Further Studies of A Proof of Utkin's Theorem for ITSMC of Second Order Uncertain Plants

In this paper, the two sliding surface part transformations are investigated for ITSMC (integral terminal sliding mode control) of second-order uncertain linear plants when the input gain uncertainty of the system is not zero i.e. ∆b≠0 as the further study of [33] and as the alternative methods of [33]. As highlighted in [33], the realm of designing ITSMCs encompasses five distinctive approaches: control input transformation, sliding surface full transformation, and three variations of sliding surface part transformations. While the discussion on the first three methods has been comprehensively covered in [33], this paper centers its focus on the previously unexplored last two transformations. These latter two transformations are presented as novel alternatives to the approaches detailed in [33]. The initial three transformations, as elucidated in [33], demonstrate a performance wherein the real output can be effectively predicted through the utilization of solutions derived from the ideal sliding dynamics. These solutions are thoughtfully pre-designed and predetermined through the application of the ideal sliding dynamics. This paper significantly contributes by presenting a comprehensive exploration of the last two transformation methods, achieving performance on par with the first three transformations described in [33]. These final two sliding surface part transformations stand as noteworthy design methodologies for ITSMCs with the same performance as in [33], offering alternative avenues in contrast to those laid out in [33]. The practical value of our key findings is effectively demonstrated through an illustrative example and an extensive simulation study, thereby underscoring the pertinence and applicability of our research outcomes. © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

A Proof of Utkin's Theorem for ITSMC with Output Prediction of Second Order Uncertain Plants

In this paper, a complete proof of Utkin's theorem is presented for the ITSMC(integral terminal sliding mode control) of second order uncertain linear plants when ∆b≠0. The addition of integral action to the TSMCs so called the ITSMC enhances performance in both transient and steady states. Therefore, proof of Utkin's theorem is essential for ITSMC systems. There are five approaches to designing ITSMCs;control input transformation, sliding surface full transformation, and three sliding surface part transformations, which is for first time pointed out in this paper. The invariance property of the Utkin's theorem applies only to the first two transformations. Specifically, the sliding mode equation, i.e., the sliding surface, remains invariant for the first two transformations. However, the invariance property of Utkin's theorem can not apply to the three additional sliding surface part transformations, although they serve as design and stabilization approaches. The sliding surface full transformation first appears in the TSMCs, except in [32], while the three sliding surface part transformations appear for the first time in the TSMCs. This paper includes research on the first three transformations, and further studies will cover the last two sliding surface part transformations. This paper presents three transformation methods that achieve the same performances as those obtained through output prediction, predetermination, and predesign. Comparison of Output Characteristic of Six-Phase Synchronous Motor with Different Winding Configurations and Rotor Shape Variations

In a six-phase system, the difference in phase shift affects the winding factor and the degree of magnetic coupling, which influences the motor performance. However, the phase shift can lead to complex problems in motor design because both the phase shift and the rotor shape affect the performance of the motor. Therefore, the phase shift should be selected by considering its combination with shape parameters. This study analyzed the output characteristics according to the six-phase winding configuration and rotor geometry. The motor type used in this study is a synchronous reluctance motor, and the six-phase winding is classified into three types (Type 1, Type 2, Type 3) based on the phase shift. Afterwards, finite element analysis simulations were conducted by adjusting the values of the rotor shape parameters for each winding type. The result showed that the phase shift has a minimal impact on the rotor shape. Furthermore, analysis of the simulation confirmed that the parameters in the d-axis region are relatively more affected. Therefore, these analysis results can be utilized in future research related to the design of six-phase rotor shapes. Copyright © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

As renewable energy has been rapidly increasing, as renewable power outgrows load demand, power system reliability becomes a major issue. The ultimate solution for this issue is to store surplus energy without curtailment. Among the energy storage technology, P2G(Power-to-Gas) that convert and store surplus energy into hydrogen in MES(Multi Energy System) is the most resonable solution. In addition, it is more economical feasible when using electrolyzer connected hydro power plant. For stable electrolyzer operation, In this paper, we derive scheduling by considering the operating characteristics of the electrolyzer. And we estimate the optimal capacity of ESS, electrolyzer connected hydro power usint optimization. As a result of the simulation, the NPV(Net Present Value) is maximum when the capacity of the electrolyzer is 265 kW. Copyright ©The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

