In this paper,we explore the use of the diffusion geometry framework for the fusion of geometric and photometric information in local and global shape *** construction is based on the definition of a diffusion process on the shape manifold embedded into a high-dimensional space where the embedding coordinates represent the photometric *** results show that such data fusion is useful in coping with different challenges of shape analysis where pure geometric and pure photometric methods fail.

In this paper we present the challenges during the simultaneous development of multiple mobile application versions with different sets of functionalities. Some of them are core, the other optional, and the third alternative. One of the indicated appropriate solutions is the approach of software product lines. In this paper we presents practical experiences during the product line implementation in the case of mobile applications for the Android operating system. It has at least six to eight different versions simultaneously available. Among others, these are freely available version, paid version, development, test and demonstration version. We also offer certain versions for the BlackBerry phones, some mobile application components share common functionalities with a portal server. 1 Copyright © by the paper's authors. Beta testing is the last stage of testing, and normally involves sending the product for beta testing and real-world exposure outside the company. Beta testing is often preceded by a round of testing called alpha testing. Beta testing can be considered a form of external user acceptance testing. Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed applications, as well as speed and performance issues that may still cause crashes or data loss. Beta testing is the first opportunity to get real feedback from target customers. The launch of a mobile application is especially crucial because it is the single biggest opportunity to get an application discovered in the mobile markets. In this article, the beta testing of mobile applications is presented. Our aim is to identify the optimal number of testers, who can reveal the majority of errors and mistakes during beta testing. This paper decribe our design and implementation of lowcost handmade bone phantom ultrasound and its possibilities to be used as educational media for image processing studies. In our research, a segmentation algorithm and 3D reconstruction method had been developed and tested using bone phantom. During test, bone phantom showed capabilities as an asssitive tool to explain, analyze, and test image processing algorithm, in this case segmentation algorithm and 3D reconstruction method. That capabilities, coupled with its low producing cost show the possibilities of using the bone phantom as an effective educational media for image processing studies. © 2013 IEEE.

An approach for exploring novelty in expression-based evolutionary art systems is presented. The framework is composed of a feature extractor, a classifier, an evolutionary engine and a supervisor. The evolutionary engine exploits shortcomings of the classifier, generating misclassified instances. These instances update the training set and the classifier is re-trained. This iterative process forces the evolutionary algorithm to explore new paths leading to the creation of novel imagery. The experiments presented and analyzed herein explore different feature selection methods and indicate the validity of the approach. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

The emergence of electricity markets and the opportunities consequently created have radically modified the operation planning activities of Power Systems. As direct result, there is the need for developing new methods to meet in an efficient way the requirements of generation companies, so to respond adequately to new challenges such as market competition. Agent-based models have been proposed in the literature as surrogate to equilibrium models when the problem is too complex to be addressed within a traditional equilibrium framework. Driven by this trend, this paper discusses and proposes a conceptual model following the agent paradigm that deals with the inherent complexity of electricity markets. The devised model proved to be robust enough to represent key features of our study domain and is ready to be actually developed in a computational tool to help generation companies to build their short-medium term operation decisions in a more sounded and robust way.

The TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese for Interative Multi-criteria Decision Making) method has recently been extended firstly to fuzzy and next to intuitionistic fuzzy environments with promising results. In this paper, we further consider the extension of TODIM to interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) environments. Two case studies are used to illustrate the approach to multi-criteria decision making. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the presented method.

Retrospective Vision of a Long Term Innovative Experience

The purpose of this paper is to look back on a long term informal innovative experience carried out during the last nine years until the present one, and try to discern, with a retrospective and a long time vision, whether it has been as beneficial as expected once it has concluded. This experience has taken place in the University College of engineering of Vitoria (Basque Country University, Spain) since the year 2.004, and it has been accomplished in the subject Company Networks of Technical engineering in Management Computing. After the analysis of a number of data collected along these years, we found that we have reached the initial objective of increasing the enrolment in the subject that has driven the project, and other unexpected ones that are more important from a long time point of view. Once that nine years have lapsed and the project is going to be finished, we conclude that it is a very positive experience and we recommend doing the same with the new degrees of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), as we plan.

The objective of this paper is to describe an ongoing work that we are carrying out in the frame of an educational innovation project supported by the Education Advisory Service of the Vicerectorship for Teaching Quality and Innovation (University of the Basque Country, Spain). The project is driven by means of the subject of Industrial informatics of the degree of Industrial Electronic engineering and Automatics (University College of engineering of Vitoria, Basque Country University, Spain). The design of the project is based on the development of a collaborative work distributed among all the students of the subject, grouped in several teams or working groups. The work developed by each of those groups is complementary, and when all these parts of work are finished, all of them will fit together. The conclusion reached until this moment through the continuous tracking of the students is that there is an increased and more active attendance. Besides, the results reached by the students in different evaluations have improved those reached by means of the traditional paradigm of learning.
