The prediction of high-risk symptom for colorectal cancer using a new hybrid of fuzzy statistical machine learning approach

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a type of cancer that develops in the human colon and rectum. The body’s cells proliferating out of control, which is the cause of colorectal cancer, results in these symptoms. Nevertheless, there is still disagreement on the precise signs of a high-risk CRC. The linear regression model struggles with erroneous and ambiguous data. Because the idea of fuzzy set theory can deal with data that does not refer to a precise point value, fuzzy machine learning, a new hybrid linear fuzzy regression with symmetric parameter clustering with a support vector machine model (FLRWSPCSVM), is used in this study to predict the high-risk symptoms causing the development of colorectal cancer in Malaysia (uncertainty data). After analysing secondary data from 180 colorectal cancer patients who underwent treatment in a general hospital, 25 separate symptoms with diverse combinations of variable types were considered in the analysis. Together with the model’s parameters, errors, and justifications, two statistical measurement errors were also included. The least values of mean square error (MSE) are 100.605 and root mean square error (RMSE) is 10.030 for FLRWSPCSVM, which were determined to be ovarian and a history of cancer symptoms to be the high-risk symptom for developing colorectal cancer. To monitor and control the high-risk symptoms that can affect colon cancer and lower patient mortality, the hospitality industry could also benefit from this study.

Mushrooms are fungi. The edible mushrooms include nutritional content and health benefits. However, some mushroom species is toxic and contains poisonous substances that could cause illness and lead to death. Mushroom poisoning accounts for approximately 70% of natural poisoning and often causes death. However, there are only 30-50 poisonous species among the thousands of species found on earth, and of these, no more than 10 are fatally poisonous [1]. The main reason of eating poisonous mushrooms is the lack of knowledge and skill to classify the edible and poisonous mushrooms. Besides, the physical characteristics of mushrooms are similar. Therefore, this work focuses on the classification of 45 types of mushrooms. This work aims to reduce the number of illness persons whom are risk of exposure to toxic mushrooms. This work proposes a new model of classifying 45 types of mushrooms including edible and poisonous mushrooms by using a technique of Convolution Neural Networks. The proposed model was tested on both types of mushroom. It was trained to construct the CNN models and used the trained models to classify all types of mushroom. The proposed model gives the results of 0.78, 0.73 and 0.74 of precision, recall and F1 score, respectively. It concluded that the proposed model can classify types of mushroom image with efficiently and effectively. © 2019 ACM.

Embodied navigation in immersive abstract data visualization: Is overview+detail or zooming better for 3D scatterplots?

data has no natural scale and so interactive data visualizations must provide techniques to allow the user to choose their viewpoint and scale. Such techniques are well established in desktop visualization tools. The two most common techniques are zoom+pan and overview+detail. However, how best to enable the analyst to navigate and view abstract data at different levels of scale in immersive environments has not previously been studied. We report the findings of the first systematic study of immersive navigation techniques for 3D scatterplots. We tested four conditions that represent our best attempt to adapt standard 2D navigation techniques to data visualization in an immersive environment while still providing standard immersive navigation techniques through physical movement and teleportation. We compared room-sized visualization versus a zooming interface, each with and without an overview. We find significant differences in participants’ response times and accuracy for a number of standard visual analysis tasks. Both zoom and overview provide benefits over standard locomotion support alone (i.e., physical movement and pointer teleportation). However, which variation is superior, depends on the task. We obtain a more nuanced understanding of the results by analyzing them in terms of a time-cost model for the different components of navigation: way-finding, travel, number of travel steps, and context switching. Learning through mobile application can be reliable and definite, which leads to more frequent practise. Nowadays, most people have been neglecting the importance of reading and prefer graphical representations to receive information. The objective of developing this application is to ease the students in learning and help to improve the syllabus of level 1. The aim of this mobile learning is to improve the understanding in Arabic studies. In this project, we used the ADDIE model, whichare analysing, design, development and evaluation. This model is chosen to be part of the project because this model is the appropriate model to run and develop the educational application. As a result, the development of the Arabic learning application received a positiverespond from the users after we tested on Beta Test. The application has receiveda positive feedback and 100% agreed that this application is useful among Arabic studentsin level 1. We also managed to get feedbacks and identify the weakness of the product. From the Alpha test, expert has encouraged with suggestions to improvise the application. Overall, this application has provided with some promising results.

Enhancing electrolysis performance: Nanoparticles and micro-arc oxidation in green hydrogen generation

Green hydrogen is vital for the global energy transition, offering a sustainable and emissions-free alternative to fossil fuels. This research aims to enhance the performance of alkaline electrolysis systems and reduce their cost by exploring two key strategies: improving aluminum electrodes through surface treatment and integrating nanomaterials into the process. To address material degradation and efficiency challenges, aluminum electrodes were treated using micro-arc oxidation (MAO), which created a corrosion-resistant ceramic-like surface layer. This treatment increased electrode durability and enhanced interaction with the electrolyte, significantly boosting hydrogen production. Additionally, incorporating nanomaterials such as copper oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles optimizes electrochemical activity, reduces energy requirements, and improves system performance. Experimental results confirmed the efficiency of these enhancements. MAO-treated electrodes improved hydrogen output by up to 30 % at lower potassium hydroxide (KOH) concentrations and maintained a 5 % boost even at higher concentrations. Including nanoparticles provided remarkable results: copper oxide increased hydrogen production by 107 %, while zinc oxide achieved an astounding 745 % improvement. These findings underscore the transformative potential of these techniques in advancing clean hydrogen production technologies.

