This article examines the parameters of speech recognition in audio recordings containing a variety of phrases uttered by different people with different accents and intonations. The aim of the study is to evaluate the recognition speed, the accuracy of audio-to-text conversion and resource consumption when using SpeechRecognition and Levenshtein libraries. During the analysis, the above libraries were used to record and recognize audio files, as well as to calculate the distance between two lines and determine the recognition accuracy. The findings of this study can be useful for improving speech recognition systems and creating more adaptive and efficient solutions for audio data processing. The results of comparing the accuracy of speech recognition models are recorded in JSON format, after which, using the matplotlib library, they are visualized as graphs, comparing the speed and accuracy of recognition. Visualization of data in this way contributes to their improvement and more effective integration into educational systems. In conclusion, the authors emphasize the prospects for further development of speech recognition technologies in different fields.

Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) applications encounter issues with data protection, continual adaptation, and domain-specific knowledge retention, especially in consumer-centric IoMT scenarios. We overcome these obstacles and facilitate effective knowledge retention and task adaptation in IoMT applications. This study attempts to create a unique privacy-preserving federated learning framework that combines a hierarchical learning structure with Continual Learning (CL). Despite the advancements in Federated Learning (FL), current models have trouble integrating changing datasets in real-time while protecting privacy, as well as catastrophic forgetting, which occurs when previously learned knowledge is lost when adjusting to new tasks. We present a hierarchical learning framework that makes use of three levels of models -Junior Model (JM), Consultant Model (CM), and Senior Consultant Model (SCM) -to overcome these drawbacks. Each level of the model aids in archived retention and domain-knowledge adaptation. To guarantee that the model maintains valuable information over time and adapts to new tasks with ease, our method blends domain adaptation strategies with ongoing learning approaches like knowledge distillation and elastic weight consolidation (EWC). We compare the suggested methodology with current state-of-the-art (SOTA) models on healthcare datasets for tasks like illness diagnosis and medical image categorization. According to our findings, the hierarchical continual learning model performs better than SOTA techniques in terms of accuracy, task adaptability, and privacy protection. In the healthcare industry, our study sets a new standard for privacy-preserving, continuously adaptable federated learning systems, allowing for real-time, scalable IoMT applications that can adapt dynamically to a variety of changing datasets. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Boost Decentralized Federated Learning in Vehicular Networks by Diversifying Data Sources

Recently, federated learning (FL) has received intensive research because of its ability in preserving data privacy for scattered clients to collaboratively train machine learning models. Commonly, a parameter server (PS) is deployed for aggregating model parameters contributed by different clients. Decentralized federated learning (DFL) is upgraded from FL which allows clients to aggregate model parameters with their neighbours directly. DFL is particularly feasible for vehicular networks as vehicles communicate with each other in a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) manner. However, due to the restrictions of vehicle routes and communication distances, it is hard for individual vehicles to sufficiently exchange models with others. Data sources contributing to models on individual vehicles may not diversified enough resulting in poor model accuracy. To address this problem, we propose the DFL-DDS (DFL with diversified Data Sources) algorithm to diversify data sources in DFL. Specifically, each vehicle maintains a state vector to record the contribution weight of each data source to its model. The Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence is adopted to measure the diversity of a state vector. To boost the convergence of DFL, a vehicle tunes the aggregation weight of each data source by minimizing the KL divergence of its state vector, and its effectiveness in diversifying data sources can be theoretically proved. Finally, the superiority of DFL-DDS is evaluated by extensive experiments (with MNIST and CIFAR-10 datasets) which demonstrate that DFL-DDS can accelerate the convergence of DFL and improve the model accuracy significantly compared with state-of-the-art baselines. Railway transport safety is directly connected with the condition of railway tracks and also the condition of railway wheels' surface. One of the main reasons for abnormal situations on railways are various defects such as irregularities of a railway track. Thus, we need to estimate the length of short and impulse irregularities. It is also important to carry out joint analysis of vibration acceleration signals recorded by accelerometers in order to study types and sizes of railway track irregularities. © 2024 IEEE.

