In this paper, we propose an adaptive proximal inexact gradient (APIG) framework for solving a class of nonsmooth composite optimization problems involving function and gradient errors. Unlike existing inexact proximal gradient methods, the proposed framework introduces a new line search condition that jointly adapts to function and gradient errors, enabling adaptive stepsize selection while maintaining theoretical guarantees. Specifically, we prove that the proposed framework achieves an ϵ-stationary point within O(ϵ−2) iterations for nonconvex objectives and an ϵ-optimal solution within O(ϵ−1) iterations for convex cases, matching the best-known complexity in this context. We then custom-apply the APIG framework to an important signal processing problem: the joint beamforming and compression problem (JBCP) with per-antenna power constraints (PAPCs) in cooperative cellular networks. This customized application requires careful exploitation of the problem’s special structure such as the tightness of the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) and the differentiability of the dual. Controlled-source electromagnetic noise attenuation via a deep convolutional neural network and high-quality sounding curve screening mechanism

Strong noise is one of the biggest challenges in controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) exploration, which severely affects the quality of the recorded signal. We develop a novel and effective CSEM noise attenuation method that integrates a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) with a high-quality sounding curve screening mechanism. This method first uses a DCNN to learn the large-scale noise characteristics of CSEM measured data and build a DCNN denoising model for attenuating the noise. Because some impulse noise remains after DCNN denoising, the high-quality sounding curve screening mechanism is innovatively applied to optimize the DCNN denoised data. The core of this method is the smoothness value (SV), which quantitatively evaluates the smoothness of the sounding curve (apparent resistivity curve). In effect, the mechanism segments the overall DCNN denoised data and calculates the corresponding sounding curve and its SV for each segment. The highest-quality sounding curve can be screened out by comparing the SVs of all curves as well as obtaining the highest-quality data segment present in the overall DCNN denoised data. Finally, our method is validated with synthetic and field data, demonstrating its feasibility and effectiveness in attenuating large-scale CSEM noise. The quality of CSEM data, which is heavily affected by noise, is significantly improved after processing by our method. © 2025 Society of Exploration Geophysicists. All rights reserved.

ApriDS: An evidence linkage network construction model for judgment documents

Evidence serves as the basis for determining facts in the judicial trial process, and exploring the correlation between evidence has become an essential task. However, there is uncertainty and unreliability of evidence. In this paper, we propose an ApriDS model that can mine correlations between evidence and construct evidence linkage networks. Specifically, we use the association rule algorithm to mining for the correlations between evidence in order to initially construct an evidence linkage network. Moreover, we also combine the imprecise reasoning theory to alleviate unreliability among evidence. Finally, combining the above effectively mitigates uncertainty and unreliability in the evidence linkage network. We conduct extensive experiments and present analyses on five case datasets, including marriages, thefts, homicides, contract disputes and unlawful detention. Compared to the baseline model, our method’s accuracy improves by 12.75%, 14.16%, 14.80%, 21.64% and 26.15% on the five datasets, respectively. © The Author(s) 2025.

In high-risk industrial environments like nuclear power plants, precise defect identification and localization are essential for maintaining production stability and safety. However, the complexity of such a harsh environment leads to significant variations in the shape and size of the defects. To address this challenge, we propose the multivariate time series segmentation network(MSSN), which adopts a multiscale convolutional network with multi-stage and depth-separable convolutions for efficient feature extraction through variable-length templates. To tackle the classification difficulty caused by structural signal variance, MSSN employs logarithmic normalization to adjust instance distributions. Furthermore, it integrates classification with smoothing loss functions to accurately identify defect segments amid similar structural and defect signal subsequences. Our algorithm evaluated on both the Mackey-Glass dataset and industrial dataset achieves over 95% localization and demonstrates the capture capability on the synthetic dataset. In a nuclear plant's heat transfer tube dataset, it captures 90% of defect instances with75% middle localization F1 score.

Early detection and assessment of polyps play a crucial role in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC). Polyp segmentation provides an effective solution to assist clinicians in accurately locating and segmenting polyp regions. In the past, people often relied on manually extracted lower-level features such as color, texture, and shape, which often had problems capturing global context and lacked robustness to complex scenarios. With the advent of deep learning, more and more medical image segmentation algorithms based on deep learning networks have emerged, making significant progress in the field. This paper provides a comprehensive review of polyp segmentation algorithms. We first review some traditional algorithms based on manually extracted features and deep segmentation algorithms, and then describe benchmark datasets related to the topic. Specifically, we carry out a comprehensive evaluation of recent deep learning models and results based on polyp size, taking into account the focus of research topics and differences in network structures. Finally, we discuss the challenges of polyp segmentation and future trends in the field. © The Author(s) 2025.

