Selecting the best type of equipment among available switches with different prices and reliability levels is a significant challenge in distribution system *** this paper,the optimal type of switches in a radial distribution system is selected by considering the total cost and reliability criterion and using the weighted augmented epsilon constraint method and combinatorial optimization.A new index is calculated to assess the robustness of each Pareto ***,for each failure,repair time is considered based on historical *** Carlo simulations are used to consider the switch failure uncertainty and fault repair time uncertainty in the *** proposed framework is applied to an RTBS Bus-2 test ***,the model is also applied to an industrial system to verify the proposed method’s excellent performance in larger practical engineering problems.

In thin steel plate production lines, contact conveying by rollers is used, which sometimes results in scratches and plating defects on the steel plate surface. To solve this problem, non-contact conveyance by magnetic levitation is expected. When thin steel plates are magnetically levitated, magnetic levitation control becomes difficult due to deflection caused by the flexibility of the plate. Therefore, we have proposed a curved magnetic levitation system that improves the levitation stability by curving the steel plate for magnetic levitation. However, the dynamic behavior of thin steel plates during bending magnetic levitation have not been clarified. In this report, we performed a levitation experiments of bending steel plate, and input disturbance to the bending levitation device. From the measured response of levitated and oscillated steel plate, it was confirmed that the bending thin steel plate was in rigid body motion due to the disturbance. © 2024 The Institute of electrical Engineers of Japan.

Several refrigerants have been developed to solve environmental problems and to create efficient heat exchangers. The optimal design of the heat exchanger depends on the physical properties of the refrigerant. An electrical measurement for the flow characteristics is an effective experimental method. We developed a small wire mesh sensor to measure void fraction distribution parameters in refrigerant-air two-phase flow. Small wire mesh sensors without switching systems can be used for a refrigerant (e.g., HFE-71IPA), which can flow a small electric current under high voltage. For verification of the small wire mesh sensor, instantaneous and time averaged void fraction distribution in water-air two-phase flow in a vertical small diameter pipe was measured and analyzed for both bubble and slug flows. The test channel was a vertical circular 9 mm i.d. glass pipe. Each volumetric flux was 0.2-2.0 m/s for the gas phase and 0.1 m/s for the liquid phase in bubble flow, and 0.5- 1.0 for the gas phase and 0.2-0.3 m/s for the liquid phase in slug flow. The resulting void fraction distribution data were compared with different flow regimes, and past data and literature. The result showed that detail void fraction distribution measurement by using the small wire mesh sensor without switching system is possible for bubble and slug flow. © 2021 Begell House Inc.. In this paper, the feasibility of three-phase AC power routing is shown with a power router designed for three-phase AC system. The feasibility of three-phase power routing is clarified based on not only the laboratory experiments but also field demonstration using the prototype of the SiC three-phase power router and self-owned power line along railway’s track. The demonstration shows that the circuit switching for the power routing causes no impact to the communication for railway’s control.

Railway transportation is a vital mode of transportation that is widely used across the globe. Ensuring the safety of passengers and the train is of utmost importance, along with optimizing energy efficiency. Wheel-rail contact adhesion is an essential parameter that determines the rolling motion of wheels on the rails. The coefficient of friction plays a crucial role in determining the adhesion parameter, and a reduction in the coefficient of friction can lead to wheel skidding. In this paper, an optimized slip/slide prevention control algorithm has been proposed that works separately on each axle, thereby determining which axle is slipping and providing control to that axle set only. The algorithm prevents wheel locking during heavy slide detection and provides emergency brake assistance in emergency situations. The simulation results show that the optimized protection system provides better safety measures against axle lock in emergency situations. The proposed algorithm not only ensures passenger safety but also supports large energy savings in wheel slip and slide. The model consists of a full-scale model of a 3-car electric train unit constructed with the help of MATLAB-Simulink modeling and simulation software. The proposed algorithm has been implemented and tested on the simulated model of a train unit in MATLAB-Simulink, demonstrating significant improvements from the previous research.

