Cloud computing (CC) platform not only offers resource sharing for users and also provide many on-demand services. Business procedures can be managed to utilize the workflow technology on the cloud which signifies most of the problems in employing the resources in an effectual approach because of the dependencies between the tasks. Task scheduling (TS) in a CC platform applies to the procedure of effectively allocating resources computing to tasks or jobs submitted to the CC environment. In a cloud platform, tasks are separated as smaller subtasks that are applied in parallel on distinct machines. There are many features to consider if the TS is in CC platform, comprising the kind of tasks like resources cost, resources required, and resources availability. Therefore, this study presents a Hybrid Competitive Swarm Optimization Algorithm based Task Scheduling (HCSOA-TS) technique in the CC platform. The presented HCSOA-TS technique schedules the tasks proficiently in such a way that maximum resource utilization and performance gets accomplished. In the design of HCSOA, Cauchy mutation operator is included in the CSO algorithm and thereby improves the overall performance. In addition, the derivation of the fitness function by the HCSOA-TS technique undergoes optimal scheduling process and decreases energy usage. The experimental result analysis of the HCSOA-TS technique is tested using a series of measures. The comprehensive comparison study highlighted the improvements of the HCSOA-TS technique over recent approaches.

Bayesian Learning for the Robust Verification of Autonomous Robots

Autonomous robots used in infrastructure inspection, space exploration and other critical missions operate in highly dynamic environments. As such, they must continually verify their ability to complete the tasks associated with these missions safely and effectively. Here we present a Bayesian learning framework that enables this runtime verification of autonomous robots. The framework uses prior knowledge and observations of the verified robot to learn expected ranges for the occurrence rates of regular and singular (e.g., catastrophic failure) events. Interval continuous-time Markov models defined using these ranges are then analysed to obtain expected intervals of variation for system properties such as mission duration and success probability. We apply the framework to an autonomous robotic mission for underwater infrastructure inspection and repair. The formal proofs and experiments presented in the paper show that our framework produces results that reflect the uncertainty intrinsic to many real-world systems, enabling the robust verification of their quantitative properties under parametric uncertainty. © 2023, CC BY.

The existence of pulsating stars in eclipsing binaries has been known for *** types of objects are extremely valuable systems for astronomical studies as they exhibit both eclipse and pulsation *** eclipsing binaries are the only way to directly measure the mass and radius of stars with a good accuracy(≤1%),while the pulsations are a unique way to probe the stellar interior via oscillation *** are different types of pulsating stars existing in eclipsing *** of them is theδScuti ***,the known number ofδScuti stars in eclipsing binaries is around 90 according to the latest catalog of these *** increasing number of these kinds of variables is important to understand the stellar structure,evolution and the effect of binarity on the ***,in this study,we focus on discovering new eclipsing binaries withδScuti component(s).We searched within the northern Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS)field with a visual inspection by following some criteria such as light curve shape,the existence of pulsation like variations in the out-of-eclipse light curve and the T_(eff) values of the *** a result of these criteria,we discovered some *** orbital variations were first removed from the TESS light curves and frequency analysis was performed on the *** luminosity,and absolute and bolometric magnitudes of the targets were calculated as *** find how much of these parameters represent the primary(more luminous)binary component,we also computed the flux density ratio of the systems by utilizing the area of the *** addition,the positions of the systems in the H-R diagram were examined considering the flux density *** a consequence of the investigation,we defined 38 candidateδScuti stars and also one Maia variable in eclipsing binary systems.

In autonomous and mobile robotics, a principal challenge is resilient real-time environmental perception, particularly in situations characterized by unknown and dynamic elements, as exemplified in the context of autonomous drone racing. This study introduces a perception technique for detecting drone racing gates under illumination variations, which is common during high-speed drone flights. The proposed technique relies upon a lightweight neural network backbone augmented with capabilities for continual learning. The envisaged approach amalgamates predictions of the gates' positional coordinates, distance, and orientation, encapsulating them into a cohesive pose tuple. A comprehensive number of tests serve to underscore the efficacy of this approach in confronting diverse and challenging scenarios, specifically those involving variable lighting conditions. The proposed methodology exhibits notable robustness in the face of illumination variations, thereby substantiating its effectiveness.

The existence of pulsating stars in eclipsing binaries has been known for decades. These types of objects are extremely valuable systems for astronomical studies as they exhibit both eclipse and pulsation variations. The eclipsing binaries are the only way to directly measure the mass and radius of stars with a good accuracy（≤1%）,while the pulsations are a unique way to probe the stellar interior via oscillation frequencies. There are different types of pulsating stars existing in eclipsing binaries. One of them is the δ Scuti variables. Currently, the known number of δ Scuti stars in eclipsing binaries is around 90 according to the latest catalog of these variables. An increasing number of these kinds of variables is important to understand the stellar structure, evolution and the effect of binarity on the pulsations. Therefore, in this study, we focus on discovering new eclipsing binaries with δ Scuti component（s）. We searched within the northern Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite（TESS） field with a visual inspection by following some criteria such as light curve shape, the existence of pulsation like variations in the out-of-eclipse light curve and the Teffvalues of the targets. As a result of these criteria, we discovered some targets. The orbital variations were first removed from the TESS light curves and frequency analysis was performed on the residuals. The luminosity, and absolute and bolometric magnitudes of the targets were calculated as well. To find how much of these parameters represent the primary（more luminous） binary component, we also computed the flux density ratio of the systems by utilizing the area of the eclipses. In addition, the positions of the systems in the H-R diagram were examined considering the flux density ratios. As a consequence of the investigation, we defined 38 candidate δ Scuti stars and also one Maia variable in eclipsing binary systems.

