Reinforcement Learning is a branch of machine learning to learn control strategies that achieve a given objective through trial-And-error in the environment. Because this can be applicable even when the state transition function of the control object is unknown or it is difficult to create its model properly, this can reduce the designer's burden. Reinforcement learning repeats evaluating a policy and improving it based on that evaluation. An algorithm called value function approximation is used in this evaluation. Value function approximation is a general term for algorithms of approximating a function called value function, which maps an arbitrary state to how much reward can be obtained in the future when acting according to a policy from that state. Value function approximation should have high approximation accuracy and hyperparameter easy to tune. Although various value function approximation methods have been proposed so far, some of them does not have convergent guarantee and the others' hyperparameter tuning is difficult. The purpose of this paper is to propose a value function approximation method that have convergence guarantee even with nonlinear function approximator and whose hyperparameter tuning is easy and to verify its performance through numerical experiments. To this end, we focused on GTD2 method, which is one of the value function approximation methods that has convergence guarantee even with a nonlinear function approximator. GTD2 method has the drawback that its hyperparameter is difficult to tune appropriately so that the approximation does not diverge during learning. Therefore, we firstly clarified the cause of the divergence of GTD2 method. secondly, based on this cause, we proposed Normalized and Regularized GTD2 (NRGTD2) method, that incorporates a method for suppressing divergence into GTD2 method. This study focuses on comparative shopping behavior in online shopping, investigating the impact of visualizing and understanding users' dynamically changing perspectives (perspective variation) on the purchasing process. Traditional recommendation systems primarily emphasize long-term preference estimation based on collaborative filtering, but they face challenges in accounting for users' momentary shifts in interest and perspective. In previous research, we defined users' fluctuating latent perspectives on specific attributes or features as "momentary perspectives"and developed a system to visualize these as conceptual structures. Using this system, we conducted a face-to-face shopping simulation experiment with 16 participants divided into 8 pairs in an experimental environment built with Javascript and Python. This experiment aimed to examine the effect of perspective visualization on communication between users. The results indicated that perspective visualization improved the balance of speaking time, yielding statistically significant results (p = 0.047). This research presents a novel approach to enhancing user experience in online shopping by leveraging short-term perspective variation. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

This paper proposes a measurement technique for an integrated complex filter. The proposed method is based on two measurement methods with integrated circuitry for calibration. It is accomplished by applying square waves to an FUT (Filter Under Test) instead of sinusoidal waves or by superposing transfer characteristics obtained by applying a single sinusoidal wave to an FUT. In both of the above methods, the output signal connected to the external measurement equipment via a 50 Ω coaxial cable and so on. In this case, the output signal of the FUT should be amplified by internal or external amplifiers, which degrades the response. However, it is cancelled out by the proposed calibration circuitry with some analog switches. In addition to the above, for the RC polyphase filter, the source resistance and the load capacitance degrade the measurement results and their effect is discussed. The validity of the proposal is confirmed through computer simulation for a third-order RCPF whose passband is 8–40 MHz fabricated by Phenitec 0.6 µm CMOs process. It is shown that the measurement error is −1.10 dB for the square-wave method and −1.00 dB and −0.43 degrees for the superposition method at 40 MHz. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Continuous blood pressure monitoring is crucial because of its dynamic nature, influenced by factors such as physical activity and mental stress. Although cuffless blood pressure estimation is a promising technique for continuous monitoring, its accuracy during drastic fluctuations, especially during exercise, remains insufficiently validated. In this study, we evaluated a simple Pulse Arrival Time based blood pressure estimation method and several improved methods for sharp fluctuations induced by exercise. sixteen subjects in the experiment, with data from 13 valid for analysis. The proposed method achieved an average correlation of 0.527 in systolic blood pressure, suggesting that cuffless blood pressure estimation could be applied to estimate continuous blood pressure variability during exercise. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to springer Nature switzerland AG 2025.

