This paper presents the design of an on-board power supply for the tether drone system used in commercial and military applications. The power supply is crucial for delivering DC power to the propulsion and control systems of the tethered drone. This paper proposes an interleaved LLC resonant converter as the main topology and presents the design and implementation of the converter and control circuits. The integrated magnetic design of the transformer and inductor is also proposed to improve the power density of the converter. The proposed techniques were applied to a 1.6kW converter with input/output voltages of 400V/50V, and experimental results are provided to verify the design of the proposed scheme. © 2023 The Korean Institute of Power electronics.

In this article, the takeover time for the operation of automated ships are determined for the first time. Differences and similarities in terms of definitions and procedures between automotive engineering and experimental conditions are presented. Using the simulated example of a canal encountering situation with simple complexity dimensions, two criteria for determining the success of a takeover situation are defined. A TOT analysis is carried out on the basis of both definitions. The results show that takeover times of more than 20 s can be expected. © 2024 IEEE.

A large number of people in Bangladesh, especially in the coastal areas, are still deprived of on-grid electricity power, especially in the country's coastal islands and hilly regions. Getting the motivation to bring them under the blessings of electric power, a design consisting of multiple renewable energy sources is proposed in this paper. Geographically, the country is located in a suitable position for exploiting renewable energy since it locates near the tropical region. This paper presents the design of a hybrid topology-based renewable energy system consisting of solar and wind power and battery support. The design is mainly proposed for the insular coastal region people. Since solar and wind powers have fluctuating natures, feedback circuit-based Multi-Input-Single-Output Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) is used. The DC-DC SEPIC converter is utilized in boost mode operation. Also, batteries are connected to the system for backup as storage devices in case of gloomy weather. The topology is validated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. Moreover, the design is fed into Homer Optimization Tool with a view to justifying the technical feasibility and economic analysis. Different intermittence situations, solar irradiance, and seasonal fluctuation were also taken into consideration throughout the software assessment. The reason behind using wind and solar energy for hybridization is the lack of infrastructure to utilize hydro power and geothermal energy everywhere in Bangladesh. Although numerous earlier research works analyzed hybrid systems, this work presents a thorough techno-economic analysis of hybrid systems with backup and comprehensive simulation findings. Hatiya, a largely rural island detached from mainland Bangladesh is considered here for analysis. A small community of Hatiya is considered during the simulation in HOMER. All of the analysis is done based on the geographical position of Hatiya in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.

A Proof of Utkin's Theorem for ITSMC with Output Prediction of Second Order Uncertain Plants

In this paper, a complete proof of Utkin's theorem is presented for the ITSMC(integral terminal sliding mode control) of second order uncertain linear plants when ∆b≠0. The addition of integral action to the TSMCs so called the ITSMC enhances performance in both transient and steady states. Therefore, proof of Utkin's theorem is essential for ITSMC systems. There are five approaches to designing ITSMCs;control input transformation, sliding surface full transformation, and three sliding surface part transformations, which is for first time pointed out in this paper. The invariance property of the Utkin's theorem applies only to the first two transformations. Specifically, the sliding mode equation, i.e., the sliding surface, remains invariant for the first two transformations. However, the invariance property of Utkin's theorem can not apply to the three additional sliding surface part transformations, although they serve as design and stabilization approaches. The sliding surface full transformation first appears in the TSMCs, except in [32], while the three sliding surface part transformations appear for the first time in the TSMCs. This paper includes research on the first three transformations, and further studies will cover the last two sliding surface part transformations. This paper presents three transformation methods that achieve the same performances as those obtained through output prediction, predetermination, and predesign. Nowadays, voltage source converters are commonly used in renewable energy penetration and the smooth control of ac machines. Multiple strategies are followed in designing these converters. The primary purpose of the distinct design is to minimize the harmonic contents from the output waves of the converters and ensure maximum efficiency. In this paper, a three-phase bridge converter feeding a rectified dc input is interfaced with an RL load in the MATLAB/Simulink platform to compare the operational characteristics of these techniques. The total harmonic distortion is also analyzed in all these techniques to illustrate their performance in drive control. Moreover, the impact of varying dc-link voltage, load conditions, switching frequency and duty cycle on these techniques' operational char-acteristics and performances are investigated, primarily focusing on resulting harmonic contents evaluation. © 2023 IEEE.

