The temperature data of a post-tensioned continuous concrete box-girder bridge have been monitored for five years. Based on the measured data, the temperature in the different positions of the concrete box girder was systemically analyzed to extract the effective temperature. A method for predicting the extremum value of the effective temperature of concrete box girder was proposed by use of the extrema analysis and curve fitting based on the temperature in the different positions of the concrete box girder. The coefficient of determination of the effective temperature curve is 0.9619. Then the effective temperatures of the box girder in different months were developed. The relationship is quite useful in estimating the effective temperature difference in concrete box-girder.

the several kinds of pile-soil simplified analysis models were enumerated in the paper. Four analysis models were chose to build the elevated-pile- foundation FEM of a cable-stayed bridge. Then dynamic analysis and push-over analysis were done. The results of dynamic characteristics, pushover curves and form mechanism of the plastic hinges were compared by different simplified models. The truncated model was proposed in the paper because whether anti-push rigidity or plastic-hinge mechanism calculated by this model is most close to prototype. So the paper provided a simplified model for pile group foundation which could simplify calculation and guarantee the calculation precision. Research results can be used for conceptual design of bridges. © 2011 IEEE.

Deformation analysis of concrete thin-wall box girders for width and difference exposed to fire

To study the deformation problems of the wide and different thin-wall prestressed concrete box girders exposed to fire, the enthalpy conduction model was created. Thermal-mechanical coupled method was applied to the analysis of the deformation of the three-span wide and different thin-wall concrete box girders. Fire and load model of single span was studied. Mid-span transverse deflection of each span during prior periods and anaphase of extending-fire time was analyzed with the variation of the load ratio. The results indicate that the deflection is larger than that of other spans under the condition of fire and load of bias span, and the deflection ratio of the two-side spans is about 20~30;that the deflection of the two bias spans is downwards and the deflection of the mid-span is upward;that under the condition of fire and load of mid-span, the deflection of the three spans basically keep consistent, the deflection of the two-side spans is upward and the deflection of the two mid-span spans is downwards;that the cross-bridge effect of the side span is more obvious than that of the mid-span, and the side rib of the bias span has a upward phenomenon;and that with the increment of the load ratio, the trend of the deflection keeps unchanged, the increment amplitude of fire and load spans is larger while that of the other span is comparatively smaller. In actual engineering, load and fire of the bias span should be avoided because of the disadvantage for the deformation of the structure.

Adaptive control theory, structural parameter identification and error analysis are used to control the construction of PC cantilever casting bridge in the paper. The construction camber for main beam can be determined by BP artificial neural network. The deflection of main beam should be tested persistently. Strain sensors are previously located in beam to determine the concrete strain. The paper analyze some infection factors of strain test, such as concrete shrinkage, creep, temperature influence, and the strain correction method is proposed. So the stress and deflection of main beam in construction period can be controlled. Practical application approved that adaptive control theory combining with ANN could forecast appropriate camber. The factor of concrete shrinkage and creep could not be ignored on strain test of main beam. Measured value should be corrected to make us obtain objective stress status of structure. The correction method on measured strain which the paper proposed is feasible and accurate.

The prestressed concrete covering layer system, different with the general reinforced concrete cover, is a complex system which includes not only the non-uniform layer of concrete, but also the non-prestressed reinforcement, the metal corrugated pipe and the cement paste incrustation body in the pipe. Therefore, the study for carbonization corrosion of the prestressed concrete structures should consider effect of the stress and deactivated film position of reinforcing bar. Taking into consideration of the effect of stress level in concrete diffusion process, the carbonization reaction and diffusion process in the complete carbonated zone and the half-carbonated one under multi factor is analysed. It presents the durability limit state equation for prestressed concrete structures under carbonization condition, which can determine the depth of the covering layer system for prestressed concrete structures.

Thermo-mechanics coupling model for concrete box girder and time-dependent effect of shear lags

Aiming at the earlier temperature crack phenomenon for pier-on mass of concrete box girder during construction based on the actual engineering, the coupling model of hydration heat and shear lag was put forward, taking the temperature expansion and mini-work principle into consideration. The whole procedure of the shear lag with temperature was computed, the time-dependent effect curve was analyzed, and the time-dependent effect law was studied. The results indicate that negative shear lag effect from hydration heat is related to the peak of its temperature difference, that its negative results may be effectively controlled by the decrease of the temperature difference peak of the hydration heat, and that the occurring time of the tension stress of the hydration temperature heat effect for flange plate is approximate to the occurring time of the temperature difference peak, which is delayed forty hours compared with the occurring time of the temperature peak. Therefore, the calculation results approach to the test value indicate that the coupling model of the hydration heat and shear lag for concrete box girder and test theme is feasible, and that the occurring time of the tensile stress for flange plate is estimated by the occurring time of the temperature peak, in order to adopt effective theme to prevent crack.

Research on the seismic performance of cold-formed steel stud wall

In order to investigate the seismic behavior of cold-formed steel stud wall, 10 full scale specimens are tested under low-cycle lateral loading. Based on the tests, the main failure modes and the main failure processes of these walls are studied. The seismic performance of these walls such as hysteresis curves, skeleton curves, bearing capacity, ductility and energy dissipation is discussed. Then, a deteriorated quadralinear restoring force model of cold-formed steel stud wall is put forward based on hysteresis curves obtained from regressive analysis experiment. The restoring force model considers some influencing facts such as stiffness degradation, slipping and pinching effect etc. The main results show that: sheathings influence wall's shear resistance greatly. When the specimen is under vertical and horizontal load, stiffness, bearing capacity and displacement ductility factor of wall increase, but its energy coefficient decreases a little. With the increase of stud dimension and the decrease of stud space, the wall's stiffness and bearing capacity increase, but the wall's ductility factor and energy coefficient decrease.

Based on the nonlinear theory, through changing the design parameters, the stability of model curve rigid frame bridges with long-span during cantilever construction was analyzed;The results show that the central angle of the curve dominated the stability coefficient;The nonlinear stability coefficient of bridge is 35% of eigenvalue flexure. Data was collected for a large number of long-span rigid frame bridge which have been built. Through comparison and classifying, the results indicate that the types of piers and its design parameters (the central angle of curve, slenderness ratio of piers, and the main pier types, the number of tie-girder) are related to the stability coefficient. The simple and creditable formulas can be taken as reference in designs. © 2009 ASCE.
