A multi-trace surface integral equation (MT-SIE) solver is proposed to analyze electromagnetic field interactions on graphene-based devices. This solver decomposes the computation domain into an exterior subdomain (the background medium where the device resides in) and an interior subdomain that represents the device's dielectric substrate. The infinitesimally thin graphene sheet partially covers the interface between these two subdomains. On the graphene surface and the rest of this interface, resistive Robin transmission conditions (formulated for the first time in this work) and the traditional Robin transmission conditions are used to "connect"these two subdomains, respectively. In each subdomain, the electric and magnetic field equations are used as the governing equations. Various numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and the applicability of the proposed MT-SIE solver. © 2022 IEEE.

A queue in health facilities happened when the service capacity is limited, while the patients keep arriving and then waiting. In many cases, besides waiting, customers can be rejected from the system (balking). This case was considered as the cause of the daily positive cases of COVID-19 patients in Arcamanik Sub City Area (SCA). This observation was conducted from September 17, 2020 to February 4, 2021. Arcamanik SCA was frequently included in one of the highest positive cases of COVID-19 in Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia. The server used was the number of beds in Hermina Arcamanik Hospital, the referral hospital in the observed area. The method used a discrete event simulation, with an Erlang B queuing model (G/M/c):(FIFO/c/∞). The more the servers, the more chances the patients being rejected would converge to zero. The minimum required bed was 32 beds, hence patients who come were not rejected. Meanwhile, the rejected patients can visit another hospital as an alternative, one of which is Hasan Sadikin hospital (Rumah Sakit Hasan Sadikin/RSHS) as the central hospital of Bandung City. The proportion of beds for patients from Arcamanik SCA was 0.16 times the excess empty beds. For patients to receive treatment at the two hospitals, the number of COVID-19 cases must not exceed 62 cases. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This study prepared dumbbell-shaped titanium dioxide (TiO2)/gold nanorods (AuNRs) coated with mesoporous silica shells (mS) (AuNRs-TiO2@mS). Methotrexate (MTX) was further loaded into the AuNRs-TiO2@mS, and then upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) were decorated to form AuNRs-TiO2@mS-MTX: UCNP nanocomposites. TiO2 is used as an intense photosensitizer (PS) to produce cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to photodynamic therapy (PDT). Concurrently, AuNRs exhibited intense photothermal therapy (PTT) effects and photothermal conversion efficiency. In vitro results suggested that these nanocomposites can kill oral cancer cells (HSC-3) without toxicity through irradiation of NIR laser, owing to the synergistic effect. The in vivo studies indicated that these nanocomposites exhibited excellent antitumor effects through synergistic PDT/PTT/chemotherapy under a near-infrared (NIR) 808 nm laser irradiation. Thus, these AuNRs-TiO2@mS: UCNP nanocomposites have great potential to undergo deep tissue penetration with enhanced synergistic effects through NIR-triggered light for cancer treatment. © 2023 American Chemical Society

Magnesium alloys containing biocompatible components show tremendous promise for applications as temporary biomedical devices. However, to ensure their safe use as biodegradeable implants, it is essential to control their corrosion rates. In concentrated Mg alloys, a microgalvanic coupling between the α-Mg matrix and secondary precipitates exists which results in increased corrosion rate. To address this challenge, we engineered the microstructure of a biodegradable Mg-Zn-RE-Zr alloy by friction stir processing (FSP), improving its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties simultaneously. The FS processed alloy with refined grains and broken and uniformly distributed secondary precipitates showed a relatively uniform corrosion morphology accompanied with the formation of a stable passive layer on the alloy surface. In vivo corrosion evaluation of the processed alloy in a small animal model showed that the material was well-tolerated with no signs of inflammation or harmful by-products. Remarkably, the processed alloy supported bone until it healed till eight weeks with a low in vivo corrosion rate of 0.7 mm/year. Moreover, we analyzed blood and histology of the critical organs such as liver and kidney, which showed normal functionality and consistent ion and enzyme levels, throughout the 12- week study period. These results demonstrate that the processed Mg-Zn-RE-Zr alloy offers promising potential for osseointegration in bone tissue healing while also exhibiting controlled biodegradability due to its engineered microstructure. The results from the present study will have profound benefit for bone fracture management, particularly in pediatric and elderly patients.