FR-Net:A Light-weight FFT Residual Net For Gaze Estimation

Gaze estimation is a crucial task in computer vision, however, existing methods suffer from high computational costs, which limit their practical deployment in resource-limited environments. In this paper, we propose a novel lightweight model, FR-Net, for accurate gaze angle estimation while significantly reducing computational complexity. FR-Net utilizes the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to extract gaze-relevant features in frequency domains while reducing the number of parameters. Additionally, we introduce a shortcut component that focuses on the spatial domain to further improve the accuracy of our model. Our experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves substantially lower gaze error angles (3.86 on MPII and 4.51 on EYEDIAP) compared to state-of-the-art gaze estimation methods, while utilizing 17 times fewer parameters (0.67M) and only 12% of FLOPs (0.22B). Furthermore, our method outperforms existing lightweight methods in terms of accuracy and efficiency for the gaze estimation task. These results suggest that our proposed approach has significant potential applications in areas such as human-computer interaction and driver assistance systems. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Natural Language Processing for Analyzing Electronic Health Records and Clinical Notes in Cancer Research: A Review

Objective: This review aims to analyze the application of natural language processing (NLP) techniques in cancer research using electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical notes. This review addresses gaps in the existing literature by providing a broader perspective than previous studies focused on specific cancer types or applications. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted using the Scopus database, identifying 94 relevant studies published between 2019 and 2024. Data extraction included study characteristics, cancer types, NLP methodologies, dataset information, performance metrics, challenges, and future directions. Studies were categorized based on cancer types and NLP applications. Results: The results showed a growing trend in NLP applications for cancer research, with breast, lung, and colorectal cancers being the most studied. Information extraction and text classification emerged as predominant NLP tasks. A shift from rule-based to advanced machine learning techniques, particularly transformer-based models, was observed. The Dataset sizes used in existing studies varied widely. Key challenges included the limited generalizability of proposed solutions and the need for improved integration into clinical workflows. Conclusion: NLP techniques show significant potential in analyzing EHRs and clinical notes for cancer research. However, future work should focus on improving model generalizability, enhancing robustness in handling complex clinical language, and expanding applications to understudied cancer types. Integration of NLP tools into clinical practice and addressing ethical considerations remain crucial for utilizing the full potential of NLP in enhancing cancer diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes. © 2024, CC BY.

Requirement elicitation (RE) is a cognitively challenging and time-consuming task in software development due to the numerous challenges associated with it including conflicting requirements, unspoken, or assumed requirements, difficulty meeting with relevant stakeholders, stakeholder resistance to change, and not enough time set aside for meetings with all stakeholders. The prime causes of software implementation failure have been identified as inadequacies in the treatment of requirements. Without collecting the quality requirement, cannot achieve the goal of a quality software product. Through identifying the success factors affecting requirement elicitation, the paths to the quality requirements can be identified. The success factors identify through this research are experience, business analyst skills, stakeholder relationship, organizational elicitation process. This study aims to identify the factors affecting requirement elicitation based on the data collected from business analysts and similar positions in the software industry through a survey, interviews, and analyzed data to provide the initial validation for the identified factors. Through the analysis, we identified the main factors affecting successful requirement elicitation with a perfect significance value of less than 0.05 for all factors.

Application of AI to formal methods — an analysis of current trends

With artificial intelligence (AI) being well established within the daily lives of research communities, we turn our gaze toward an application area that appears intuitively unsuited for probabilistic decision-making: the area of formal methods (FM). FM aim to provide sound and understandable reasoning about problems in computer science, which seemingly collides with the black-box nature that inhibits many AI approaches. However, many researchers have crossed this gap and applied AI techniques to enhance FM approaches. As this dichotomy of FM and AI sparked our interest, we conducted a systematic mapping study to map the current landscape of research publications. In this study, we investigate the previous five years of applied AI to FM (2019–2023), as these correspond to periods of high activity. This investigation results in 189 entries, which we explore in more detail to find current trends, highlight research gaps, and give suggestions for future research. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. The current paper belongs to a class of research works that aim to find analytic and semi-analytic solutions to optimal power flow problems that involve storage systems. The main contribution of this work is a rigorous proof for the uniqueness of the ``shortest-path" optimal solution, which is a cornerstone in this class of algorithms, and relies upon a graphical design procedure presented in an earlier work. The proof builds upon five consequential lemmas, each provides a different characteristic of the optimal solution. These characteristics are then merged to prove the uniqueness of the optimal solution, which is given by the shortest path of the generated energy within bounds. The presented proof provides not only a sound theoretical foundation for this class of algorithms, but may also help develop additional analytic solutions for more complex optimal control problems involving storage systems. © 2024, The Authors.
