Model predictive control of DC microgrids: current sharing and voltage regulation

An MPC-based consensus algorithm is proposed for current sharing in Direct Current (DC) microgrids. The proposed controller also ensures that both the buck converter output voltages as well as the load voltages remain within an acceptable range. The MPC scheme is designed using the notion of so-called finite-step control Lyapunov functions. Moreover, a deadbeat stable estimator is developed for the current loads which are assumed to be unknown constants. In particular, the current loads are accurately estimated in one time step. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified via an illustrative example. © 2018

The vast majority of the software developers use the agile framework for project management. Agile approach provides more flexibility and adaption to the changes against classic software development approach. The key methodology of agile approach represents the scrum. The core of scrum management forms sprint, which represents a time shift activity and envelops all other events of scrum. The outcome of the sprint should be the increment in development of the project, which is possible to submit to the customers or the users. The paper maps the possibilities of visualization of the course of individual sprints at everyday meetings of the research team (stand up meetings), which have a decisive influence on the quality of communication of the research team and the overall success of the project. © 2019 VSB-Technical University of Ostrava. Li-ion batteries are widely used in EV applications and are imposed to several aging effects during their lifetime. Since battery health cannot be measured directly, information about its health can be obtained by iteratively re-estimating the parameters of the model describing its dynamical behavior. The optimal design of experiments is investigated in this paper. The proposed method applies families of input signals (PRBS current and constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) signals) to the batteries to estimate the key aging factors. Simulation experiments have been used to analyze the statistical properties of the estimators as a function of the design parameters of the input signal families. The results show that the CC-CV charging-discharging cycle has the possibility to gain the most information out of the battery model parameter estimation. © 2018

In this paper we propose a pipeline for brain mapping using a decentralized database with a blockchain architecture. We use a two-layer model for a distributed imaging data ledger capable of version control and authoring augmented data. Our platform is capable of direct volume rendering inside a browser window using WebGL. The data visualization pipeline allows for real-time multi-intensity transfer functions and global opacity of a given imaging recording. The platform is intended as a collaboration tool for multiple imaging laboratories and institutes and aims to help in organizing augmented data and multiple level-of-detail recordings used on a wide array of devices. We believe our platform will aid in brain mapping efforts for classification, measurement and visualization of cortical structures trough the aid of virtual reality and a scalable backend based on a standard blockchain technology.

Healthcare is a very important domain in our modern society. This domain is in a continuous development by including new technologies that allows new methods for monitoring and diagnosis the patients. Nowadays, the Internet of Things is a concept that has been included in the development of healthcare systems. This concept is from the IT &C field and allows the interactions in the virtual word of the real world through their connection to the Internet. In this paper, it is presented the architecture of an Internet of m-health Things (m-IoT) system that allows remotely diagnosis and monitoring patients using the Internet of Things concept. It is presented the architecture of a mobile tele-electrocardiograph that is integrated into a distributed monitoring system. This system can be further developed by integration of the devices that can monitor other healthcare parameters.

Mobile offloading is a platform that facilitates the distribution of computationally intensive tasks from mobile devices to the cloud or other devices in order to conserve energy and improve performance. The concept is practically based on the idea of exchanging relatively low communication energy for high computation power utilization. Efforts have been channeled towards energy conservation by clusters using Dynamic Power Management (DPM). This paper is a review for green energy sources for reducing energy and using energy consumption to manage sources by stating the latest studies of energy consumption and energy consumptions.

Optimization underpins many of the challenges that science and technology face on a daily basis. Recent years have witnessed a major shift from traditional optimization paradigms grounded on batch algorithms for medium-scale problems to challenging dynamic, time-varying, and even huge-size settings. This is driven by technological transformations that converted infrastructural and social platforms into complex and dynamic networked systems with even pervasive sensing and computing capabilities. The present paper reviews a broad class of state-of-the-art algorithms for time-varying optimization, with an eye to both algorithmic development and performance analysis. It offers a comprehensive overview of available tools and methods, and unveils open challenges in application domains of broad interest. The real-world examples presented include smart power systems, robotics, machine learning, and data analytics, highlighting domain-specific issues and solutions. One way of working out biometric images is to build skeletons. When constructing a high-quality skeleton, the image should be scanned at 500 dpi, and 256 brightness gradations should be considered. During developing the algorithm, it's necessary to consider the expense of random-Access memory and the processing time of the algorithm. Comparison of the Hilditch algorithm and wave oscillation for finger biometrics has been performed. Recommendations for application of the Hilditch algorithm for the application of fingerprint skeletonization are given, since its execution time is less. © 2019 IEEE.

Modal regression based structured low-rank matrix recovery for multi-view learning

Low-rank Multi-view Subspace Learning (LMvSL) has shown great potential in cross-view classification in recent years. Despite their empirical success, existing LMvSL based methods are incapable of well handling view discrepancy and discriminancy simultaneously, which thus leads to the performance degradation when there is a large discrepancy among multi-view data. To circumvent this drawback, motivated by the block-diagonal representation learning, we propose Structured Low-rank Matrix Recovery (SLMR), a unique method of effectively removing view discrepancy and improving discriminancy through the recovery of structured low-rank matrix. Furthermore, recent low-rank modeling provides a satisfactory solution to address data contaminated by predefined assumptions of noise distribution, such as Gaussian or Laplacian distribution. However, these models are not practical since complicated noise in practice may violate those assumptions and the distribution is generally unknown in advance. To alleviate such limitation, modal regression is elegantly incorporated into the framework of SLMR (term it MR-SLMR). Different from previous LMvSL based methods, our MR-SLMR can handle any zero-mode noise variable that contains a wide range of noise, such as Gaussian noise, random noise and outliers. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) framework and half-quadratic theory are used to efficiently optimize MR-SLMR. Experimental results on four public databases demonstrate the superiority of MR-SLMR and its robustness to complicated noise. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are increasingly proving to be flexible and cheap alternative monitoring systems in a variety of application. Their use to enhance the provision of electricity enables the implementation of smart grids, where energy flows are closely combined with the provision of other energy-related information. The limited battery lifetime of the sensor nodes remains a prominent research challenge and limiting factor in WSN deployment. This paper proposes a joint constrained optimal sink placement and energy-efficient routing with the aim of extending the WSN's lifetime. The proposed solution is a particle swarm optimization (PSO)-based algorithm that can be used for planning the deployment of WSNs in smart grids. The proposed algorithm involves a novel model of encoding the allowable sink locations into the PSO's particle-space. The results show that the proposed algorithm is able to place the sink within the constrained areas while also improving the WSN's lifetime.
