Large-scale ship-mounted cranes are important facilities for marine construction. However, under harsh sea conditions, the hoisting system of a ship-mounted crane is often subjected to wave loadings, leading to frequent occurrences of large-amplitude resonance. This paper proposes an active control method, termed the active displacement compensation (ADC) approach, designed for suppressing the large-amplitude pendulation of the hoisting system of ship-mounted cranes. By controlling the position of the suspension point of the hoisting system using linear-motion actuators, the input excitations of the hoisting system induced by the ship motions can be partially or fully compensated in real-time. Therefore, the proposed ADC approach can significantly suppress the large-amplitude pendulation of the hoisting system. The optimal feedback gain and time delay of the ADC approach are theoretically obtained. The ADC approach has been validated by using a six-degree-of-freedoms shaking table test and numerical simulation on the in-plane pendulation suppression of a small-scale hoisting system. Experimental results indicate that the ADC approach achieves a pendulation reduction ratio between 85% and 89% for the hoisting system subjected to scaled ship motion records. This study may help develop efficient active control techniques for hoisting systems of ship-mounted cranes under harsh sea conditions. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Mixed-dimensional van der Waals heterojunctions (MD-vdWhs), known for exceptional electron transfer and charge separation capabilities, remain underexplored in photocatalysis. In this study, we leveraged the synergistic effect of intermolecular π→π* and D-π-A dual channels to fabricate novel MD-vdWhs. Owing to the synergistic effect, it exhibits superior electron transfer and delocalization ability, thereby enhancing its photocatalytic performance. Additionally, we introduced a novel proof strategy for investigating the photoelectron transfer path, creatively demonstrating the synergistic dual channels effect, which can be attributed to the carbonyl density and light-excitation degree. Notably, even under low-power light sources, it achieved complete inactivation of Escherichia coli within just 7 mins, far surpassing current cutting-edge research. This theoretical framework holds promise for broader applications within related studies. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The continuous dry co-digestion of corn straw (CS) and cow manure (CM) was studied in horizontal stainless steel push-flow reactors. The highest volumetric CH4 production of 755.00 mL/(L·d) was obtained at the condition of TS = 25% with CM:CS = 1:2 (basis of TS). Under each condition, the proceeding of AD led to a decrease of shear stress, which may be attributed to the variation of the microstructure of the substrates resulting the improvement in flowing property. However, with the increase of TS content, the shear stress increased, which may be due to that the higher TS caused stronger interparticle flocculation. The viscosity increased with the enhance of proportion of CM, indicating that CM was more disadvantaged for the flow of materials than CS. Under the condition of TS=25%, the viscosity of digestion system reached 20 Pa·s, but no obvious inhibition was observed. When TS increased to 30%, CH4 production sharply decreased, which could be caused by the high viscosity (30 Pa·s) of the substrates, resulting in decreasing of mixing efficiency and formation of dead zones in the digester. Clostridiales, Bacteroidales and Methanosarcina were the dominant functional microbe for the dry co-digestion of CM and CS. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The optical fiber delay module is mainly used in the optically controlled phased array radar system, which plays a core role in the whole system. Among them, the measurement accuracy of the optical fiber delay and the optical fiber length are key technologies to realize the phase consistency of the module. In this paper, the phase error source and phase consistency control method of optical fiber delay module are analyzed. Further, the high precision phase testing technology and reliability test of optical fiber delay module are carried out. It can be concluded that the combination of fiber fusion taper and optical phase shift can significantly improve the phase accuracy. Meanwhile, the phase consistency of each channel of the fiber delay module is very excellent before and after the test.

The transformation of mercury(Hg) in the environment plays a vital role in the cycling of Hg and its risk to the ecosystem and human health. Of particular importance are Hg oxidation/reduction and methylation/demethylation processes driven or mediated by the dynamics of light, microorganisms, and organic carbon, among others. Advances in understanding those Hg transformation processes determine our capacity of projecting and mitigating Hg risk. Here, we provide a critical analysis of major knowledge gaps in our understanding of Hg transformation in nature, with perspectives on approaches moving forward. Our analysis focuses on Hg transformation processes in the environment, as well as emerging methodology in exploring these processes. Future avenues for improving the understanding of Hg transformation processes to protect ecosystem and human health are also explored.

