Fault detection is a major issue in wind energy field, and data-driven methods required a large amount of IoT data, posing risks of data security and privacy. To address this issue, this paper proposed a blockchain-enhanced federated learning model, i.e., BEFL, for wind turbine fault detection, wherein traditional federated learning was improved by eliminating the reliance on a central server, ensuring better privacy protection and security, and verification mechanisms were included in blockchain to enhance defense against malicious attacks. Experimental results demonstrated the privacy-preserving advantages of the BEFL framework for fault detection data. Overall, the framework provided a secure, confidential, and reliable solution for the maintenance and operation of wind turbine systems. © 2023 IEEE.

The rapid adoption of digital technologies, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has driven the development of innovative virtual platforms. ChulaVerse, a metaverse platform developed by Chulalongkorn University, aims to foster sustainable community engagement through immersive solutions in education, healthcare, and commerce. This paper outlines the design and implementation of ChulaVerse, emphasizing its comprehensive digital ecosystem that allows users to participate in various activities within an interactive virtual environment. A user satisfaction survey was conducted with high school students to assess its effectiveness, revealing generally high levels of satisfaction, particularly in visual appeal and trial experiences. The survey also identified areas f or improvement, especially in meeting diverse user needs. While ChulaVerse successfully meets its primary objectives, further refinements a re necessary to enhance inclusion and functionality. These results will guide the ongoing development of the project, with a focus on refining its features to better align with user needs and preferences. ChulaVerse serves as a pioneering example in the emerging field of metaverse technologies, which have a potential in transforming educational and community engagement in universities. © 2024 IEEE.

Antenna-on-chip (AoC) is one of the promising solutions in the 6G era. However, it suffers from poor radiation due to the lossy Si substrate. Placing an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) under the AoC cannot only isolate the AoC from the lossy Si substrate but also provide in-phase reflection. Nonetheless, the ultra-thin stack-up of the mainstream semiconductor technology makes the realization of AMC challenging at the millimeter-wave spectrum. To make the AMC electrically thicker, this paper presents four kinds of thickness reduction techniques (TRT): slot, notch, metallic post, and embedded guiding structure. With TRTs, an ultra-thin AMC ( $15\ \mu \mathrm{m}$ thickness) is realized. With the proposed AMC, the AoC demonstrated a gain of 3.2 dB at 72 GHz. Compared to the standalone antenna, the AMC enhances the gain by 7 dB.

Depressive Disorders (DD) is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the world that may lead to suicide cases. To prevent the latter, ubiquitous early detection systems may be effective. Recent studies have since researched the development of such systems by exploiting several forms of data, including video, audio, Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA), and passive sensing data using sensors embedded in mobile devices. To summarize the trends, opportunities, and existing challenges in this field, this study reviewed 15 papers to answer four research questions. EMA was the most popular data to be used in this task, but other approaches, such as using video, audio, and typing behaviors, may be considered due to the subjectivity of EMA. These data were typically recorded using smartphones and analyzed using Machine Learning (ML). However, most of the developed systems had yet to be implemented. Overall, it was concluded that further studies may need to explore usages of more objective data in multimodal approaches as well as consider using Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) to deploy these systems to provide more effective and efficient diagnoses. Future studies must also take into account the existing challenges of the data and infrastructures, such as the weaknesses of several data types, limitations of mobile devices, as well as the challenges of diagnosis approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

A Hybrid Inference Engine to Predict Uncertain Sugar Content for Sugar Industry

The sugar industry is facing challenges in increasing productivity to meet consumer demand. One opportunity for productivity improvement lies in ensuring sugar content. This study proposes a hybrid model to predict sugar content by considering uncertainty factors. A hybrid model combining fuzzy subtractive clustering, and a fuzzy inference system is proposed to predict sugar content. The clustering results using silhouette and fuzzy subtractive clustering successfully identified 6 cluster centres from 2225 datasets collected in a sugar industry in East Java Province. The hybrid inference engine model is designed with fuzzy rules derived from the clustered data. Two inference models are developed: triangular and Gaussian fuzzy numbers. The testing results indicate that the hybrid model with triangular fuzzy numbers shows the smallest error with an R2 value of 0.95. This model is possible to applied in the sugar industry for decision makers in improving productivity with taking attention into uncertain factors influencing sugar content.