Efficient Single-server Private Inference Outsourcing for Convolutional Neural Networks

Private inference outsourcing ensures the privacy of both clients and model owners when model owners deliver inference services to clients through third-party cloud servers. Existing solutions either reduce inference accuracy due to model approximations or rely on the unrealistic assumption of non-colluding servers. Moreover, their efficiency falls short of HELiKs, a solution focused solely on client privacy protection. In this paper, we propose Skybolt, a single-server private inference outsourcing framework without resorting to model approximations, achieving greater efficiency than HELiKs. Skybolt is built upon efficient secure two-party computation protocols that safeguard the privacy of both clients and model owners. For the linear calculation protocol, we devise a ciphertext packing algorithm for homomorphic matrix multiplication, effectively reducing both computational and communication overheads. Additionally, our nonlinear calculation protocol features a lightweight online phase, involving only the addition and multiplication on secret shares. This stands in contrast to existing protocols, which entail resource-intensive techniques such as oblivious transfer. Extensive experiments on popular models, including ResNet50 and DenseNet121, show that Skybolt achieves a 5.4 − 7.3× reduction in inference latency, accompanied by a 20.1 − 39.6× decrease in communication cost compared to HELiKs. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

TEAM: Temporal Adversarial Examples Attack Model Against Network Intrusion Detection System Applied to RNN

With the development of artificial intelligence, neural networks play a key role in network intrusion detection systems (NIDS). Despite the tremendous advantages, neural networks are susceptible to adversarial attacks. To improve the reliability of NIDS, many research has been conducted and plenty of solutions have been proposed. However, the existing solutions rarely consider the adversarial attacks against recurrent neural networks (RNN) with time steps, which would greatly affect the application of NIDS in real world. Therefore, we first propose a novel RNN adversarial attack model based on feature reconstruction called Temporal adversarial Examples Attack Model (TEAM), which applied to time series data and reveals the potential connection between adversarial and time steps in RNN. That is, the past adversarial examples within the same time steps can trigger further attacks on current or future original examples. Moreover, TEAM leverages Time Dilation (TD) to effectively mitigates the effect of temporal among adversarial examples within the same time steps. Experimental results show that in most attack categories, TEAM improves the misjudgment rate of NIDS on both black and white boxes, making the misjudgment rate reach more than 97.65%. Meanwhile, the maximum increase in the misjudgment rate of the NIDS for subsequent original examples exceeds 95.57%. © 2013 IEEE.

Towards A Universal, Transferable and Robust Adversarial Perturbation Framework Against Deep Hashing-Based Facial Image Retrieval

Deep Hashing (DH) based image retrieval is commonly used in facial recognition systems for its precision and effectiveness. However, this convenience is accompanied by a mounting threat to privacy. The DH model possesses vulnerability to adversarial attacks, which can be leveraged to prevent the retrieval of private images. Current adversarial attacks on DH models commonly focus on individual images or specific categories, lacking universal perturbations for the entire hashing dataset. This paper introduces the UTAP series, the first universal, transferable, and robust adversarial perturbation against DH facial image retrieval, safeguarding all images with a single *** explore the relationships between clusters learned by different DH models and define the optimization goal for optimizing UTAP series as moving away from the voted overall hashcenter. To alleviate the challenges of single-objective optimization, we randomly vote for sub-cluster centers and propose sub-task-based meta-learning to aid global optimization. Furthermore, we dissect the functional roles of key components in DH models and introduce UTAP++, a feature-hashing two-stage attack that is readily adaptable to cross-model and cross-scheme ensemble adversarial attacks. Extensive experiments conducted on renowned face datasets and DH models under varied complex scenarios, encompassing cross-image, cross-model, crossbit, cross-algorithm, model ensemble, algorithm ensemble, and image compression, reveal that the UTAP series demonstrate remarkable universality, transferability, and robustness in preventing facial image retrieval. Compared to existing state-of-theart methods, the UTAP series excel in white-box settings and exhibits significant transferability improvements of 10% - 70% in all black-box settings, with 20% and 55% average robustness improvements in white-box and black-box settings, respectively. Friedel-Crafts reaction and transition-metal catalysis represent primary methodologies for arene acylation; however, suffer from certain limitations, such as electronic effect-dependent reactivity, regioselectivity issues, the necessity of directing group, and relatively exceptionally limited exploration in meta-and para-acylations. N-heterocyclic carbene(NHC) catalysis has recently emerged as a promising alternative strategy for arene acylation, offering distinct regioselectivity profiles that are challenging to achieve through known methods. Herein, an NHC-mediated photo-catalytic para-selective C–H acylation of aryl alcohols is disclosed. The reaction employs a remote radical-induced temporary spiro cyclization strategy, proceeding via tandem radical dearomatization, radical acylation, rearomatization processes. Combined experimental and computational mechanistic studies support the proposed reaction pathway and observe an exclusive para-selectivity regardless of the nature of the substituents on the substrates. Despite the less satisfactory yields, the current method exhibits non-electronic nature-based reactivity and regioselectivity, enabling quick access to acylated arenes that are difficult or impossible for reported methods.

The development of voice cloning techniques has made forgery audios indistinguishable, posing an urgency to trace their sources. Many existing works focus on improving identification accuracy for audio deepfake algorithm recognition. However, most methods ignore the impact of complex information in audio signals on attribution. In this paper, we propose an audio deepfake attribution enhancement (ADAE) strategy, which aims to magnify the fingerprints of generation styles by removing the speaker information. This is achieved through an information disentangle block with an extra speaker encoder. In addition, we propose the FakeSource dataset, a novel audio deepfake algorithm recognition dataset that contains 25 different voice cloning algorithms, to address the constraint of data scarcity. Experiments on the FakeSource dataset demonstrate that ADAE improves the performance of unseen algorithm detection. We also assess ADAE on a more challenging training-free task which shows competitive performance.