Tetracycline pharmaceutical wastewater is difficult to be treated efficiently because of its high salinity, how to selectively degrade is critical. Herein, a novel α-Fe2O3/V2O5/BC catalyst with high activation performance for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) was constructed by co-pyrolysis method. The results indicate that 99.58% of tetracycline is degraded within 120 min and the Kobs is 0.045 min-1. The electrons conversion of Fe-V induces the continuous generation of sulfate radical (SO4•-) and singlet oxygen molecules (1O2), which are the main species in process system. Interestingly, the XPS results show that it is Fe3+ and Fe0 rather than Fe3+ and Fe2+ in the iron cycle after the introduction of Vanadium, indicating a more efficient electron transfer efficiency. The optical properties characterization and density function theory calculation reveal that the electrons of the entire α-Fe2O3 and the V atoms near the heterojunction interface are redistributed to new molecular orbitals due to strong interfacial chemical bonding, inducing a direct transfer of electrons to generate 1O2 for tetracycline selective degradation. The possible degradation mechanism and tetracycline degradation pathway were also proposed. This study provides a better strategy for the efficient treatment of antibiotic pharmaceutical wastewater. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Thermal abuse is one of the main triggers of thermal runaway (TR) in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), and the application scenario of multi-point synchronized heat generation makes the study of TR of LIBs under dual heat sources stimulation become a cutting-edge and hot issue, and the continuous application mode of the heat source becomes the main bottleneck to break through this problem. In this paper, by building an experimental platform for coupled thermal abuse stimulation, the TR mechanism and flame eruption dynamics behavior of LIBs under linear (continuous) and non-linear (intermittent) heating modes of dual heat sources are investigated. The results show that the linear heating mode exacerbates the accumulation of heat and pressure inside the battery, which in turn accelerates the process of side reactions in the battery. Compared with the non-linear heating mode, the peak TR temperature in the linear heating mode increased by 28.9 °C, and the onset of TR was 724 s. The TR flame eruption consisted of multiple processes, at 100% SOC, the jet fire erupted as a "pillar of fire" under linear heating mode. And at 50%, 75%, and 100% SOC, the jet fire area increased by 197.04 cm2, 830.97 cm2, and 2302.69 cm2 under linear heating mode compared to non-linear heating mode, respectively. Finally, toxic and flammable components were detected in the TR eruption particles. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Phthalic acid esters (PAEs) and TiO2 nanomaterials (nTiO2) are commonly used as plastic additives, nano-fertilizers or nano-pesticides. Their excessive co-applications led to the co-occurrence, which can induce damage to soil organisms such as Metaphire guillelmi (an earthworm widespread in farmland). However, the co-exposure effects of butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP, a typical PAEs) and nTiO2 on Metaphire guillelmi at environmental-relevant concentrations remain unclear. In this study, 1 mg kg−1 of both BBP and nTiO2 were added into the soil to assess: (1) their effects on oxidative damage, digestive system, and neurotoxicity in Metaphire guillelmi gut on days 14 and 28;(2) whether BBP and nTiO2 affected Metaphire guillelmi gut health by disrupting intestinal microorganisms. The results demonstrated that BBP and nTiO2 had the potential to inhibit the activity of superoxide dismutase, cellulase, protease, Na+K+-ATPase, and Ca2+-ATPase, as well as enhanced the lipid peroxidation and DNA damage by altering intestinal bacteria such as Gaiella, Singulisphaera, and Nocardioides at genus levels after 28 d-exposure. However, the exposure did not cause disorders of the intestinal bacteria. The present study provides more evidence for sustainable application and scientific management of BBP and nTiO2, thus providing better guidance for PAEs and engineered nanomaterials regulations in agroecosystem. © 2023, The Authors.