One-Shot Action Recognition via Multi-Scale Spatial-Temporal Skeleton Matching

One-shot skeleton action recognition, which aims to learn a skeleton action recognition model with a single training sample, has attracted increasing interest due to the challenge of collecting and annotating large-scale skeleton action data. However, most existing studies match skeleton sequences by comparing their feature vectors directly which neglects spatial structures and temporal orders of skeleton data. This paper presents a novel one-shot skeleton action recognition technique that handles skeleton action recognition via multi-scale spatialtemporal feature matching. We represent skeleton data at multiple spatial and temporal scales and achieve optimal feature matching from two perspectives. The first is multi-scale matching which captures the scale-wise semantic relevance of skeleton data at multiple spatial and temporal scales simultaneously. The second is cross-scale matching which handles different motion magnitudes and speeds by capturing sample-wise relevance across multiple scales. Extensive experiments over three large-scale datasets (NTU RGB+D, NTU RGB+D 120, and PKU-MMD) show that our method achieves superior one-shot skeleton action recognition, and outperforms SOTA consistently by large margins. An optimal relay scheme for outage minimization in fog-based internet-of-things (IoT) networks

Fog devices are beginning to play a key role in relaying data and services within the Internet-of-Things (IoT) ecosystem. These relays may be static or mobile, with the latter offering a new degree of freedom for performance improvement via careful relay mobility design. Besides that, power conservation has been a prevalent issue in IoT networks with devices being power-constrained, requiring optimal power-control mechanisms. In this paper, we consider a multi-tier fog-based IoT architecture where a mobile/static fog node acts as an amplify and forward relay that transmits received information from a sensor node to a higher hierarchically-placed static fog device, which offers some localized services. The outage probability of the presented scenario was efficiently minimized by jointly optimizing the mobility pattern and the transmit power of the fog relay. A closed-form analytical expression for the outage probability was derived. Furthermore, due to the intractability and non-convexity of the formulated problem, we applied an iterative algorithm based on the steepest descent method to arrive at a desirable objective. Simulations reveal that the outage probability was improved by 62.7% in the optimized-location fixed-power (OLFP) scheme, 79.3% in the optimized-power fixed-location (OPFL) scheme, and 94.2% in the optimized-location optimized-power (OLOP) scheme, as against the fixed-location and fixed-power (FLFP) scheme (i.e., without optimization). Self-Supervised 3D Action Representation Learning with Skeleton Cloud Colorization

3D Skeleton-based human action recognition has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Most of the existing work focuses on supervised learning which requires a large number of labeled action sequences that are often expensive and time-consuming to annotate. In this paper, we address self-supervised 3D action representation learning for skeleton-based action recognition. We investigate self-supervised representation learning and design a novel skeleton cloud colorization technique that is capable of learning spatial and temporal skeleton representations from unlabeled skeleton sequence data. We represent a skeleton action sequence as a 3D skeleton cloud and colorize each point in the cloud according to its temporal and spatial orders in the original (unannotated) skeleton sequence. Leveraging the colorized skeleton point cloud, we design an auto-encoder framework that can learn spatial-temporal features from the artificial color labels of skeleton joints effectively. Specifically, we design a two-steam pretraining network that leverages fine-grained and coarse-grained colorization to learn multi-scale spatial-temporal features. In addition, we design a Masked Skeleton Cloud Repainting task that can pretrain the designed auto-encoder framework to learn informative representations. We evaluate our skeleton cloud colorization approach with linear classifiers trained under different configurations, including unsupervised, semi-supervised, fully-supervised, and transfer learning settings. Extensive experiments on NTU RGB+D, NTU RGB+D 120, PKU-MMD, NW-UCLA, and UWA3D datasets show that the proposed method outperforms existing unsupervised and semi-supervised 3D action recognition methods by large margins and achieves competitive performance in supervised 3D action recognition as well. Trusted-maximizers entropy search for efficient Bayesian optimization

Information-based Bayesian optimization (BO) algorithms have achieved state-of-the-art performance in optimizing a black-box objective function. However, they usually require several approximations or simplifying assumptions (without clearly understanding their effects on the BO performance) and/or their generalization to batch BO is computationally unwieldy, especially with an increasing batch size. To alleviate these issues, this paper presents a novel trusted-maximizers entropy search (TES) acquisition function: It measures how much an input query contributes to the information gain on the maximizer over a finite set of trusted maximizers, i.e., inputs optimizing functions that are sampled from the Gaussian process posterior belief of the objective function. Evaluating TES requires either only a stochastic approximation with sampling or a deterministic approximation with expectation propagation, both of which are investigated and empirically evaluated using synthetic benchmark objective functions and real-world optimization problems, e.g., hyperparameter tuning of a convolutional neural network and synthesizing 'physically realizable' faces to fool a black-box face recognition system. Though TES can naturally be generalized to a batch variant with either approximation, the latter is amenable to be scaled to a much larger batch size in our experiments.
