Underwater supporting robots serving as a relay of energy supplements and communication for other underwater equipment are promising for ocean exploration, development, and protection. This paper proposes a novel autonomous docking system centered on a designed supporting robotic fish named 'CourierFish'. Specifically, CourierFish is capable of docking with a surface dock station for supplying itself and docking with a seafloor platform for supporting equipment in the platform. A visual navigation scheme integrating LED and ArUco markers is presented for accurate localization. The control approach for docking motion is also illustrated. Simulations and aquatic experiments are performed to verify the feasibility of the proposed docking system. The obtained results lay a solid foundation for the construction of various underwater equipment and robot networks. © 2023 IEEE.

Because pixel values of foggy images are irregularly higher than those of images captured in normal weather(clear images),it is difficult to extract and express their *** method has previously been developed to directly explore the relationship between foggy images and semantic segmentation *** investigated this relationship and propose a generative adversarial network(GAN)for foggy image semantic segmentation(FISS GAN),which contains two parts:an edge GAN and a semantic segmentation *** edge GAN is designed to generate edge information from foggy images to provide auxiliary information to the semantic segmentation *** semantic segmentation GAN is designed to extract and express the texture of foggy images and generate semantic segmentation *** on foggy cityscapes datasets and foggy driving datasets indicated that FISS GAN achieved state-of-the-art performance.

The development of the scientific publishing system has remarkably enhanced global accessibility to research findings and substantially increased the visibility and dissemination of academic publications. However, significant challenges still exist in effectively safeguarding the intellectual property rights of contributors, such as the unauthorized usage of materials, the complexity of enforcing intellectual property rights across various legal jurisdictions, and high instances of plagiarism and content misuse. Additionally, financial barriers related to open access may restrict the participation of economically disadvantaged researchers, potentially biasing scientific records towards more affluent research initiatives. To address these issues, a novel decentralized framework is formulated to ensure truly open access. This framework leverages blockchain for immutable record-keeping and clear attribution of authorship, to prevent unauthorized usage and plagiarism. Besides, it also utilizes a copyright-sharing model based on decentralized autonomous organizations and operations (DAOs), where smart contracts automatically enforce copyright and access policies to ensure fair compensation for authors and researchers. Furthermore, the copyright sharing model based on non-fungible tokens (NFT) and gradual ownership optimization (GOO) mechanism is proposed to ensure fair and accurate recognition and compensation for scholarly contributions.

Learning impedance control of robots with enhanced transient and steady-state control performances

This study proposes a learning impedance controller comprising a proportional feedback control term, a composite-learning-based uncertainty estimation term, and a robot-environment interaction control term. The impedance control problem is converted into a particular reference-trajectory tracking problem based on a generated reference trajectory. The proposed controller ensures the exponential convergence of the auxiliary tracking error and the uncertainty estimation error. The interaction control term improves the transient control performance through suppression/encouragement of the incorrect/correct robot *** composite-learning update law enhances the transient and steady-state control performances based on the exponential convergence of the uncertainty estimation error and auxiliary tracking error. Finally, the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed impedance controller are validated by theoretical analysis and simulations on a parallel robot.

With the development of continuous fiber-reinforced composites (CFRCs) 3D printing technology, timely, efficient and accurate detection of fiber path defects is essential for ensuring product quality and performance. However, challenges still need to be addressed in this field, such as inadequate training data coverage and the complexity of fiber path structures. These factors hinder the capability of traditional methods to accurately assess the status of printed products. Therefore, developing accurate and robust fiber path defect detection techniques is crucial for CFRCs 3D printing technology. In this paper, we propose a precise detection method for fiber path defects in CFRCs 3D printing using the YOLOv7 object detection model combined with a Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) attention mechanism. By introducing the SE attention mechanism, we enhance the perception capability of the YOLOv7 model for crucial features, thereby improving the accuracy of fiber path defect detection. The experimental results show that the YOLOv7 model, when augmented with an attention mechanism, achieves an average accuracy of 93.9% in identifying fiber path defects during the printing process. Compared to models without this attention mechanism, the results show that there is 10.7% increase, with a notably enhanced learning capacity during the training phase, which substantiates the efficacy and practicality of the proposed approach. © 2024 IEEE.

Visuotactile sensing technology is becoming more popular in tactile sensing, but the effectiveness of the existing marker detection/localization methods remains to be further explored. Instead of contour-based blob detection, this paper presents a learning-based marker localization network for GelStereo visuotactile sensing called Marknet. Specifically, the Marknet presents a grid regression architecture to incorporate the distribution of the GelStereo markers. Furthermore, a marker rationality evaluator (MRE) is modelled to screen suitable prediction results. The experimental results show that the Marknet combined with MRE achieves 93.90% precision for irregular markers in contact areas, which outperforms the traditional contour-based blob detection method by a large margin of 42.32%. Meanwhile, the proposed learning-based marker localization method can achieve better realtime performance beyond the blob detection interface provided by the OpenCV library through GPU acceleration, which we believe will lead to considerable perceptual sensitivity gains in various robotic manipulation tasks. © 2022 IEEE.

Intelligent logistics with autonomous vehicles is promising to improve the efficiency of rapidly expanding delivery systems. However, complex environments, diverse packages, and irregular human interaction have imposed challenges to the application of unmanned delivery vehicles. Combining various forms of vehicles and developing knowledge-driven delivery services have been the key to further facilitating the upgrading of logistics systems. In this paper, we propose an integrated framework named LogisticsVISTA (Logistics on Vehicles with Intelligent systems for Transport Automation) comprised of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), UGVs (Unmanned Ground Vehicles), and USVs (Unmanned Surface Vehicles) to provide timely and flexible 3D delivery services. In LogisticsVISTA, we design Large language models (LLMs) and large multimodal models (LMMs) for task planning, active perception, autonomous decision, and human-machine interaction. Besides, virtual-real integrated parallel scenarios are constructed to provide the playing ground for embodied agents efficiently and flexibly.

The Potential of Low-Altitude Airspace: The Future of Urban Air Transportation

Many megacities, such as London, New York, Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, and Shanghai, have been born due to urban- ization. While citizens enjoy the convenience of city life, such cities suffer from drawbacks of transportation: the average commute time has been increasing over the past years. With the maturity of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft technology, decision-makers have started to look upward to the low-altitude airspace. This blue space has the potential to reshape the transportation system and shorten the average travel time in daily life. To explore this emerging area, we held a Distributed/Decentralized Hybrid Workshop on Sustain- ability for Transportation and Logistics (DHW-STL), and this letter summarizes the outcomes of our discussion. Here, we first pinpoint the pain issues of conventional transportation. Then, we present the emerging low-altitude airspace transportation option, followed by a discussion on how such a new transportation option can integrate with the conventional ground-based transportation system. Some thoughts about the pathway to further development of the integrated transportation system are shared finally.
