With the development of deep learning and computer vision, face detection has achieved rapid progress owing. Face detection has several application domains, including identity authentication, security protection, media, and entertainment. Although multi-task cascaded convolutional neural networks (MTCNN) have high accuracy and robustness, the model has the disadvantages of large parameters and computational overhead in the real scene due to the complexity of the real scene and the constraints of hardware facilities. Therefore, the development of an improved network model is crucial. This paper improves the MTCNN model by reducing the number of parameters and the computational overhead and using better model parameters to locate the key points of the face. This model improves the accuracy and robustness of the face age estimation. The WiderFace and CelebA datasets are used for training. The final face detection accuracy reaches 98.7% while simultaneously reducing the number of model parameters to 70% under the same conditions. This model meets the application needs of modern society for face detection and demonstrates the efficiency and accuracy of the improved network model. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). This paper introduces a new network model - the Image Guidance Encoder-Decoder Model (IG-ED), designed to enhance the efficiency of image captioning and improve predictive accuracy. IG-ED, a fusion of the convolutional network VGGNet-16 and the long short-term memory network (LSTM), is designed based on the encoder-decoder structure. The image captioning performance sees significant enhancements when leveraging the IG-ED network model. The network training process unfolds in a series of steps. Initially, the input image undergoes convolution via the VGGNet-16 network, producing a 512-dimensional vector. Concurrently, each word in the image's caption is encoded to generate a corresponding 512-dimensional vector consistent with the image feature dimension. These two vectors form the input for the decoding process. Subsequently, the vectors are fed into the redesigned fusion LSTM (F-LSTM) network at different time steps to gradually train the parameters of the IG-ED framework. The training process is completed by utilizing a loss function for determining convergence. Evaluation of the IG-ED model's performance is conducted using CIDEr and seven other evaluation metrics on the MSCOCO 2014 dataset. The results exhibit substantial improvements over the "Adaptive Attention Mode" network and "Neural Talk" network. Additionally, the parameter count of the IG-ED architecture is significantly reduced compared to the "Adaptive Attention Mode" network, leading to decreased computational resource requirements and enabling edge computing on the neural network. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). Deep visual-linguistic fusion network considering cross-modal inconsistency for rumor detection

With the development of the Internet, users can freely publish posts on various social media platforms, which offers great convenience for keeping abreast of the world. However, posts usually carry many rumors, which require plenty of manpower for monitoring. Owing to the success of modern machine learning techniques, especially deep learning models, we tried to detect rumors as a classification problem automatically. Early attempts have always focused on building classifiers relying on image or text information, i.e., single modality in posts. Thereafter, several multimodal detection approaches employ an early or late fusion operator for aggregating multiple source information. Nevertheless, they only take advantage of multimodal embeddings for fusion and ignore another important detection factor, i.e., the intermodal inconsistency between modalities. To solve this problem, we develop a novel deep visual-linguistic fusion network(DVLFN) considering cross-modal inconsistency, which detects rumors by comprehensively considering modal aggregation and contrast information. Specifically, the DVLFN first utilizes visual and textual deep encoders, i.e., Faster R-CNN and bidirectional encoder representations from transformers, to extract global and regional embeddings for image and text modalities. Then, it predicts posts' authenticity from two aspects:(1) intermodal inconsistency, which employs the Wasserstein distance to efficiently measure the similarity between regional embeddings of different modalities, and(2) modal aggregation, which experimentally employs the early fusion to aggregate two modal embeddings for prediction. Consequently, the DVLFN can compose the final prediction based on the modal fusion and inconsistency measure. Experiments are conducted on three real-world multimedia rumor detection datasets collected from Reddit, Good News, and Weibo. The results validate the superior performance of the proposed DVLFN.