Building artificial intelligence (AI) systems that adhere to ethical standards is a complex problem. Even though a multitude of guidelines for the design and development of such trustworthy AI systems exist, these guidelines focus on high-level and abstract requirements for AI systems, and it is often very difficult to assess if a specific system fulfills these requirements. The Z-Inspection® process provides a holistic and dynamic framework to evaluate the trustworthiness of specific AI systems at different stages of the AI lifecycle, including intended use, design, and development. It focuses, in particular, on the discussion and identification of ethical issues and tensions through the analysis of socio-technical scenarios and a requirement-based framework for ethical and trustworthy AI. This article is a methodological reflection on the Z-Inspection® process. We illustrate how high-level guidelines for ethical and trustworthy AI can be applied in practice and provide insights for both AI researchers and AI practitioners. We share the lessons learned from conducting a series of independent assessments to evaluate the trustworthiness of real-world AI systems, as well as key recommendations and practical suggestions on how to ensure a rigorous trustworthiness assessment throughout the lifecycle of an AI system. The results presented in this article are based on our assessments of AI systems in the healthcare sector and environmental monitoring, where we used the framework for trustworthy AI proposed in the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI by the European Commission’s High-Level Expert Group on AI. However, the assessment process and the lessons learned can be adapted to other domains and include additional frameworks.

Approximately one-third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted and the rate of food loss is continuously increasing. This circumstance has resulted in a significant increase in carbon footprint and environmental issues. Lack of awareness has been one of the reasons that caused food wastage issue. The main objectives of this research is 1) to develop a mobile application on food wastage; 2) to create awareness on food wastage issue by using ShareFood:CareHood mobile application; and 3) to conduct usability test on ShareFood:CareHood mobile application in terms of ease of use, user interface and functionality. This paper presents the development of ShareFood:CareHood mobile application, which has the purpose of creating awareness on food wastage issue among the users and at the same time gives the users a chance to play their in reducing food wastage by providing food sharing functions. The outcome of this study is provides optimistic results.

Trusted medical software devices, must comply with one of the healthcare regulations such as Food and Drug Administration (FDA), EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Since these regulations are enacted by law legislators and written in a legal text, these regulations are typically written with ambiguities. However, people have a different interpretation for the legal text for example, software developers faced challenges in identifying and understanding the regulatory requirements that are related to the software development process. Moreover, ambiguous in regulatory requirements play a big role in software compliance with regulatory particularly, when the requirements are legal text. In this paper, we intend to minimize the ambiguities in EU MDR requirements based on requirement engineering techniques in order to make MDR requirements clear and precise for software developers. In our previous work, we extracted the requirements of MDR that would affect the software development life cycle (SDLC) directly or indirectly. Herein, we will identify the ambiguity types in the extracted requirements of MDR. Moreover, this paper will present a method to minimize the ambiguities in MDR requirements based on requirement engineering techniques (user story and use case diagram). Finally, this work will be evaluated by the critical-to-quality tree measurement technique. © 2019 Association for computing Machinery. ACM

Humans’ and the world’s lifestyles have changed dramatically through time as a result of technological advancements. Communication technology has advanced swiftly in the contemporary age, making a significant contribution to human existence. Smartphones are one of the most useful technologies. Mobile apps arose as a result of the evolution of regular phones into smartphones. Mobile applications with various functions give varying levels of aid to human existence. This study aims to give self-medicating patients a guideline and correct content information of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. Subsequently, it is to develop a mobile application for the medication (E-MEDIC app). Furthermore, it is to ease and save users’ time searching for medicines content. The third objective is to evaluate the user’s acceptance of the medication mobile application (E-MEDIC app). The qualitative methodologies utilised for the E-MEDIC mobile app included locating two specialists to conduct an Alpha Test to obtain their thoughts and selecting twelve respondents with relevant experience to serve as testers. The experiment includes several areas of the application’s functioning, usability, and interface design. All respondents and experts agreed that the E-MEDIC mobile app’s functionality, usefulness, and usability are excellent. The E-MEDIC smartphone app, which is based on this initiative, can provide accurate information and content specifics on over-the-counter (OTC) medications to self-medicating patients. If properly implemented in pharmacies, OTC medications, and public health, the E-MEDIC smartphone app offers several benefits. The results from this study are promising.

Why does cultural diversity foster technology-enabled intergenerational collaboration?

Globalization and information technology enable people to join the movement of global citizenship and work without borders. However, different type of barriers existed that could affect collaboration in today's work environment, in which different generations are involved. Although researchers have identified several technical barriers to intergenerational collaboration (iGOAL), the influence of cultural diversity on iGOAL has rarely been studied. Therefore, using a quantitative study approach, this paper investigates the impact of differences in cultural background on perceived technical and operational barriers to iGOAL. Our study reveals six barriers to IGC that are perceived differently by culturally diverse people (CDP) and non-CDP. Furthermore, CDP can foster IGC because CDP consider the barriers to be of less of a reason to avoid working with different generations than do non-CDP. Copyright © 2020, The Authors.
