Indoor guidance is becoming a significant issue with the increasing number of buildings. This paper describes an Android based indoor map guidance system that assists and guides visitors inside public buildings (e.g. schools, shopping malls, airports, museums, exhibition centers). It utilizes NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and QR (Quick Response) Codes, which are low cost, to determine the location as well as to provide navigation within the buildings. Also, it provides a variety of helpful features such as finding destination, calculating shortest path, storing car parking location, giving feedback to building management, entering surveys for restaurants and coffee shops, finding nearest toilet and making donation. In addition, the system is bilingual and available in both English and Arabic versions. The developed system relies on a server that contains its web server, map server and spatial database. For wide accessibility, the whole system is developed using open source and freely-available software. For example, (a) the Android SDK is used to develop the client interface, (b) the Apache server is used for the web server, (c) Google sketch up and Quantum GIS are used to draw the floor plans, (d) Postgre SQL/PostGIS is used for spatial database to store the drawn floor plans, and (e) MapServer (MS4W) is used for map server to retrieve and draw the stored floor plans from the spatial database. Thus far, the developed mobile application has been fully evaluated and validated for use in a smart campus environment, which has been encapsulated in a test case study delineated herein.

Clustering forms the basis of a well structured Wireless Sensor Networks. Formation of efficient clusters leads to longer lifetime of the sensor networks. So we tend to optimize the initial clustering process. In this paper we have proposed Mean neighbor clustering algorithm that evenly distributes the nodes around the clusters and form well balanced clusters in the system. The proposed Mean neighbor clustering protocol uses the local neighborhood information to form balanced clusters in sensor networks. The proposed method is also compared with various existing clustering protocols in sensor networks. Comparison is done based on parameters like cluster number, average cluster, cluster range, circularity and hop distance. Simulations show that our proposed algorithm performs better than other neighborhood aware clustering techniques.

Techniques to reduce the search space when an optimizer seeks an optimal value are studied in this paper. A new mutation technique called the “Exponential Moving Average” algorithm (EMA) is introduced. The performance of EMA algorithms is compared to two other similar Computational Intelligence (CI) algorithms (an ordinary Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) and a “Mean-Variance Optimization” (MVO)) to solve a multi-dimensional problem which has a large search space. The classic Sudoku puzzle is chosen as the problem with a large search space.

In this paper we consider the ISS (input-to-state stability) and iISS (integral input-to-state stability) feedback control redesign for interconnected systems described by retarded nonlinear equations with discontinuous right-hand side. We show that it is possible to design a decentralized controller by which the overall closed-loop system is iISS (ISS) with respect to additive disturbances acting on each subsystem whenever the disturbance-free closed-loop system satisfies a small-gain condition.

Needle Electromyography, in combination with nerve conduction studies, is the gold standard methodology for assessing the neurophysiologic effects of neuromuscular diseases. Muscle categorization is typically based on visual and auditory assessment of the morphology and activation patterns of its constituent motor units. A procedure which is highly dependent on the skills and level of experience of the examiner. This motivates the development of automated or semi-automated categorization techniques. This paper describes a 2-stage Gaussian mixture model based approach. In the first stage, a muscle is classified as neurogenic or myopathic. The second stage uses a classifier specific to each disease category to confirm or refute the disease involvement. A total of 2556 motor unit potentials sampled from 48 normal, 30 neurogenic and 20 myopathic tibialis anterior muscles were utilized for this study. The proposed approach showed an average accuracy of 91.25%, which is higher than the compared linear and non-linear multi-class schemas. In addition to improved accuracy, the 2-stage approach is more suitable for the muscle categorization, because it has a hierarchical decision structure similar to current clinical practice, and its output can be interpreted as a measure of confidence.

Portfolio replication problem is to optimize the portfolio such that its proportion-weighted combination is the same as the given benchmark portfolio. However, the benchmark portfolio generally opens only the return to the public but other information such as the assets included in the portfolio, the proportion-weighted combination, the rebalancing date and the investment strategies is closed to the public. In order to optimize such portfolios, we propose an optimization method based on the probabilistic model-building GA in this paper. On the other hand, we are focusing on the long-short portfolio optimization. The long-short portfolio consists of the assets with long positions in which they have bought and been held and with short positions in which they have been borrowed and sold. While applying any optimization method to the long-short portfolios, the portfolio as a feasible solution must be satisfied an equality constraint. In order to make the feasible solutions effectively, we propose two techniques and then apply them to our optimization method. In the numerical experiments, we show that our method has better ability to replicate the long-short portfolios with good fitness values. We found that, however, some portfolios were not replicated though our method worked well. We also discuss this problem in this paper.

In this study, ferroelectric CaBi 4 Ti 4 O 15 (CBT) thin films prepared by sol-gel method and deposited on ITO/glass substrates for applications in system-on-panel (SOP) devices were fabricated and investigated. The electrical and physical characteristics of as-deposited and annealed CBT thin films for metal-ferroelectric-metal (MFM) structures was discussed and investigated. In addition, the ferroelectric properties in annealed CBT thin films on ITO/glass substrate showed and exhibited clear polarization versus electrical field curves. From p - E curves, the 2 P r value and coercive field of annealed CBT thin films were calculated to be 10μC/cm 2 and 180 kV/cm, respectively. Finally, the maximum capacitance, leakage current density, and transmittance within the ultraviolet-visible (UV–vis) spectrum were also investigated and discussed.

To solve the problem of seriously distortion while enlarging images via seam carving,we proposed an improved method in this ***,we enlarged the image with hierarchical interpolation model to the size of power of two times of original, which is closest to target size, while applying iterative curvature-based interpolation algorithm to protected areas and nearest interpolation to non-protected *** then, some seams to the target size were avoided via seam carving *** the subjective analysis and objective evaluation, the experiment on both standard library images and spatial images showed that the proposed method gave satisfactory results.