In a six-phase system, the difference in phase shift affects the winding factor and the degree of magnetic coupling, which influences the motor performance. However, the phase shift can lead to complex problems in motor design because both the phase shift and the rotor shape affect the performance of the motor. Therefore, the phase shift should be selected by considering its combination with shape parameters. This study analyzed the output characteristics according to the six-phase winding configuration and rotor geometry. The motor type used in this study is a synchronous reluctance motor, and the six-phase winding is classified into three types (Type 1, Type 2, Type 3) based on the phase shift. Afterwards, finite element analysis simulations were conducted by adjusting the values of the rotor shape parameters for each winding type. The result showed that the phase shift has a minimal impact on the rotor shape. Furthermore, analysis of the simulation confirmed that the parameters in the d-axis region are relatively more affected. Therefore, these analysis results can be utilized in future research related to the design of six-phase rotor shapes. Copyright © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

Alzheimer's disease is a long-term illness character-ized by a decline in abilities and the development of dementia. The main objective of this study is to explore the potential of using EEG-based classification for identifying and comprehending Alzheimer's disease in its stages. EEG, which measures brain ac-tivity, offers insights into the functioning of neurons. By applying machine learning techniques to EEG data, we have seen results in distinguishing between individuals with Alzheimer's disease and those without it. For our research, we used a dataset that included EEG recordings from individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, and healthy individuals for comparison. We extracted Mel coefficients (MFCC) as features and trained our models using decision trees and LightGBM classifiers. To evaluate their effectiveness, we assessed accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and the area under the operating curve (AUC ROC). Our results showed accuracy in differentiating between Alzheimer's patients and healthy individuals, with an 89.3% accuracy rate along with AUC ROC values of 0.989 for the decision tree classifier and 98.64 % and 1.0 for the Igbm classifier, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of combining EEG-based classification with machine learning algorithms for diagnosis and personalized treatment planning for Alzheimer's disease.

Inertial navigation has gained extensive application because it solely relies on built-in Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) devices. Nevertheless, due to its inherent accumulative integral error, inertial navigation is often integrated with other external devices in practical situations, which unfortunately leads to unavoidable privacy breaches. To address these issues, an Inertial Navigation Neural Network (INN) is designed to generate high-precision position estimations without relying on any other auxiliary information. The INN model consists of attitude correction and velocity regression modules. The attitude module employs a convolutional network to correct the attitude information, and the obtained rotation matrices are then fed into a recurrent neural network to regress incremental velocities and produce high-precision positions. The proposed model is validated on the simulated trajectories based on the Precise Strapdown Inertial Navigation System (PSINS) toolbox. Experimental studies demonstrated that the proposed method has a significant corrective effect on high-dynamic strapdown inertial navigation settings. The accumulated position errors are an order of magnitude smaller than those of traditional track reckoning algorithms and achieved a comparable performance with integrated navigation. © 2024 IEEE.

Alzheimer's disease is a debilitating neurological condition impacting millions globally. Therefore, an accurate diagnosis plays a major role in treating or managing it effectively. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs), popular deep learning algorithms applied to image processing tasks, offer such an opportunity in this study where a CNN model for classifying Alzheimer's patients was proposed. The research yielded impressive results: recall and precision scores as high as 0.9958 which indicate trustworthy identification of true positives while maintaining few false positives;test accuracy exceeding 99% confirming desirable generalization capabilities from the training dataset to live scenarios;ROC AUC score at an astronomical height of 0.9999 signifying great potential in distinguishing between afflicted individuals from their non-affected counterparts accurately. The proposed network achieved a good classification accuracy. Comparing the proposed model alongside two state of the art models VGG19 and ResNet50 resulted in superior performance for the proposed model demonstrating CNNs can increase diagnostic precision and effectiveness of Alzheimer's disease, leading to early detection, enhanced treatment plans, and enriching the quality of life for those affected. © 2023 IEEE.

As renewable energy has been rapidly increasing, as renewable power outgrows load demand, power system reliability becomes a major issue. The ultimate solution for this issue is to store surplus energy without curtailment. Among the energy storage technology, P2G(Power-to-Gas) that convert and store surplus energy into hydrogen in MES(Multi Energy System) is the most resonable solution. In addition, it is more economical feasible when using electrolyzer connected hydro power plant. For stable electrolyzer operation, In this paper, we derive scheduling by considering the operating characteristics of the electrolyzer. And we estimate the optimal capacity of ESS, electrolyzer connected hydro power usint optimization. As a result of the simulation, the NPV(Net Present Value) is maximum when the capacity of the electrolyzer is 265 kW. Copyright ©The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.
