Visual inspection is one of the important quality control functions of production lines. In this area, many automatic visual inspection machines have been introduced and proved their effectiveness. Today, visual inspection is going to be applied to the small and vague color defects inspection. In these cases, the measured color signal values do not correspond to human sensitivity. So, it is very important to evaluate the human sensitivity of color defects. There are three components to describe the color. They are brightness, hue and saturation. These parameters influence the human sensitivity to detect color defects. In this research, to develop the visual inspection system of color defects, human sensitivity changes according to the different color parameters are evaluated and in the color defects inspection machine, color signals are normalized by the evaluated human sensitivities. Through this normalization, the color visual inspection machine has the same ability with human inspectors.

The factorization method, first developed by Tomasi and Kanade (1992), recovers both shape and motion from a sequence of images, by tracking a large number of feature points and using singular value decomposition (SVD). However, in this approach, the nonlinear perspective projection is linearized by approximating it using orthographic projection, weak perspective projection, and para-perspective projection, which limits the range of motions that the approach can be accommodated. In this paper, we present a new approach based on a higher-order approximation of perspective projection to recover 3D shape and motion from image sequences. The accuracy of this approximation is higher than orthographic projection, weak perspective projection and para-perspective projection, so it can be used in wider circumstances in the real world. Experimental results with synthesized and real data show that this approach is promising.

A Reed-Solomon coded type-1 hybrid ARQ scheme based on a selective-repeat (SR) ARQ with multicopy retransmission is proposed for mobile/personal satellite communication systems of a transmitter and a receiver both with finite buffer. The performance of the proposed scheme on fading channels is analyzed. The basic idea of the strategy is the use of two modes; the SR mode and the multicopy mode. In the latter mode, erroneous blocks stored in the /spl nu/N block transmitter buffer are alternatively retransmitted multiple times when /spl nu/ consecutive retransmissions in the SR mode are received in error, where N denotes round-trip-delay in blocks. Numerical and simulation results for /spl nu/=1 show that the proposed scheme presents better performance than the conventional SR+ST scheme 2 of the 2N block buffer by Miller and Lin (1981).

In this correspondence, we present the properties of soft morphological operations and the nem definitions of binary soft morphological operations. It is shown that soft morphological filtering an arbitrary signal is equivalent to decomposing the signal into binary signals, filtering each binary signal with a binary soft morphological filter, and then reversing the decomposition. This equivalence allows problems in the analysis and the implementation of soft morphological operations in real time by using only logic gates for binary signals instead of sorting the numbers. The architectures of logic-gate implementation of soft morphological operations are also presented. Furthermore, unlike standard morphological filters, the soft morphological closing and opening are in general not idempotent. We develop the conditions and properties for a new class of idempotent soft morphological filters.

This article proposed a new scheme for presenting and recognizing of printed character. The method employs the concept of negative painting i.e. uses surrounding pieces of information as feature elements instead of analyzing the target character directly. Curvature continuity is first parameterize as one of six symbolic consistencies (feature primitives). Then, surrounding pieces are represented as attributed-token state sequences (ATS-sequences) of symbolic consistencies. The advantage of the proposed ATS-sequences is that it converts characters into token-sequences without loosing their structural uniqueness wherein the classification can be done by a computational hierarchical classifier.

computer integrated manufacturing uses computer technology to integrate a manufacturing system through a man-machine interface that fills the gap between manual operation and machine processes. It is clear that a computervision-based man-machine interface makes a fully automated system possible. The basic challenge of a vision-based interface is how to extract information from digitized images and convert it to machine-friendly “knowledge”. To extract information, then, it often end up to the problem of shape decomposition. This paper proposes an new approach in decomposing compound shapes without prior knowledge of the scene. The proposed algorithm exploits the fact that planar shapes can be completely described by contour segments, and can be decomposed at their maximum concavity into simpler objects. To reduce spurious decomposition, the decomposed segments are merged into groups by analyzing and utilizing the merging hypotheses. The algorithm calculates the linking possibility by weighting the angular differentiation between two segments. The techniques are implemented and are applied to other partial shape matching problems for clustering purposes.

A form evaluation system for brush-written Chinese characters is *** knowledge used in the system is represented in the form of ruleswith the help of a data structure proposed in this paper. Reflecting the spe-cific hierarchical relations among radicals and strokes of Chinese characters,the proposed data structure is based upon a character model that can generatebrush-written Chinese characters on a computer. Through evaluation experi-ments using the developed system, it is shown that representation of calligraphicknowledge and form evaluation of Chinese characters can be smoothly realizedif the data structure is utilized.
