This article proposes StrawberryTalk, an Internet of Things (IoT) platform for image-based strawberry disease detection. StrawberryTalk reuses the wall-mounted monitoring cameras without extra hardware cost. The contributions of StrawberryTalk are the utilization of IoT for automatic photo shoot and the wind detection mechanism to eliminate the obscure photos due to the wind effects. Also, the data preprocessing and the infection detection models are manipulated as IoT devices to simplify the implementation of the multicascade artificial intelligence (AI) models. We derive the relationship between the camera zoom factor and the distance between the camera and the strawberries for optimal disease detection. Accuracy of detection may be affected by obscure photos. In terms of eliminating obscure photos due to wind effect, we analytically derive the relationship between the wind alert delay and the number of obscure photos that must be retaken. For the greenhouses in the Bao Mountain, we only need to retake one photo. Based on the experiments, the mean average precision (mAP) of StrawberryTalk (to detect exact spots in a leaf) can be up to 92.37%, which is better than the previous approaches. To detect if a pot has infected leaves, the accuracy of StrawberryTalk can be up to 97.92% at the zoom factor 30×. In commercial operation, it is important to detect all infected strawberry pots. StrawberryTalk is able to detect all infected pots (i.e., recall is 100%) with a camera of zoom factor of 12× . The accuracy is 96.88%. © 2014 IEEE.

Lung cancer remains a significant global public health concern, being the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Despite recent medical advancements, the disease still has a high mortality rate, making early detection and treatment critical for improving patient outcomes. Accurate prediction of nodule growth is key to early lung cancer treatment, but current assessments offer unclear indications of future growth, leading physicians to recommend costly and anxiety-provoking follow-up appointments every 3 to 12 months. To address this need, this study develops an ensemble deep learning approach that combines demographic data with existing CT images to predict whether lung nodules will grow, potentially reducing unnecessary examinations and easing the burden on patients. Our study, conducted on 862 patients with 1004 nodules, produced promising preliminary results with Accuracy, Sensitivity, Precision, F1 Score, and AUC of 0.66, 0.66, 0.67, 0.66, and 0.71, respectively. The proposed method provides a promising support system to empower patients to make informed decisions about seeking medical attention and helps physicians facilitate early treatment regimens, leading to improved patient outcomes and potentially saving lives. © 2023 ACM.

Crystal growth of Rb2CdI4 was performed by Czochralski method. Transparent colourless crystals with monoclinic structure were obtained. Temperature dependence of the dielectric constant along the b-axis was measured with variation of frequency. The thermal expansions x i (i = a, b, c and a′;a′ = a + c) along the four independent axes were measured both by clip-type strain-gauge dilatometer and X-ray diffraction methods. These results show distinct anomalies associated with the ferroelectric transition at TC= 210 K. Copyright © 2010 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Entanglement and Purification Transitions in Non-Hermitian Quantum Mechanics

A quantum system subject to continuous measurement and postselection evolves according to a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. We show that, as one increases the strength of postselection, this non-Hermitian Hamiltonian can undergo a spectral phase transition. On one side of this phase transition (for weak postselection), an initially mixed density matrix remains mixed at all times, and an initially unentangled state develops volume-law entanglement; on the other side, an arbitrary initial state approaches a unique pure state with low entanglement. We identify this transition with an exceptional point in the spectrum of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, at which PT symmetry is spontaneously broken. We characterize the transition as well as the nontrivial steady state that emerges at late times in the mixed phase using exact diagonalization and an approximate, analytically tractable mean-field theory; these methods yield consistent conclusions.

In Lifelong Learning (LL), agents continually learn as they encounter new conditions and tasks. Most current LL is limited to a single agent that learns tasks sequentially. Dedicated LL machinery is then deployed to mitigate the forgetting of old tasks as new tasks are learned. This is inherently slow. We propose a new Shared Knowledge Lifelong Learning (SKILL) challenge, which deploys a decentralized population of LL agents that each sequentially learn different tasks, with all agents operating independently and in parallel. After learning their respective tasks, agents share and consolidate their knowledge over a decentralized communication network, so that, in the end, all agents can master all tasks. We present one solution to SKILL which uses Lightweight Lifelong Learning (LLL) agents, where the goal is to facilitate efficient sharing by minimizing the fraction of the agent that is specialized for any given task. Each LLL agent thus consists of a common task-agnostic immutable part, where most parameters are, and individual task-specific modules that contain fewer parameters but are adapted to each task. Agents share their task-specific modules, plus summary information ("task anchors") representing their tasks in the common task-agnostic latent space of all agents. Receiving agents register each received task-specific module using the corresponding anchor. Thus, every agent improves its ability to solve new tasks each time new task-specific modules and anchors are received. If all agents can communicate with all others, eventually all agents become identical and can solve all tasks. On a new, very challenging SKILL-102 dataset with 102 image classification tasks (5,033 classes in total, 2,041,225 training, 243,464 validation, and 243,464 test images), we achieve much higher (and SOTA) accuracy over 8 LL baselines, while also achieving near perfect parallelization. Signatures of electronic nematicity in (111) LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interfaces