Eye-tracking studies focused on art galleries and museums within the realm of Instagram, especially in the Indonesian context, are notably scant. This investigation elucidates the user interaction and experience of the art gallery’s Instagram account, @galerinasional. Employing a quantitative approach, we implemented eye-tracking experiments using the well-known online eye-tracking software RealEye. The study participants were followers of the National Gallery of Indonesia’s (Galnas) Instagram profile, seven women and three men, in two age brackets: 18–24 years (n = 5) and 25–34 years (n = 5). The experimental protocol required participants to execute five tasks centered on locating exhibition details and artwork on the Galnas Instagram platform, with a duration of 100 s allocated to each task. The Participant Quality Grade (PQG), examination duration, optimal browser dimensionality, K-factor mean, gaze and fixation frequencies, and heat maps were determined for the participants. The key findings are as follows. (1) The participants’ PQG scores were predominantly between 4 and 6. (2) Investigative browsing typically exceeded the 100-s limit. (3) The consensus on the ideal browser dimensions hovered around 1,368.6 × 814.8 px. (4) The K-factor mean across participants tended toward K > 0. (5) The average gaze occurrence was 27 items per second for most participants. (6) A noticeable disparity in fixation counts was observed between the two age groups, with individuals aged 25–34 demonstrating prolonged engagement with Galnas’ content. (7) Heat maps accentuated a pronounced concentration on visual content, encompassing photographs, videos, and their associated captions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to springer Nature singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This paper describes the implementation and evaluation of an RC polyphase filter (RCPF) and circuitry for measuring its frequency characteristics. The integrated circuit is fabricated on a 0.6 µm CMOs process and its supply voltage is 5 V. The integrated circuit includes a filter under test (FUT), a four-phase square wave generator, several analog switches and differential amplifiers to amplify the high-impedance signals of the RCPF. This FUT is a third-order complex RCPF whose passband is 8 − 40 MHz. This paper describes the design of these circuits in detail. This integrated circuit can select two measurement methods by means of external control signals. The first method uses a four-phase square wave. The frequency characteristics are measured by using an on-chip four-phase square wave generator driven by an external clock generator and by a spectrum analyzer tuned to the fundamental frequency. The second method uses an external network analyzer. Furthermore, this integrated circuit is equipped with a calibration circuit to measure the frequency characteristics of the circuitry except FUT by passing through the input / output signals of the FUT. As a result, the frequency characteristics of the FUT itself can be accurately measured. The effectiveness is confirmed through evaluation of the fabricated integrated circuit. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

This paper presents the development of a smart charging station management system (CsMs) for electric vehicle charging stations (Css), consisting of Electric Vehicle supply Equipment (EVsE) units, that optimizes the charging of Electric Vehicles (EVs), by calculating charging schedules based on day-ahead (DA) electricity prices aiming at the minimization of energy costs. The basic CsMs operations that have been implemented are user authorization, transaction management, energy tracking, charger monitoring as well as charging optimization. The communication is based on the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) version 2.0.1.

LED-based photoacoustic imaging (PAI) with linear array ultrasound probes has gained attention due to its cost-effectiveness, safety, and potential for portable applications. However, its low signal-to-noise ratio (sNR) and limited visibility of blood vessel lumens remain challenges. To address these issues, we propose an innovative deconvolution approach that leverages the differential of the LED light pulse to enhance photoacoustic image quality. Our optimized reconstruction algorithm improves blood vessel visualization by applying deconvolution of the PA signals with the differential of the LED pulse, leading to improved lumen visibility and enhanced imaging of peripheral blood vessels in both 2D and potentially 3D. Our method precisely measures the LED pulse profile using the LED arrays integrated into our AcousticX system. The second differential of this pulse is then utilized as the point spread function (PsF) in the deconvolution process. This technique effectively enhances PA signals by emphasizing the leading and trailing edges of the pulse, thereby improving blood vessel visibility and overall image quality. To validate our approach, we conducted experiments using tissue-mimicking phantoms and human volunteers with the AcousticX system. The algorithm was tested offline in MATLAB and in real-time on the AcousticX platform. Results demonstrate substantial artifact suppression, improved sNR, and enhanced image contrast, ultimately enabling clearer visualization of the blood vessels. This advancement improves the competitiveness of LED-based PAI systems compared to laser-based alternatives and broadens their potential for clinical applications, accelerating their translation into medical practice. © 2025 sPIE.

Heat stress is a notable occupational health hazard, particularly because global climate change intensified environmental heat exposure. Workers in high-temperature environments, such as landfill sites, encounter significant health risks associated with heat stress, including dehydration, excessive sweating, fatigue, headaches, and potentially more severe conditions. This study examined landfill workers in Yogyakarta, where outdoor conditions increased their susceptibility to heat-related hazards. This study aimed to quantify heat stress in landfill operations via objective data analysis, which refers to the quantitative assessment of environmental heat conditions using the wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) index, with the goal of informing practical interventions and improving worker health and safety protocols. This cross-sectional study, a type of observational research design, examined data collected at specific points in time. This study involved 39 landfill workers, with WBGT measurements collected at 25 sampling locations in the morning, daylight, and afternoon. This study evaluated the risk of heat stress at various times of the day using WBGT values. The results demonstrated notable fluctuations in WBGT, with peak levels occurring in daylight, consequently increasing the risk of heat stress. Age and body weight are significant factors because older individuals and those with increased body mass exhibit heightened susceptibility to heat retention. statistical analysis revealed significant differences in WBGT measurements between morning and daylight and between daylight and afternoon (p < 0.001). These findings highlight the necessity for timely monitoring and management strategies to reduce heat stress risk, especially during daylight hours. © 2025 The Authors
