Supervisory Control of Discrete Event systems Modeled With Labeled Petri Nets for Diagnosability Enforcement

This paper proposes an active fault diagnosis method to enforce the diagnosability of discrete event systems using labeled Petri nets by constructing a diagnostic supervisor. For a non-diagnosable net model, its diagnosability is viewed as a control specification and addressed by using supervisory control techniques. First, an event-based monitor and a Petri net structure, referred to as data isolation arcs, are introduced to apply control specifications for labeled Petri nets. Then, a diagnostic supervisor reachability graph is generated to estimate the current state of the diagnoser. By analyzing the diagnostic supervisor reachability graph, an integer linear programming model is formulated to design a diagnostic supervisor, which can prevent the system from entering into any indeterminate cycle only by observing the occurrence of events. Finally, by the obtained diagnostic supervisor, the resulting net model is shown to be diagnosable. Some examples are presented to demonstrate the proposed method. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Natural language processing is a rapidly evolving technology in an era of quick technological growth. Conventional rule-based methods are insufficient to meet the demands of today's complex challenges. One of the significant tasks in natural language processing is recognizing textual entailment. Recognizing textual entailment is vital in natural language processing as it enables systems to understand the relationship between texts, which is crucial for applications like text summarization, sentiment analysis, information verification, question answering, text classification, and machine translation. One challenge is reducing the size of the input vectors while maintaining good prediction results, F1 scores. To overcome this challenge, this research presents the novel encoding technique by reducing the encoding size for the sentences involving compositional knowledge dataset. This dataset is sentence pairs in English to classify textual entailments into three categories: entailment, neutral, and contradiction. This research proposes the KIRINLog technique, which consists of six main methods: preprocessing, removing the same word, max-length padding and truncation for sentence alignment, adding a flag value, word embedding by Word2Vec, and dimensionality re-duction with principal component analysis to reduce the size of input vector. All of six main processes are proposed to create feature vectors for recognizing textual entailment (the sentences involving compositional knowledge dataset). This study used an attention-based bidirectional LSTM as a classification model. This model combines bidirectional LSTM with an attention to make analyzing sequences in both forward and backward directions and to help the model focus on important information in the sentence. This proposed technique achieved an accuracy of 92.4%, with precision at 88.8%, recall at 88.6%, and an F1-score of 88.6% on the 2014 sentences involving compositional knowledge dataset. © 2025 IEEE.

Illegal mining activities present significant environmental, economic, and safety challenges, particularly in remote and under-monitored regions. Traditional surveillance methods are often inefficient, labor-intensive, and unable to provide real-time insights. To address this issue, this study proposes a computer vision-based solution leveraging the state-of-the-art YOLOv11 Nano and Small models, fine-tuned for the detection of illegal mining activities. A specific dataset comprising aerial and ground-level images of mining sites was curated and annotated to train the models for identifying unauthorized excavation, equipment usage, and human presence in restricted zones. The proposed system integrates the hardware-software design of YOLOv11 on the PynqZ1 FPGA, offering a highperformance, low-latency, and energy-efficient solution suitable for real-time monitoring in resource-constrained environments. This hardware-accelerated approach combines FPGA's parallel processing capabilities with the lightweight deep learning models, enabling efficient deployment for automated illegal mining detection. By providing a scalable, real-time monitoring tool, this work contributes to the development of automated enforcement tools for the mining industry, ensuring better control and surveillance of mining activities. To validate the efficiency of deep learning deployment on edge devices, YOLOv11n was implemented on an FPGA, utilizing 70% of available LUTs, 50% of FFs, and 80% of DSPs, with 8.3 Mbits of on-chip memory. The design achieved 100.33 GOP/s throughput, 18 FPS at 55 ms latency, consuming 4.8 W, and delivering an energy efficiency of 20.90 GOP/s/W. © (2025), (science and information Organization). Efficient energy management is a cornerstone of advancing cognitive cities,where AI,IoT,and cloud computing seamlessly integrate to meet escalating global energy *** this context,the ability to forecast electricity consumption with precision is vital,particularly in residential settings where usage patterns are highly variable and *** study presents an innovative approach to energy consumption forecasting using a bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)*** a dataset containing over twomillionmultivariate,time-series observations collected froma single household over nearly four years,ourmodel addresses the limitations of traditional time-series forecasting methods,which often struggle with temporal dependencies and non-linear *** bidirectional LSTM architecture processes data in both forward and backward directions,capturing past and future contexts at each time step,whereas existing unidirectional LSTMs consider only a single temporal *** design,combined with dropout regularization,leads to a 20.6%reduction in RMSE and an 18.8%improvement in MAE over conventional unidirectional LSTMs,demonstrating a substantial enhancement in prediction accuracy and *** to existing models—including SVM,Random Forest,MLP,ANN,and CNN—the proposed model achieves the lowest MAE of 0.0831 and RMSE of 0.2213 during testing,significantly outperforming these *** results highlight the model’s superior ability to navigate the complexities of energy usage patterns,reinforcing its potential application in AI-driven IoT and cloud-enabled energy management systems for cognitive *** integrating advanced machine learning techniqueswith IoT and cloud infrastructure,this research contributes to the development of intelligent,sustainable urban environments.

