P3DC:Reducing DRAM Cache Hit Latency by Hybrid Mappings

Die-stacked dynamic random access memory(DRAM)caches are increasingly advocated to bridge the performance gap between the on-chip cache and the main *** fully realize their potential,it is essential to improve DRAM cache hit rate and lower its cache hit *** order to take advantage of the high hit-rate of set-association and the low hit latency of direct-mapping at the same time,we propose a partial direct-mapped die-stacked DRAM cache called *** design is motivated by a key observation,i.e.,applying a unified mapping policy to different types of blocks cannot achieve a high cache hit rate and low hit latency *** address this problem,P3DC classifies data blocks into leading blocks and following blocks,and places them at static positions and dynamic positions,respectively,in a unified set-associative *** also propose a replacement policy to balance the miss penalty and the temporal locality of different *** addition,P3DC provides a policy to mitigate cache thrashing due to block type *** results demonstrate that P3DC can reduce the cache hit latency by 20.5%while achieving a similar cache hit rate compared with typical set-associative caches.P3DC improves the instructions per cycle(IPC)by up to 66%(12%on average)compared with the state-of-the-art direct-mapped cache—BEAR,and by up to 19%(6%on average)compared with the tag-data decoupled set-associative cache—DEC-A8.

Scalable Transactional Stream Processing on Multicore Processors

Transactional stream processing engines (TSPEs) are central to modern stream applications handling shared mutable states. However, their full potential, particularly in adaptive scheduling, remains largely unexplored. We present MorphStream, a TSPE designed to optimize parallelism and performance for transactional stream processing on multicores. Through a unique three-stage execution paradigm (i.e., planning, scheduling, and execution), MorphStream enables adaptive scheduling under varying workload characteristics. Building on this foundation, MorphStream is further enhanced with support for non-deterministic state access, employing a stateful task precedence graph to handle undefined read/write sets at runtime while guaranteeing transaction semantics. Additionally, MorphStream incorporates a generalized framework for managing window-based operations, enabling efficient tracking and maintenance of overlapping windows using multi-versioned state management. These extensions enhance the system’s ability to process dynamic and irregular workloads. Experimental results demonstrate up to 3.4 times higher throughput and 69.1% lower latency compared to state-of-the-art TSPEs, validating its scalability and adaptability in real-world streaming scenarios. © 1989-2012 IEEE.

In today's world, where technology is advancing rapidly, the extensive use of digital images on social media brings up concerns about their authenticity. One common form of deception is image forgery, especially copy-move forgery, where parts of an image are duplicated and inserted elsewhere within the same image. Traditional detection methods, like randomized search algorithms, often struggle with adaptability. This study presents a new approach that uses the Harmony Search with Clonal Selection Algorithm (HSCSA) to improve the detection of copy-move forgeries by fine -tuning the hyperparameters of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models. Our method involves preprocessing the CoMoFoD dataset, optimizing essential hyperparameters using HSCSA, and comparing the performance of the optimized model with standard CNN models. The results showed a notable improvement, with accuracy rising from 67.72% to 78.20%. © 2024 IEEE.

Math word problem (MWP) represents a critical research area within reading comprehension, where accurate comprehension of math problem text is crucial for generating math expressions. However, current approaches still grapple with unresolved challenges in grasping the sensitivity of math problem text and delineating distinct roles across various clause types, and enhancing numerical representation. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a Numerical Magnitude Aware Multi-Channel Hierarchical Encoding Network (NMA-MHEA) for math expression generation. Firstly, NMA-MHEA implements a multi-channel hierarchical context encoding module to learn context representations at three different channels: intra-clause channel, inter-clause channel, and context-question interaction channel. NMA-MHEA constructs hierarchical constituent-dependency graphs for different levels of sentences and employs a Hierarchical Graph Attention Neural Network (HGAT) to learn syntactic and semantic information within these graphs at the intra-clause and inter-clause channels. NMA-MHEA then refines context clauses using question information at the context-question interaction channel. Secondly, NMA-MHEA designs a number encoding module to enhance the relative magnitude information among numerical values and type information of numerical values. Experimental results on two public benchmark datasets demonstrate that NMA-MHEA outperforms other state-of-the-art models. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

The key-value separation is renowned for its significant mitigation of the write amplification inherent in traditional LSM trees. However, KV separation potentially increases performance overhead in the management of Value region, especially for garbage collection (GC) operation that is used to reduce the redundant space occupation. In response, many efforts have been made to optimize the GC mechanism for KV separation. However, our analysis indicates that such solution based on trade-offs between CPU and I/O overheads cannot simultaneously satisfy the three requirements of KV separated systems in terms of throughput, tail latency, and space usage. This limitation hinders their real-world application. In this paper, we introduce AegonKV, a "three-birds-one-stone" solution that comprehensively enhances the throughput, tail latency, and space usage of KV separated systems. AegonKV first proposes a SmartSSD-based GC offloading mechanism to enable asynchronous GC operations without competing with LSM read/write for bandwidth or CPU. AegonKV leverages offload-friendly data structures and hardware/software execution logic to address the challenges of GC offloading. Experiments demonstrate that AegonKV achieves the largest throughput improvement of 1.28-3.3 times, a significant reduction of 37%-66% in tail latency, and 15%-85% in space overhead compared to existing KV separated systems. © 2025 FAST. SEED-VII: A Multimodal dataset of Six Basic Emotions with Continuous Labels for Emotion Recognition

Recognizing emotions from physiological signals is a topic that has garnered widespread interest, and research continues to develop novel techniques for perceiving emotions. However, the emergence of deep learning has highlighted the need for comprehensive and high-quality emotional datasets that enable the accurate decoding of human emotions. To systematically explore human emotions, we develop a multimodal dataset consisting of six basic (happiness, sadness, fear, disgust, surprise, and anger) emotions and the neutral emotion, named SEED-VII. This multimodal dataset includes electroencephalography (EEG) and eye movement signals. The seven emotions in SEED-VII are elicited by 80 different videos and fully investigated with continuous labels that indicate the intensity levels of the corresponding emotions. Additionally, we propose a novel Multimodal Adaptive Emotion Transformer (MAET), that can flexibly process both unimodal and multimodal inputs. Adversarial training is utilized in the MAET to mitigate subject discrepancies, which enhances domain generalization. Our extensive experiments, encompassing both subject-dependent and cross-subject conditions, demonstrate the superior performance of the MAET in terms of handling various inputs. Continuous labels are used to filter the data with high emotional intensity, and this strategy is proven to be effective for attaining improved emotion recognition performance. Furthermore, complementary properties between the EEG signals and eye movements and stable neural patterns of the seven emotions are observed. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Speech recognition is becoming prevalent in daily life. However, due to the similar semantic context of the entities and the overlap of Chinese pronunciation, the pronoun homophone, especially "他/她/它 (he/she/it)", (their pronunciation is "Tā") is usually recognized incorrectly. It poses a challenge to automatically correct them during the post-processing of Chinese speech recognition. In this paper, we propose three models to address the common confusion issues in this domain, tailored to various application scenarios. We implement the language model, the LSTM model with semantic features, and the rule-based assisted Ngram model, enabling our models to adapt to a wide range of requirements, from high-precision to low-resource offline devices. The extensive experiments show that our models achieve the highest recognition rate for "Tā" correction with improvements from 70% in the popular voice input methods up to 90%. Further ablation analysis underscores the effectiveness of our models in enhancing recognition accuracy. Therefore, our models improve the overall experience of Chinese speech recognition of "Tā" and reduce the burden of manual transcription corrections. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.