The two-dimensional conducting gas (2DCG) that forms at the interface between LaAlO3 (LAO) and SrTiO3 (STO) has been widely studied due to the multitude of in situ tunable phenomena that exist at the interface. Recently it has been shown that nearly every property of the 2DEG that forms at the interface of (111) oriented LAO/STO is strongly anisotropic with respect to the in-plane crystal direction. This in-plane rotational symmetry breaking points to the existence of an electronic nematic phase at the interface that can be modified by an in situ electrostatic back-gate potential. Here we show that the onset temperature of the anisotropy in the longitudinal resistance is T≈22K, which does not match up with any known structural transition, and coincides with the onset of anisotropy in the Hall response of the system. Furthermore, below 22 K, charge transport is activated in nature with different activation energies along the two in-plane crystal directions. Such a response implies that the band edges along the two directions are different and provides further evidence of an electronic nematic state at the interface.

Pronounced activity is observed in both hemispheres of the motor cortex during preparation and execution of unimanual movements. The organizational principles of bi-hemispheric signals and the functions they serve throughout motor planning remain unclear. Using an instructed-delay reaching task in monkeys, we identified two components in population responses spanning PMd and M1. A "dedicated"component, which segregated activity at the level of individual units, emerged in PMd during preparation. It was most prominent following movement when M1 became strongly engaged, and principally involved the contralateral hemisphere. In contrast to recent reports, these dedicated signals solely accounted for divergence of arm-specific neural subspaces. The other "distributed"component mixed signals for each arm within units, and the subspace containing it did not discriminate between arms at any stage. The statistics of the population response suggest two functional aspects of the cortical network: One that spans both hemispheres for supporting preparatory and ongoing processes, and another that is predominantly housed in the contralateral hemisphere and specifies unilateral output. © 2021 Dixon et al. The decision to determine whether or not a journal to be published in Majalah Kedokteran Nusantara can be decided by using the Decision Support System with certain methods. One of methods used is fuzzy logic method and is applied to the Microsoft Visual Basic programming language. From the results of the research, the first step that must be done in determining a journal is published was to identify the problem and to determine how to evaluate the quality of the journal which is done by calculating the parameter values of the variables that have been determined by the editorial board. The parameters used in the calculation were title of articles, abstract, background, content, conclusions and bibliography. The conclusions obtained from the research is to building a decision support system to determine a journal published in Majalah Kedokteran Nusantara using fuzzy logic method was not so difficult to do, because it utilized Fis Sugeno Matlab application and by using fuzzy logic methods and utilizing fuzzyfication to get linguistic variables were very helpful in determining how a journal is published. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Air medical services can improve access to blood products at the point of injury. Studies have shown that early activation of mass transfusion protocols (MTPs) can improve the survival of trauma patients by up to 25%. There are several scoring systems to guide early activation, but the use of a single criterion has been elusive. Our study sought to determine if air medical administration of blood products was a risk factor for massive transfusion activation and utilization of prehospital vital signs for calculation of the shock index. In our retrospective study, we evaluated adult trauma patients transfused by helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) and as a control all patients in our institution receiving the MTP. Our study found HEMS blood transfusion was not a reliable trigger for MTP, although the sample size may have limited our findings. We found that HEMS care resulted in an overall reduction in the volume of transfusion and an improvement in hemodynamic parameters upon trauma center arrival. HEMS transfusion and a higher rate of tranexamic acid administration may have contributed to these findings. Of note, the assessment of blood consumption score and shock index were nonspecific in the study populations. © 2023 Air Medical Journal Associates

We report measurements of the superconducting properties of the two-dimensional (2D) gas that forms at the interface between LaAlO3 (LAO) and SrTiO3 (STO) in the (111) crystal orientation, a system that permits in situ tuning of carrier density and disorder by means of a back-gate voltage Vg. Like the (001) oriented LAO/STO interface, superconductivity at the (111) LAO/STO interface can be tuned by Vg. The 2D superconductivity in these (111) LAO/STO samples shows an in-plane anisotropy, being different along different interface crystal directions, and “remembers” the disorder landscape at which they are cooled through the superconducting transition. The low energy scale and other characteristics of this memory effect distinguish it from charge-trapping effects previously observed in (001) interface samples.
