and organisational difficulties have not permitted yet the development of a framework for Virtual Enterprise enaction. This paper introduces the architecture of an open information and communication platform that integrates all relevant participants in health and social sector. The main concept of the proposed platform is based on concept introduced by new computing paradigms and the need of transformation of the existing internetworking and web technologies into a human resource pool that will be accessible by anyone, at anytime, and from everywhere in support of their needs. This platform intends to create the essential infrastructure for the provisioning of health and social services to individuals that receive residential care using Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks over Internet, GSM and PSTN networks. The use of new computing models such as Service-Oriented computing, Grid, P2P and argumentation technologies are discussed. Hypermedia, being complex information objects, are difficult to manage. In this paper we propose some new algorithms for searching and retrieving hypermedia documents from a local server by taking advantage content and context information. Light emitting diodes (LED) are usually the alternative optoelectronic devices for optical communications with moderate bandwidth efficiency and bit rates, compared to semiconductor lasers. Laser applications dominate the long distance communication networks. However LED seems to be a very good solution, especially in very short distance communication networks, where Plastic Optical Fibers, (POF) are used as the optical transmission medium. This paper investigates a qualitative technique of calculating the bandwidth, based on first principles of semiconductor physics. This technique is more convenient for a first approach of the subject on optical communication networks and its simplicity provides a very useful analytical tool. Finally these results are compared with the existing experimental ones.

Over the next 10 years, we anticipate that personal, portable, wirelessly-networked technologies will become ubiquitous in the lives of learners — indeed, in many countries, this is already a reality. We see that ready-to-hand access creates the potential for a new phase in the evolution of technology-enhanced learning (TEL), characterized by "seamless learning spaces" and marked by continuity of the learning experience across different scenarios (or environments), and emerging from the availability of one device or more per student ("one-to-one"). One-to-one TEL has the potential to "cross the chasm" from early adopters conducting isolated design studies to adoption-based research and widespread implementation, with the help of research and evaluation that gives attention to the digital divide and other potentially negative consequences of pervasive computing. We describe technology-enhanced learning and the affordances of one-to-one computing and outline a research agenda, including the risks and challenges of reaching scale. We reflect upon how this compares with prior patterns of technology innovation and diffusion. We also introduce a community, called "G1:1," that brings together leaders of major research laboratories and one-to-one TEL projects. We share a vision of global research, inviting other research groups to collaborate in ongoing activities.
