Effect of order–disorder transition on thermodynamic and electronic properties of σ and χ phases in W–Re alloy: the first-principles calculation

The Tungsten-Rhenium(W-Re) alloys,celebrated for their high melting point,strength at elevated temperatures,electrical resistivity,and radiation resistance,have been widely utilized in high-temperature components,aerospace,electronics,and nuclear *** constituents of the topologically close-packed(TCP) phases,the sigma phase(σ) and chi phase(χ) formed within W-Re alloys wield considerable influence on the mechanical properties and the stability of the *** calculations were utilized in the present work to explore the structural,thermodynamic,and electronic properties of both ordered and disordered configurations within the σ and χ phases,culminating in a systematic elucidation of the higher phase stability exhibited by the ordered *** is found that the bulk modulus of these two phases is directly proportional to the concentration of Re in the alloy,while the equilibrium volume is inversely *** thermodynamic parameters of the σ and χ phases are calculated via the mean-field potential *** similar trends observed in the isobaric heat capacity,enthalpy increment,and entropy change curves for these two phases suggest they possess comparable thermodynamic *** is noteworthy that the contribution of ionic vibrations predominantly affects the isobaric heat capacity,while the contribution of thermal electronic excitations increases linearly with *** the structure and thermodynamic properties of TCP phases in W-Re alloys at low temperatures has profound significance for optimizing material performance,microstructures features,establishing theoretical foundations,and predicting material behavior.

Early studies on Rayleigh−Taylor instability(RTI)primarily relied on the Navier−Stokes(NS)*** research progresses,it becomes increasingly evident that the kinetic information that the NS model failed to capture is of great value for identifying and even controlling the RTI process;simultaneously,the lack of analysis techniques for complex physical fields results in a significant waste of data *** addition,early RTI studies mainly focused on the incompressible case and the weakly compressible *** the case of strong compressibility,the density of the fluid from the upper layer(originally heavy fluid)may become smaller than that of the surrounding(originally light)fluid,thus invalidating the early method of distinguishing light and heavy fluids based on *** this paper,tracer particles are incorporated into a single-fluid discrete Boltzmann method(DBM)model that considers the van der Waals *** using tracer particles to label the matter-particle sources,a careful study of the matter-mixing and energy-mixing processes of the RTI evolution is realized in the single-fluid *** effects of compressibility on the evolution of RTI are examined mainly through the analysis of bubble and spike velocities,the ratio of area occupied by heavy fluid,and various entropy generation rates of the *** is demonstrated that:(i)compressibility has a suppressive effect on the spike velocity,and this suppressive impact diminishes as the Atwood number(At)*** influence of compressibility on bubble velocity shows a staged behavior with increasing.(ii)The impact of compressibility on the entropy production rate associated with the heat flow(S_(NOEF))is related to the stages of RTI ***,this staged impact of compressibility on S_(NOEF)varies with *** exhibits an inhibitory effect on the entropy production rate associated with viscous stresses(S_(NOEF)).(iii)By incorporating the morphological parameter of the pr

Electronic thermal conductivity of tungsten-based systems during collision cascade processes

The thermal conductivity of plasma-facing materials(PFM)exposed to intense radiation is a critical concern for the reliable usage of materials in fusion ***,limited research has been performed regarding the thermal conductivity of structures that rapidly change in a short time during collision cascade processes under *** this study,we employed the tight-binding(TB)method to investigate the electronic thermal conductivity(κ_(e))of tungsten-based systems during various cascading *** found thatκ_(e) values sharply decrease within the initial 0.3 picoseconds and then partially recover at a slow pace;this is closely linked to the evolution of defects and microstructural *** increase in the initial kinetic energy of the primary knock-on atom and the presence of a high concentration of hydrogen atoms further decrease theκ_(e) ***,higher temperatures have a significant positive effect onκ_(e).Furthermore,the presence of a grain boundary∑5[001](130)substantially reducesκ_(e),whereas the absorption effect of point defects by the grain boundary has little influence onκ_(e) during *** findings provide a theoretical basis for evaluating changes in the thermal conductivity performance of PFMs during their usage in nuclear fusion reactors.

