Credit cards became one of the most popular payment methods as technology advanced and e-commerce services expanded, resulting in an increase in the volume of banking transactions. Furthermore, the significant increase in the number of frauds necessitates high banking transaction costs. As a result, detecting fraudulent activities has become an intriguing topic, attracting a large number of researchers. We consider the use of class weight-tuning hyperparameters to control the weight of fraudulent and legitimate transactions in this study. We use Bayesian optimization, in particular, to optimize the hyperparameters while taking into account practical issues such as unbalanced data. We propose weight-tuning as a pre-process for unbalanced data, as well as using CatBoost and XGBoost to improve the performance of the LightGBM method by taking the voting mechanism into account. Finally, we use deep learning to fine-tune the hyperparameters, particularly our proposed weight-tuning one, in order to improve performance even further. We conducted some experiments to evaluate the proposed methods on real-world data. We use recall-precision metrics in addition to the common ROC-AUC to better cover unbalanced datasets. We use a 5-fold cross-validation method to test CatBoost, LightGBM, and XGBoost separately. Furthermore, the performance of the combined algorithms is evaluated using the majority voting ensemble learning method. According to the results, LightGBM and XGBoost achieve the best level criteria of ROC-AUC = 0.95, precision 0.79, recall 0.80, F1 score 0.79, and MCC 0.79. Also, by using deep learning and the Bayesian optimization method to tune the hyperparameters, we meet the following criteria: ROC-AUC = 0.94, precision = 0.80, recall = 0.82, F1 score = 0.81, and MCC = 0.81. Enhancing the performance and extending the life-cycle of older vehicles through retrofitting with improved systems presents an alluring opportunity. However, achieving accurate sensing of crucial parameters, such as engine revolutions per minute (RPM), poses challenges due to the need for mechanical manipulation and some designs, which may result in diminished accuracy in adverse settings. This study proposes using the primary ignition pulse signal to accurately determine engine speed without mechanical manipulation. We investigate the effectiveness of signal processing methods, including the RC filter, 2nd and 6th order Butterworth filter, to improve the accuracy of the readings. Our proposed method successfully collects data from conventional internal combustion engines, with simulated signal processing methods producing accurate detection of RPM and reduced fluctuations. The proposed method eliminated the noise, leading to accurate RPM measurements, while the maximum standard deviation observed for the RC filter implementation was 38.74. By accurately sensing key parameters, older vehicles can be retrofitted with improved systems, leading to enhanced performance and an extended lifecycle. The introduced methods can be practically implemented using custom electronics or embedded systems and can contribute to future research on automotive retrofitting. © 2023 IEEE.

The rapidly increasing popularity of micromobility devices, such as e-scooters and bicycles, in urban environments underscores the critical need for advanced trajectory prediction models to enhance road safety and facilitate seamless integration into intelligent transportation systems. This study introduces a novel approach to predicting the movements of bicyclists and e-scooter riders by leveraging a unique dataset that combines bird's-eye and egocentric views, collected from diverse urban settings across the United States. Employing state-of-the-art deep learning techniques, our model significantly outperforms traditional linear and polynomial regression models in terms of Average Displacement Error (ADE) and Final Displacement Error (FDE), demonstrating superior accuracy in forecasting the trajectories of vulnerable road users. Furthermore, our approach incorporates cognitive annotations to predict crossing intentions, enriching the model's predictive capabilities. The findings highlight the potential of our method to contribute to the development of proactive safety measures and collision avoidance systems, ultimately fostering safer urban mobility landscapes for all road users. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to solving the security-constrained unit commitment with alternating current power flows (SCUC-ACPF) problem in contemporary power systems. We introduce algorithms that decompose the problem into subproblems suitable for specialized solvers, so that the large-scale mixed-integer nonlinear program-ming SCUC-ACPF problem can be solved. In case studies, we validate the efficiency and effectiveness of our algorithms on synthetic and industry-scale power system networks. © 2025 IEEE.

The emerging and foreseen advancements in 5G and Beyond 5G (B5G) networking infrastructures enhance both communications capabilities and the flexibility of executing computational tasks in a distributed manner, including those encountered in edge computing (EC). Both, 5G & B5G and EC environments present complexities and dynamicity in their multi-level and multimodal infrastructures. DDDAS-based design and adaptive and optimized management of the respective 5G, B5G, and EC infrastructures are needed, to tackle the stochasticity inherent in these complex and dynamic systems, and to provide quality solutions for respective requirements. In fact, both emerging communication and computational technologies and infrastructure systems can benefit from their symbiotic relationship in optimizing their corresponding adaptive and optimized management. EC enabled by 5G (and future B5G) allows efficient distributed execution of computational tasks. DDDAS-based methods can support the adaptivity in bandwidth and energy efficiencies in 5G and B5G communications. On the other hand, EC has become a very attractive feature for critical infrastructure such as energy grids as it allows for secure and efficient real-time data processing. In order to fully exploit the advantages of EC, the communication network should be able to tackle the changing requirements related to the task management within edge servers. Thus, leveraging the DDDAS paradigm, we jointly optimize the scheduling and offloading of computational tasks in an EC-enabled microgrid considering both physical constraints of microgrid and network requirements. The results showcase the superiority of the proposed DDDAS-based approaches in terms of network utilization and operational efficiencies achieved, with microgrids as case example. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This paper presents a preprocessing method to solve the security-constrained unit commitment with AC power flows (SCUC-ACPF), which is a large scale mixed-integer non-convex, nonlinear optimization problem. We introduce clustering algorithms and local search to reduce problem complexity, and obtain local optimal solutions within limited solving time and computational capacity. The clustering algorithms group buses into manageable clusters centered around core buses, creating smaller sub-grids for efficient optimization. The local search algorithms iteratively explore and improve solution quality. Our method ensures balanced clusters that respect physical and operational constraints, significantly enhancing optimization efficiency and contributing to more effective grid management and operation. © 2025 IEEE.

