Dehazed image Quality Assessment by Haze-Line Theory

images captured in bad weather suffer from low contrast and faint color. Recently, plenty of dehazing algorithms have been proposed to enhance visibility and restore color. However, there is a lack of evaluation metrics to assess the performance of these algorithms or rate them. In this paper, an indicator of contrast enhancement is proposed basing on the newly proposed haze-line theory. The theory assumes that colors of a haze-free image are well approximated by a few hundred distinct colors, which form tight clusters in RGB space. The presence of haze makes each color cluster forms a line, which is named haze-line. By using these haze-lines, we assess performance of dehazing algorithms designed to enhance the contrast by measuring the inter-cluster deviations between different colors of dehazed image. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed Color Contrast (CC) index correlates well with human judgments of image contrast taken in a subjective test on various scene of dehazed images and performs better than state-of-the-art metrics.

Millimeter-wave(MMW) radar sensing is one of the most promising technologies to provide safe navigation for autonomous vehicles due to its expected high-resolution imaging capability However, driverless cars have higher request for different environment and light conditions. Therefore, millimetre-wave imaging is of paramount importance for complex load scenario. In this paper, we have built models of pavement pits and bulges and analysed their with differences ways of antennas. A comparison of the imaging performance of experimental systems operating at a MMW radar and a Lidar is presented with the analysis of features for initial image interpretation Experimental images of the complex road surface are made by a 94GHz frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar technique with 3mm wavelength.

Automatic image annotation is an active topic and difficult task in computer vision domain, which has attracted more and more researchers' attention. Many approaches have been proposed to automatically annotate images. To improve the annotation quality, most of them have profound principlessophisticated modelsand high time complexities. How to efficiently annotate image is becoming one key issue in the field of computer vision. We propose a very efficient and effective approach called keyword vector classification approach, whose model is very simple. Experiments on Corel5K dataset show that the annotation performance of the our proposed approach is almost four times better than translation model and twice better than CMRM (in terms of precision, recall and F1) while the time cost of ours surprisingly decreases. In addition, to our knowledge, our proposed approach outperforms most of existing ones in terms of N+. © 2011 ISSN 1881-803X.

In large-scale SDN network, a single centralized controller can not meet the demand, and multiple controllers are needed to deal with the problem, which leads to the problem of multi control balanced deployment. In this paper, the topology of SDN switches and links is known. The main research contents are as follows: the mathematical model of SDN multi controller deployment is established, and the appropriate network topology is selected and the multi controller deployment problem is solved. In the research, the number of controllers needed in the network and the switches managed by each controller is determined by the algorithm results, and the mapping relationship between controllers and switches is established. By analyzing the deployment results of the same network topology under different algorithms, the influence of different clustering algorithms on the experimental results is obtained. At the same time, the better deployment experiment results are simulated.

Purpose: We proposed a new dictionary learning algorithm (AK-SVD) based on K-SVD. AK-SVD can denoise the CBCT image, and did not need the noise information as prior knowledge. Methods: The AK-SVD had two steps: signal sparse representation, and then dictionary optimization. The CBCT image was sparse, and there were limited big coefficients. The other coefficients were zero or near zero. In the sparse representation step of traditional K-SVD, the noise variance was used as a threshold to select the big representation coefficients. This increased the complexity of the algorithm. The denoising result also was affected by the accuracy of the noise variance estimation, especially in non-Gaussian noise. In AK-SVD we used the average of the existing big coefficients as a threshold. The new found coefficient was compared with the threshold. If it was bigger than this threshold, it will be determined as the big coefficient, and be added to the set of existing big coefficients. The finding process continued. If it was smaller than this threshold, the finding process was *** threshold was not related to the noise variance, and based on this method we improved the traditional K-SVD. Results: In the synthetic experiments about designing dictionary from synthetic signals, the correct rate of dictionary learning by the AK-SVD was similar with the ideal results of the K-SVD where the noise variance was known. However, the AK-SVD algorithm did not need to evaluate the noise variance, so it had lower computational complexity and wider adaptability. In the denoising experiment about the CBCT image corrupted by the non-Gaussian noise, AK-SVD has an advantage in terms of texture. Conclusion: The AK-SVD can work well with the noise variance unknown, and it had lower computational complexity and wider adaptability than K-SVD. This work reviews the results of the NTIRE 2023 Challenge on image Shadow Removal. The described set of solutions were proposed for a novel dataset, which captures a wide range of object-light interactions. It consists of 1200 roughly pixel aligned pairs of real shadow free and shadow affected images, captured in a controlled environment. The data was captured in a white-box setup, using professional equipment for lights and data acquisition sensors. The challenge had a number of 144 participants registered, out of which 19 teams were compared in the final ranking. The proposed solutions extend the work on shadow removal, improving over the performance level describing state-of-the-art methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Advances in neuroscience have suggested that addiction is not only an ongoing dynamic transaction between the person, their behavior, and the environment, but a disturbance of neurotransmitters in neurons involved in reward, memory, and cognitive control. Although the neural mechanism of addiction is complex and heterogeneous, previous addiction recovery and treatment studies have proven that addiction is amenable to treatment and recovery. At present, addiction treatment faces great challenges as well as many opportunities. The field of biomedical engineering is and will be at the forefront of these accelerating disciplines based on advances in imaging, genomics, systems medicine, molecular and cellular engineering, and other biomedical sciences. Thus, we propose several perspectives to accelerate the development of advanced and scientific approaches for addiction treatment: early prevention is better than cure and addiction treatment should focus on individualized regulation, whole-body interaction and the translation of effective animal models to human. © 2023 The Authors

An electroencephalogram (EEG) based brain-computer interface (BCI) speller allows a user to input text to a computer by thought. It is particularly useful to severely disabled individuals, e.g., amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients, who have no other effective means of communication with another person or a computer. Most studies so far focused on making EEG-based BCI spellers faster and more reliable;however, few have considered their security. This study, for the first time, shows that P300 and steady-state visual evoked potential BCI spellers are very vulnerable, i.e., they can be severely attacked by adversarial perturbations, which are too tiny to be noticed when added to EEG signals, but can mislead the spellers to spell anything the attacker wants. The consequence could range from merely user frustration to severe misdiagnosis in clinical applications. We hope our research can attract more attention to the security of EEG-based BCI spellers, and more broadly, EEG-based BCIs, which has received little attention before. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Many systems on our planet shift abruptly and irreversibly from the desired state to an undesired state when forced across a "tipping point". Some examples are mass extinctions within ecosystems, cascading failures in infrastructure systems, and changes in human and animal social networks. The ability to avoid such regime shifts or to recover quickly from such a non-resilient state demonstrates a system's resilience;system resilience is a quality that enables a system to adjust its activities to retain its basic functionality when errors and failures occur. In the past 50 years, attention has been paid almost exclusively to low-dimensional systems;scholars have focused on the calibration of the resilience functions of such systems and the identification of indicators of early warning signals based on two to three connected components. In recent years, taking advantage of network theory and the availability of lavish real datasets, network scientists have begun to explore real-world complex networked multidimensional systems, as well as their resilience functions and early warning indicators. This report presents a comprehensive review of resilience functions and regime shifts in complex systems in domains such as ecology, biology, society, and infrastructure. The research approach includes empirical observations, experimental studies, mathematical modeling, and theoretical analysis.