Study, development and related application of a miniature compact pulsed power supply with high repetition frequency

Capacitor-based pulsed power supply (PPS) is widely used in fields related to electromagnetic launch, plasma, and materials' synthesis, modification and processing. As industrial applications place higher requirements on compact and portable pulsed power supplies, the national key laboratory of Transient physics (NKLTP) recently developed a pulsed power supply consisting of a set of compact pulse-forming units (PFU), each with a capacitor energy storage of 220 kJ. This integrated PPS comes with a complete system configuration, a miniature compact structure, a high rate of repetition, and high power, with energy storage density exceeding 1.2 MJ/m3. This paper describes the device-level design of the unit, the system layout, the control system, the thermal management system, and the experimental results of the pulsed power supply. The experimental results verified the good reliability of the PPS at high repetition rates with each unit module delivering an output current of more than 100 kA. Additionally, flexible current pulse shapes can be formed by setting the charging voltage and the trigger sequence of the PFUs. The pulse forming network (PFN) developed from these PFUs was successfully applied to electromagnetic launch. © 2025 China Ordnance Society

A novel Li-ion based transistor within LiCoO2/Li6.75La3Zr1.5Ta0.5O12/Ag scheme

Traditional electronic devices are reaching their physical limits as they shrink in size to improve integration. Solid ionic devices have become promising candidate to avoid tunneling effect and address these constraints, but the response time are typically sluggish. In recent years, the rapid development of solid electrolyte and solid-state battery provide superior choices to overcome limitations in ion transport. In this work, we construct an ionic transistor within Ag/LiCoO2/Li6.75La3Zr1.5Ta0.5O12（LLZTO）/Ag structure. LiCoO2serves as the channel layer of the transistor, with LLZTO acting as the electrolyte to isolate electrons and facilitate ion conduction, and Ag as the gate/anode. XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and electrochemical characterization confirm lithiation and *** characterization demonstrates the continuous resistive switching of the LiCoO2channel layer between high and low resistive states under pulsed gate voltage control, exhibiting high reversibility and long cycle stability. By combining X-ray absorption spectroscopy（XAS） and X-ray emission spectroscopy（XES）, the transition between high and low resistive states can be well clarified by a first-order Mott transition scheme. These results provide new perspectives for performance improvement and further development of ionic devices.

The field-reversed configuration(FRC)plasma thruster driven by rotating magnetic field(RMF),abbreviated as the RMF-FRC thruster,is a new type of electric propulsion technology that is expected to accelerate the deep space *** experimental prototype,including diagnostic devices,was designed and constructed based on the principles of the RMF-FRC thruster,with an RMF frequency of 210 kHz and a maximum peak current of 2 *** the rated operating conditions,the initial plasma density was measured to be 5×10^(17)m^(-3),and increased to 2.2×10^(19)m^(-3)after the action of *** coupling efficiency of RMF was about 53%,and the plasma current reached 1.9 *** axial magnetic field changed in reverse by 155 Gauss,successfully reversing the bias magnetic field of 60 Gauss,which verifies the formation of FRC *** optimization research,it was found that when the bias magnetic field is 100 Gauss,the axial magnetic field reverse variation caused by FRC is the highest at 164 *** experimental results are discussed and strategies are proposed to improve the performance of the prototype.

Evaluation and Suppression of Vibrational Noise for Cryogenic Surface Electrode Ion Traps

Cryogenic ion traps offer substantial advantages over their room-temperature counterparts,particularly in terms of stable ion confinement and ***,this technological advancement has introduced a significant challenge,namely the generation of additional vibrational *** noise is pronounced during the compression and expansion phases of the Gifford–McMahon cycle refrigerator and stems from the mechanical operation of the cold *** residual vibrational noise can modulate the Rabi oscillation frequency,thereby compromising the fidelity of the quantum logic *** this study,we quantitatively assess the impact of residual vibrational noise and introduce an innovative strategy for its *** strategy was designed to reduce superimposed potential fluctuations within a cryogenic surface electrode ion *** measured residual vibrational noise was used for real-time feedback *** the inverse determination of the compensating potential for a stable superimposed trapping potential is an inherently ill-posed problem considering known measurement noise *** applying quadratic programming,we numerically calculated the optimal time series for the compensation *** ensemble of these compensation voltages was applied in real time to the static compensation *** this method is in the theoretical stage,we believe that it can effectively suppress the translation induced by vibrational noise and foster the creation of a stable superimposed harmonic *** deployment of this technique is expected to substantially improve the accuracy of quantum operations,thereby fueling the evolution of quantum technologies.

Critical collapse in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime

We investigate the critical collapse of spherically symmetric scalar fields in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime,focusing on two scenarios:real and complex scalar fields with *** fine-tuning the amplitude of the initial scalar field under different cosmological constants,we find a linear relationship between the critical amplitude of the first collapse and the cosmological constant in both ***,we observe that the slope of this linear relationship varies linearly with coupling strength.
