Parent Social Networks and Parent Responsibility: Implications for School Leadership

Before coming to Oklahoma State University she served in educational leadership in a variety of capacities including headmaster principal and director of curriculum and instruction. Research interests include school–community collaboration parent responsibility and school governance. Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies University of Oklahoma and a senior research scientist with the Oklahoma Center for Educational Policy. He studies the formation and effects of social–psychological conditions in school systems schools and communities.

Family–school partnerships are difficult to initiate and sustain in ways that actually promote student learning, especially in high-poverty communities. This quantitative study was designed to better understand how social forces shape parent responsibility in education. Based on social cognitive theory as the conceptual framework, the relationships between parent responsibility and two types of parent social networks were tested according to a partially latent structural equation model. Findings indicate limited contact among parents in schools and a positive, statistically significant relationship between both types of networks and parent responsibility.

A Model to Investigate the Influence of Channel, Perceived Web Quality, Brand Awareness, Perceived Quality on After-sales Service of the All-in-one Office Products

The authors of this study systematically investigated multiple relationships between brand awareness, channel, perceived web quality, and perceived quality toward after-sales service of the all-in-one office products’ company in Bangkok, Thailand. The sales of some single-function products decline after the opening of a multifunction product. Based on marketing theories, flow theory, and the technology acceptance model, independent variables such as brand, channel, perceived web quality, and perceived quality should relate to after-sales service of the company. However, the multiple regression statistic method revealed that only channel, perceived web quality, and perceived quality were positively related to after-sale service of the company.

The results of research into the use of fuzzy set based models and methods of multicriteria decision making for solving power engineering problems are presented. Two general classes of models related to multiobjective (X,M> models) and multiattribute (X,R> models) problems are considered. The analysisX,M> of models is based on the use of the Bellman-Zadeh approach to decision making in a fuzzy environment. Its application conforms to the principle of guaranteed result and provides constructive lines in obtaining harmonious solutions on the basis of analyzing associated maxmin problems. Several techniques based on fuzzy preference modeling are considered for the analysis of?X,R> models. A review of the authors’ results associated with the application of these models and methods for solving diverse types of problems of power system and subsystems planning and operation is presented. The recent results on the use ofX,M> andX,R> models and methods of their analysis for the allocation of reactive power sources in distribution systems and for the prioritization in maintenance planning in distribution systems, respectively, are considered.

Requirements Engineering involves different stakeholders and their different views of a system. Among these stakeholders, software designers are responsible for modeling the information gathered by domain experts. The communication between these specialists is not always easy, often leading to a semantic gap between what is desired and what is developed. This gap is characterized by inconsistencies between the requirements and the conceptual models produced. This paper tackles this issue by employing model-driven techniques to foster consistency in the conceptual modeling process, and by using a mind map model specification that facilitates communication between experts. Our approach defines a set of transformation rules to generate conceptual models from mind maps.

Using Social Network Analysis to Promote Schoolwide Instructional Innovation: A Case Study

Her research interests include early academic and behavioral intervention and prevention efforts social–emotional learning and positive behavior support. Psychometric methods educational statistics and research methods concentration at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research interests include test accommodations for English-language learners and students with disabilities test validity and fairness computer-based testing and applications of item response theory.

Social network analysis (SNA), a methodological approach that enables the mathematical examination of interprofessional relationships, can be an important tool for understanding and leveraging the social relationships that support and restrain instructional innovation and the quality and pace of school reform initiatives. In this article, we explicate the conceptual underpinnings of SNA and summarize how it has been used in a range of preK–12 educational evaluation contexts. A school-based case study is presented in which school leaders examined formal and advice-seeking networks among teachers, staff, and administrators and used the findings to reduce teacher isolationism, promote efficient communication, and increase system capacity for instructional innovation. Challenges associated with SNA for educational evaluation and school improvement are also discussed.

Nowadays, the design of waste treatment needs to be environmentally- friendly. Due to the fact that the concern of global warming is getting critical, the reuse of waste treatment can be beneficial in reducing carbon dioxide emission. Microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) is a device that can reduce the organic materials and produce the green energy, biohydrogen. Therefore, MEC provides an alternative path for waste degradation. In this study, MEC was analyzed with TRIZ that aims to eliminate contradiction matrix from the analysis in order to improve the MEC efficiency. The study approach is based on the following steps: classifying patents and paper, determining engineering parameters;solving the contradictory problems with 40 innovative principles, and finding the solutions. In this paper we propose a methodology to classify Power Quality for feeders, based on sags and by the use of KDD technique, establishing a quality level printed in labels. To support the methodology, it was applied to feeders on a substation located in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil, based on attributes such as sag length, duration and frequency (number of occurrences on a given period of time). In the search for feeders quality classification, on the Data Mining stage, the main stage on KDD process, three different techniques were used in a comparatively way for pattern recognition: Artificial Neural Networks, Support Vector Machines an Genetic Algorithms. Those techniques presented acceptable results in classification feeders with no possible classification using a simplified method based on maximum number of sags. Thus, by printing the label with information and Quality level, utilities companies can get better organized for mitigation procedures, by establishing clear targets.