This paper proposes a measurement technique for an integrated complex filter. The proposed method is based on two measurement methods with integrated circuitry for calibration. It is accomplished by applying square waves to an FUT (Filter Under Test) instead of sinusoidal waves or by superposing transfer characteristics obtained by applying a single sinusoidal wave to an FUT. In both of the above methods, the output signal connected to the external measurement equipment via a 50 Ω coaxial cable and so on. In this case, the output signal of the FUT should be amplified by internal or external amplifiers, which degrades the response. However, it is cancelled out by the proposed calibration circuitry with some analog switches. In addition to the above, for the RC polyphase filter, the source resistance and the load capacitance degrade the measurement results and their effect is discussed. The validity of the proposal is confirmed through computer simulation for a third-order RCPF whose passband is 8–40 MHz fabricated by Phenitec 0.6 µm CMOS process. It is shown that the measurement error is −1.10 dB for the square-wave method and −1.00 dB and −0.43 degrees for the superposition method at 40 MHz. © 2025 The Institute of electrical Engineers of Japan.

In the quest to minimize energy waste,the energy performance of buildings(EPB)has been a focus because building appliances,such as heating,ventilation,and air conditioning,consume the highest ***,effective design and planning for estimating heating load(HL)and cooling load(CL)for energy saving have become *** this vein,efforts have been made to predict the HL and CL using a univariate ***,this approach necessitates two models for learning HL and CL,requiring more computational ***,the one-dimensional(1D)convolutional neural network(CNN)has gained popularity due to its nominal computa-tional complexity,high performance,and low-cost hardware *** this paper,we formulate the prediction as a multivariate regression problem in which the HL and CL are simultaneously predicted using the 1D *** the building shape characteristics,one kernel size is adopted to create the receptive fields of the 1D CNN to extract the feature maps,a dense layer to interpret the maps,and an output layer with two neurons to predict the two real-valued responses,HL and *** the 1D data are not affected by excessive parameters,the pooling layer is not applied in this ***,the use of pooling has been questioned by recent *** performance of the proposed model displays a comparative advantage over existing models in terms of the mean squared error(MSE).Thus,the proposed model is effective for EPB prediction because it reduces computational time and significantly lowers the MSE.

EEG-Based Motion Intention Detection for Robotic Rehabilitation: Evaluating Classification and Regression Algorithms

Rehabilitation robots have shown significant efficacy in restoring lost motor functions in stroke survivors by providing compliant assistance during rehabilitation tasks. However, accurately understanding the desired motion intention (DMI) of the subjects is a significant challenge in providing effective robotic assistance. This work aims to determine the desired motion intention (DMI) for compliant robotic assistance through the analysis of upper limb motions using electroencephalography (EEG) signals. A group of fifteen individuals who were in good health carried out six distinct exercises. These movements were categorized using decision trees, random forest, and deep learning algorithms. Using deep learning, we achieved the highest accuracy rates, reaching 82% for movement-to-movement classification and 90% for movement-to-rest classification. The random forest method achieved superior performance compared to the other algorithms in regression tests, with an accuracy rate of 83%. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed EEG-based classification and regression techniques in detecting DMI for robotic help in *** study was conducted with a small sample size, exclusively involving healthy subjects, which is a critical factor to consider. This may limit the generalizability of the results, particularly when populations with motor impairments are taken into account. However, the study offers valuable insights into the potential of the EEG-based models for real-time rehabilitation applications despite this limitation. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Recently, cooking oil has been widely discussed on social media. Many people ask how to analyze this phenomenon, one of which is using a sentiment analysis application on Twitter that performs a scientific analysis of the tweets of this media user. This study aims to test the performance of the sentiment analysis algorithm utilizing the Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) algorithm from Twitter, which is used to classify the types of tweets processed in 2000 tweets. The study shows the results of the confusion matrix, accuracy, and precision. The study obtained a fairly good accuracy and precision performance of 84%, which occurred at a learning rate of 1e-6 and epoch 5. The author also discusses the factors that affect the performance of BERT, such as;pre-processing, data quantity, and data variation. © 2022 IEEE.