While deep learning can offer a promising approach to sentiment analysis, it often presents challenges in complexity and explainability. Alternatively, sentiment analysis based on dictionaries has been explored. In this paper, subword-Level dictionaries in English are considered to address performance degradation resulting from domain mismatches. To work at subword level, a framework based on naive bayes machine learning algorithm is exploited. Furthermore, stopwords at the subword level have been proposed to remove additional interference intrinsic to subword tokenization. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed method achieves higher accuracy and F1 scores compared to the conventional dictionary-based method when there is a mismatch between the dictionary and the corpus of documents while performing marginally worse than state-of-the-art deep learning methods when applied to datasets from the same domain.

Extremely large water droplet impact onto a deep liquid pool

Most studies of droplet impact on liquid pools focus on droplet diameters up to the capillary length (0.27 cm). We break from convention and study extremely large water droplets (1 to 6 cm diameter) falling into a pool of water. We demonstrate that the depth and width of the cavity formed by large droplet impact is greatly influenced by the deformed shape of the droplet at impact (i.e., prolate, spherical, and oblate), and larger droplets amplify this behavior by flattening before impact. In particular, the maximum cavity depth is a function of the Froude number and axis ratio of the droplet just before impact. Further, the cavity depth is more dependent on the droplet height than width, and the maximum cavity diameter is independent of the droplet height. In general, we observe that more oblate droplets result in decreasing cavity depths for a fixed liquid volume. This is because an increase in horizontal droplet diameter results in a reduced impact energy flux and therefore reduced cavity depth.

This paper proposes a measurement technique for an integrated complex filter. The proposed method is based on two measurement methods with integrated circuitry for calibration. It is accomplished by applying square waves to an FUT (Filter Under Test) instead of sinusoidal waves or by superposing transfer characteristics obtained by applying a single sinusoidal wave to an FUT. In both of the above methods, the output signal connected to the external measurement equipment via a 50 Ω coaxial cable and so on. In this case, the output signal of the FUT should be amplified by internal or external amplifiers, which degrades the response. However, it is cancelled out by the proposed calibration circuitry with some analog switches. In addition to the above, for the RC polyphase filter, the source resistance and the load capacitance degrade the measurement results and their effect is discussed. The validity of the proposal is confirmed through computer simulation for a third-order RCPF whose passband is 8–40 MHz fabricated by Phenitec 0.6 µm CMOS process. It is shown that the measurement error is −1.10 dB for the square-wave method and −1.00 dB and −0.43 degrees for the superposition method at 40 MHz. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Since the first invention of triboelectric nanogenerators(TENGs)in 2012,many mechanical systems have been applied to operate TENGs,but mechanical contact losses such as friction and noise are still big obstacles for improving their output performance and ***,we report on a magnet-assembled cam-based TENG(MC-TENG),which has enhanced output power and sustainability by utilizing the non-contact repulsive force between the *** investigate the theoretical and experimental dynamic behaviors of MC-TENGs according to the effects of the contact modes,contact and separation times,and contact forces(i.e.,pushing and repulsive forces).We suggest an optimized arrangement of magnets for the highest output performance,in which the charging time of the capacitor was 2.59 times faster than in a mechanical cam-based TENG(C-TENG).Finally,we design and demonstrate a MC-TENG-based windmill system to effectively harvest low-speed wind energy,~4 m/s,which produces very low ***,it is expected that our frictionless MC-TENG system will provide a sustainable solution for effectively harvesting a broadband of wasted mechanical energies.