Banking produces extensive and diverse data, so a clustering process is needed to understand customer behavior patterns and transactions more effectively. This clustering has been widely utilized with the K-Means algorithm due to its simplicity and efficiency. However, this algorithm is limited in determining the optimal cluster center, affecting the accuracy of the clustering results. This study proposes applying two metaheuristic algorithms, Invasive Weed Optimization (IWO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), as additional solutions combined with K-Means. These two algorithms were chosen because of their ability to find global solutions and convergence speed to handle large and complex banking data. The results show the superiority of IWOKM compared to PSOKM in terms of SSE and DBI. From the SSE value, IWOKM produces a lower value (3029.77), which indicates that this method is better at minimizing clustering errors and producing more accurate clustering than PSOKM (80007.09). From the DBI value, IWOKM also produces a better value (1.6684) than PSOKM (1.6782), which shows that the clusters produced by IWOKM are more compact and more separated. However, in terms of computation time, PSOKM is more efficient, with a faster average computation time. Although IWOKM produces better clustering quality, PSOKM offers advantages in terms of processing speed. This finding confirms that the selection of the IWO algorithm is more appropriate for use on datasets with characteristics such as the German Credit Dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

Currently, consumers have a variety of food restrictions such as food allergies, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, obesity, or being overweight, allergies, diabetes, or heart disease. The objective of this research was to develop an integer programming and decision support system of consumption for a consumer with dietary restrictions. An integer programming model was formulated to determine the optimal food set for nutrient requirement consumers and the problem will be solved by the solver function in Excel. The database of the program included food menu nutrients such as carbohydrates, protein, sugar, fibre, minerals, and vitamins as well as calories and price. The users can input their nutrient constraints such as an upper and lower limit on the amount of nutrients required, the amount of food consumed in certain food categories, undesirable food or food containing allergens, the type of menu, and the budget limitation. Next, we created a user interface in Excel as a decision support system for convenient use by consumers. The users can simply fill in their requirements, and the program will show the best answer corresponding to the data entered in a short time. The program will generate a menu that minimizes costs such that all constraints are satisfied in the output sheet. In the future, the program can be used in hospitals, day-care centres, or vending machines. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, Digital Twin (DT) has gained significant interestfrom academia and industry due to the advanced in information technology,communication systems, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing (CC),and industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The main concept of the DT isto provide a comprehensive tangible, and operational explanation of anyelement, asset, or system. However, it is an extremely dynamic taxonomydeveloping in complexity during the life cycle that produces a massive amountof engendered data and information. Likewise, with the development of AI,digital twins can be redefined and could be a crucial approach to aid theInternet of Things (IoT)-based DT applications for transferring the data andvalue onto the Internet with better decision-making. Therefore, this paperintroduces an efficient DT-based fault diagnosis model based on machinelearning (ML) tools. In this framework, the DT model of the machine isconstructed by creating the simulation model. In the proposed framework,the Genetic algorithm (GA) is used for the optimization task to improvethe classification accuracy. Furthermore, we evaluate the proposed faultdiagnosis framework using performance metrics such as precision, accuracy,F-measure, and recall. The proposed framework is comprehensively examinedusing the triplex pump fault diagnosis. The experimental results demonstratedthat the hybrid GA-ML method gives outstanding results compared to MLmethods like LogisticRegression (LR), Na飗e Bayes (NB), and SupportVectorMachine (SVM). The suggested framework achieves the highest accuracyof 95% for the employed hybrid GA-SVM. The proposed framework willeffectively help industrial operators make an appropriate decision concerningthe fault analysis for IIoT applications in the context of Industry 4.0.

Integrated high-linearity modulators are crucial for high dynamic-range microwave photonic （MWP）systems. Conventional linearization schemes usually involve the fine tuning of radio-frequency （RF） power distribution, which is rather inconvenient for practical applications and can hardly be implemented on the integrated photonics chip. In this paper, we propose an elegant scheme to linearize a silicon-based modulator in which the active tuning of RF power is eliminated. The device consists of two carrier-depletion-based Mach–Zehnder modulators （MZMs）, which are connected in series by a 1×2 thermal optical switch （OS）.The OS is used to adjust the ratio between the modulation depths of the two sub-MZMs. Under a proper ratio, the complementary third-order intermodulation distortion （IMD3） of the two sub-MZMs can effectively cancel each other out. The measured spurious-free dynamic ranges for IMD3 are 131, 127, 118, 110,and 109 d B·Hz6∕7at frequencies of 1, 10, 20, 30, and 40 GHz, respectively, which represent the highest linearities ever reached by the integrated modulator chips on all available material platforms.