The issue of cost-sharing has been familiar since ancient times. Even today, it is used in various situations, such as cost-sharing for infrastructure development and contributions to neighborhood associations. Many methods have been proposed for the cost-sharing problem. One typical solution is the Shapley value. However, there are cases where the best solution cannot be obtained. In addition, if the solution is disadvantageous to the parties, there is a risk of dissatisfaction and failure to reach an agreement. On the other hand, gaming solutions are attracting attention. A mutually satisfactory solution can be obtained by gaming by solving the cost-sharing problem between the parties. Furthermore, better solutions than other methods have been derived. In this paper, we report on the optimal solution derived from the gaming results, its educational effects, and the results of a webinar on gaming in Finland and Japan. © 2023 IEEE.

The manufacturing sector is of paramount importance to a nation’s economy, as it creates employment opportunities, fosters innovation and enhances the competitive advantage in global markets. With the introduction of smart manufacturing technologies, the manufacturing sector has been able to boost its production performance, however, there is a skill gap that the manufacturing sector is facing when it comes to hiring a trained workforce. The US National Strategy for advanced Manufacturing has underlined the importance of training an advanced manufacturing workforce with an opportunity to support historically underrepresented and underserved communities. We report the outcomes of a manufacturing training certificate program that is designed to provide equitable opportunities for high-quality, industry-relevant training that can lead to sustainable employment and economic growth. A holistic curriculum was developed to teach manufacturing education including CAD, CAM, 3D printing, AR/VR technologies, robotics and automation, assembly and production lines, and measurement systems. We report the outcomes of two cohorts that graduated in Summer 2023 and Fall 2023, in which a total of 86 training sessions were conducted. Twenty-five students enrolled and 17 students (14 males and 3 females) graduated across the two cohorts - among the graduates 47% identified as Hispanic or Latino, 41% identified as African American, and the rest identified as non-white/Hispanic;16 of the graduates belonged to the low-to-middle income category. In the future, the program can be further expanded to include on the job training opportunities with local employers. We also provide recommendations to improve the learning experience of the students and enhance participation in the program. © 2024 American Society of mechanical Engineers (ASME). In this study, aluminum-doped zinc oxide(AZO) thin films were deposited onto a low-temperature polyethylene terephthalate(PET) substrate using DC magnetron sputtering. Deposition parameters included power range of 100-300 W, a working pressure of 15 mTorr, and a substrate temperature of 50 ℃. Post-deposition, flash lamp annealing(FLA) was employed as a rapid thermal processing method with a pulse duration of 1.7 ms and energy density of 7 J·cm-2, aimed at enhancing the film's quality while preserving the temperature-sensitive PET substrate. FLA offers advantages over conventional annealing,including shorter processing times and improved material properties. The structural, optical, and electrical characteristics of the AZO films were assessed using X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and Hall effect measurements. The results demonstrated that properties of AZO films varied with deposition and annealing conditions. Films deposited at 200 W and subjected to FLA exhibited superior crystallinity, with average visible light transmittance exceeding 80% and resistivity as low as 0.38 Ω·cm representing 95%improvement in transmittance. electrical analysis revealed that carrier concentration, mobility, and resistivity were influenced by both sputtering and annealing parameters. These findings underscore the effectiveness of FLA in optimizing AZO thin film properties, highlighting potential in optoelectronics applications.

In this paper, to expand a control bandwidth of AC servo motor, a new current vector control considering an output delay of PWM Inverter is proposed. The proposed current control is a I-P control with an additional feedback gain, which is based on an extended state feedback consisted from a d-q motor model, the output delay of PWM inverter and an integrator of ACR. In addition, the proposed method is easy to implement to the existing AC servo system. The effectiveness of proposed method is validated in a computer simulation and an experiments using a 3.7 kW class motor test bench. In the condition that a cut-off frequency of ACR is close to a carrier frequency, the simulation results show that the proposed method dramatically improves the current response at the higher cut-off frequency. Moreover, the experimental results show that the proposed method dramatically improves the current response at each operating point. From the results, the proposed method is effective to the expand the bandwidth of AC servo motor.