We present a novel attention-based mechanism to learn enhanced point features for point cloud processing tasks, e.g., classification and segmentation. Unlike prior studies, which were trained to optimize the weights of a pre-selected set of attention points, our approach learns to locate the best attention points to maximize the performance of a specific task, e.g., point cloud classification. Importantly, we advocate the use of single attention point to facilitate semantic understanding in point feature learning. Specifically,we formulate a new and simple convolution, which combines convolutional features from an input point and its corresponding learned attention point(LAP). Our attention mechanism can be easily incorporated into state-of-the-art point cloud classification and segmentation networks. Extensive experiments on common benchmarks, such as Model Net40, Shape Net Part, and S3DIS, all demonstrate that our LAP-enabled networks consistently outperform the respective original networks, as well as other competitive alternatives, which employ multiple attention points, either pre-selected or learned under our LAP framework.

MotionUVRNN: A Motion Capture Recurrent Neural Network for Wind Field Forecast Correction via U and V Components Modeling

Wind field forecasting is crucial for human activities, but numerical weather prediction still has room to improve accuracy. In this paper, we formalize wind field forecast correction as a spatiotemporal sequence prediction task and propose MotionUVRNN, a recurrent neural network model suitable for wind field correction. The model consists of three elements: a feature decoupling module, an encoder, and a corrector. The feature decoupling module decouples the wind field into U-Wind (Wind component in x/longitude-direction) feature, V-Wind (Wind component in y/latitude direction) feature, and spatiotemporal feature. The encoder unifiedly models the motion trend and transient variation of the wind field. A novel long short-term memory dynamic capture unit (RS-LSTM) is proposed as the core part of the encoder to capture the different dynamic patterns of U-Wind and V-Wind. The corrector extracts and integrates multi-scale wind field information to capture regional features. By correcting the 3-12 hour wind field forecasts from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF;EC for short), the proposed model reduced the wind speed prediction error by 53.37% to 46.52%, and lowered the wind direction error by 21.99% to 13.26%. Moreover, this model surpasses the existing leading spatiotemporal sequence prediction models in wind field correction. © (2024) International Association of Engineers. All rights reserved.

Revolutionizing Image Captioning: Integrating Attention Mechanisms with Adaptive Fusion Gates

In order to dynamically create a sequence of textual descriptions for images, image description models often make use of the attention mechanism, which involves an automatic focus on different regions within an image. However, a prevalent issue with current attention mechanisms is their tendency to overlook essential elements within the image, prioritizing contextual aspects of the object when generating descriptive text. This constraint results in a decrease in the precision of the textual descriptions produced. To address this issue and improve the accuracy of image interpretation, a proposed model for image description utilizes an attention-based approach and includes a multi-layer decoder and a fusion gate. This model is based on an encoder-decoder architecture and utilizes Residual Network (ResNet) framework for feature extraction during the encoding phase, thereby extending the encoder-decoder structure into the decoding phase. Within this framework, an adaptive fusion gate mechanism is introduced and combined with multi-layer cascade decoders to facilitate the generation of utterances. This allows decoders from lower layers to actively contribute to the final text prediction phase, thereby incrementally improving the accuracy of the predicted text and generating more precise descriptions. MS COCO 2014 dataset has been utilized for the purpose of training and validating the effectiveness of this model in understanding images. The results clearly and unequivocally establish the model’s capacity to generate exceptional predictions. When compared with the top-performing models, it has demonstrated significant enhancements, as indicated by a 0.096 rise in BLEU_1 metric, a 0.153 improvement in ROUGE_L metric, and a remarkable 0.32 increase in CIDEr metric on MS COCO dataset. The paper presents a new method for constructing self-supporting surfaces using arch beams that are designed to convert their thrust into supporting force, thereby eliminating shear stress and bending moments. Our method allows for the placement of the arch beams on the boundary or within a surface and partitions the surface into multiple self-supporting parts. The use of arch beams enhances stability and durability, adds aesthetic appeal, and allows for greater flexibility in the design process. We develop an iterative algorithm for designing selfsupporting surfaces with arch beams that enables the user to control the shape of the beams and surface through intuitive parameters and specify the desired location of the arch beams. We verify the physical stability of the structure using finite element analysis. Experimental results show that our method can produce visually pleasing self-supporting surfaces that satisfy the equilibrium equation with high accuracy. IEEE