Integrated high-linearity modulators are crucial for high dynamic-range microwave photonic （MWP）systems. Conventional linearization schemes usually involve the fine tuning of radio-frequency （RF） power distribution, which is rather inconvenient for practical applications and can hardly be implemented on the integrated photonics chip. In this paper, we propose an elegant scheme to linearize a silicon-based modulator in which the active tuning of RF power is eliminated. The device consists of two carrier-depletion-based Mach–Zehnder modulators （MZMs）, which are connected in series by a 1×2 thermal optical switch （OS）.The OS is used to adjust the ratio between the modulation depths of the two sub-MZMs. Under a proper ratio, the complementary third-order intermodulation distortion （IMD3） of the two sub-MZMs can effectively cancel each other out. The measured spurious-free dynamic ranges for IMD3 are 131, 127, 118, 110,and 109 d B·Hz6∕7at frequencies of 1, 10, 20, 30, and 40 GHz, respectively, which represent the highest linearities ever reached by the integrated modulator chips on all available material platforms.

A q-learning approach for enhanced routing in dynamic LEO satellite networks

As global communication demand rises, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems offer high-speed data transmission and extensive coverage options but face routing challenges due to dynamic topologies. This paper introduces a Q-Learning-based routing approach that converts dynamic networks into virtually static topologies at different snapshot intervals. Simulation results on a 66-satellite Starlink constellation demonstrate that Q-Learning outperforms Dijkstra's algorithm, achieving faster convergence and reduced latency. These findings highlight the potential for Q-Learning in enhancing efficient, cost-effective satellite communications. © 2025 The Authors

Epileptic seizures, a prevalent neurological condition, necessitate precise and prompt identification for optimal care. Nevertheless, the intricate characteristics of electroencephalography (EEG) signals, noise, and the want for real-time analysis require enhancement in the creation of dependable detection approaches. Despite advances in machine learning and deep learning, capturing the intricate spatial and temporal patterns in EEG data remains challenging. This study introduced a novel deep learning framework combining a convolutional neural network (CNN), bidirectional gated recurrent unit (BiGRU), and convolutional block attention module (CBAM). The CNN extracts spatial features, the BiGRU captures long-term temporal dependencies, and the CBAM emphasizes critical spatial and temporal regions, creating a hybrid architecture optimized for EEG pattern recognition. Evaluation of a public EEG dataset revealed superior performance compared to existing methods. The model achieved 99.00% accuracy in binary classification, 96.20% in three-class tasks, 92.00% in four-class scenarios, and 89.00% in five-class classification. High sensitivity (89.00–99.00%) and specificity (89.63–99.00%) across all tasks highlighted the model’s robust ability to identify diverse EEG patterns. This approach supports healthcare professionals in diagnosing epileptic seizures accurately and promptly, improving patient outcomes and quality of life. © 2025 American Institute of Mathematical sciences. Image segmentation is an important aspect of image processing and analysis. Medical imaging segmentation is critical for providing noninvasive information about human body structure that helps physicians analyze body anatomies efficiently. Until recently, various medical imaging segmentation approaches have been presented;however, these approaches are deficient in segmenting abdominal organs due to the significant similarity in their intensity levels. The purpose of this research is to propose a method to facilitate the segmentation of abdominal organs and improve the performance of the segmentation. The core functionality of this research is based on the extraction of rib bone from muscle tissues prior to the application of segmentation. This way, efficient segmentation of abdominal organs can be achieved by isolating the rib bone from the muscle tissues located between the rib bone. The proposed rib bone extraction mechanism is applied to four slices of the MICCAI2007 liver data set to isolate muscle tissues from liver tissues that have significant intensity similarity to liver tissues. The results indicate that the proposed extraction of rib bone efficiently isolated muscle tissues from linked liver tissues and improved the segmentation performance. © (2025), (science and information Organization). Social media networks play a major role in expressing people's feelings, reviews, and thoughts. One of the popular linguistic patterns to express or criticize one's ideas with ridicule is sarcasm, where they have unintended and intended meanings in written text. The sarcastic text is used to reverse the polarity of the sentiment. As a result, sarcasm detection in the text positively affects the sentimental analysis (SA) tasks and improves accuracy. The sarcasm recognition of Arabic content is constrained even though Arabic is the most popular language for web content sharing, and yet still naive owing to various challenges, such as the insufficient data sources, the multiple dialects, and the morphological structure of the Arabic language. This study presents an Artificial Intelligence Driven Sarcasm Detection using Optimal Deep Learning (AIDSD-ODL) technique on Arabic tweets. In the AIDSD-ODL technique, a hyperparameter-tuned DL model is utilized to identify sarcastic or non-sarcastic Arabic tweets. At the initial stage, the AIDSD-ODL method undergoes data pre-processing to convert the input tweets into a compatible format. In the next phase, the Glove word embedding process is used in the AIDSD-ODL technique. The self-attention bidirectional long short-term memory (SA-BiLSTM) model is utilized for sarcasm detection. The Al-Biruni Earth Radius (BER) model is implemented for the hyperparameter selection process to enhance the performance of the SA-BiLSTM network. The experimental results of the AIDSD-ODL method are examined under the Arabic tweets dataset. The comparison study of the AIDSD-ODL method portrayed a superior accuracy value of 94.20 % over existing models. © 2025 The Authors