Probabilistic Model for Wind Power Generation with Kernel Density Estimation

As the proportion of renewable energy sources that are intermittent and variability increases, system uncertainty is increasing, and a probabilistic analysis that can reflect these characteristics is required. In this paper, we propose a method for generating a probablistic wind power generation model using kernel density estimation. The boundary bias problem caused by using kernel density estimation for wind power generation data is eliminated through the boundary correction method, and a bandwidth suitable for the data can be selected through the bandwidth selector. Scenarios were created from probabilistic models made in various ways, and the accuracy of the models was validated by comparing them with real data. As a result, the accuracy was improved when the scenario was created by generating the model directly from the wind power generation data by estimating the kernel density estimation. Magnetic bearing motors are in high demand due to their ability to operate in special environments without mechanical friction and lubrication, effectively avoiding wear and contamination. To overcome the complexity and maximum speed limitations, bearingless PMSMs (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) have been developed. This study explains the electromagnetic driving principles of bearingless PMSMs based on generation conditions and the components of suspension forces. Furthermore, the permanent magnets arranged on the rotor are designed to alter the magnetic flux distribution using various magnetization patterns. FEA(Finite Element Analysis) was conducted for each model, and the derived results were compared and analyzed. This study investigates the performance of bearingless PMSMs based on different rotor permanent magnet arrangements, and draws a comprehensive conclusion. © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

Alzheimer's disease is a long-term illness character-ized by a decline in abilities and the development of dementia. The main objective of this study is to explore the potential of using EEG-based classification for identifying and comprehending Alzheimer's disease in its stages. EEG, which measures brain ac-tivity, offers insights into the functioning of neurons. By applying machine learning techniques to EEG data, we have seen results in distinguishing between individuals with Alzheimer's disease and those without it. For our research, we used a dataset that included EEG recordings from individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, and healthy individuals for comparison. We extracted Mel coefficients (MFCC) as features and trained our models using decision trees and LightGBM classifiers. To evaluate their effectiveness, we assessed accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and the area under the operating curve (AUC ROC). Our results showed accuracy in differentiating between Alzheimer's patients and healthy individuals, with an 89.3% accuracy rate along with AUC ROC values of 0.989 for the decision tree classifier and 98.64 % and 1.0 for the Igbm classifier, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of combining EEG-based classification with machine learning algorithms for diagnosis and personalized treatment planning for Alzheimer's disease. © 2024 IEEE.

The commercialization technology of lithium-ion batteries has changed various industrial trends, including e-mobility and shipbuilding industries. In the shipbuilding industry, the ship's electric propulsion system is a system that applies torque and rotational force of an motor to ship's propulsion power, and the capacity of the power system affects ship's operating time and is classified as a major technology. Lithium-ion batteries have many effects in the industry, but they generate heat during the battery charging and discharging process, and the battery temperature is affected by environmental temperature, so a range of controlled temperatures is required. In this paper, the power system of electric propulsion ships is proposed as a module combination, and the maintain temperature range of modules is derived from parallel experiments on temperature and charge and discharge. According to the experimental results, the charging & discharging efficiency and safety of the power supply module can be expected if natural cooling or forced cooling is performed to maintain the temperature of the installation area below 40℃. © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

This paper mainly introduces an optimized matching pursuit algorithm for the reconstruction of seismic reflection events. It adopts intelligent optimization algorithms of genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm algorithm (PSO) to matching pursuit algorithm for improving the processing effect and efficiency. Through experiments on synthetic seismic records and field seismic data, it demonstrates that both GA-MP and PSO-MP can reconstruct the reflection events effectively and efficiency, while PSO-MP performs better especially in waveform reconstruction. © 2024 IEEE.

Optimal Model Selection of Long Short-Term Memory for Mid-Term Electric Load Forecasting

This paper proposes an optimal electric load forecasting technique by applying several activation functions and optimization methods in the internal structure of the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) algorithm to forecast mid-term electric load in Korea. As the activation function, the rectified linear unit (ReLU) and hyperbolic tangent (Tanh) are used. Optimization methods such as stochastic gradient descent (SGD) and adaptive moment optimization (Adam) are compared in the paper. In the input data, daily peak load over past seven days, maximum and minimum temperatures are used. In order to increase the efficiency of learning, special weeks and special day load data are replaced. The proposed method shows stable and great performance with small average errors, compared to the RANN based forecasting method which is a previous study. Especially, the estimated error is improved in the summer and winter where the temperature changes significantly. Copyright © 2022 The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.
