Antimony selenosulfide (Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 ) has obtained widespread concern for photovoltaic applications as a light absorber due to superior photoelectric features. Accordingly, various deposition technologies have been developed in recent years, especially hydrothermal deposition method, which has achieved a great success. However, device performances are limited with severe carrier recombination, relating to the quality of absorber and interfaces. Herein, bulk and interface defects are simultaneously suppressed by regulating heterogeneous nucleation kinetics with barium dibromide (BaBr 2 ) introduction. In details, the Br adsorbs and dopes on the polar planes of cadmium sulfide (CdS) buffer layer, promoting the exposure of nonpolar planes of CdS, which facilitates the favorable growth of [hk1]-Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 films possessing superior crystallinity and small interface defects. Additionally, the Se/S ratio is increased due to the replacement of Se by Br, causing a downshift of the Fermi levels with a benign band alignment and a shallow-level defect. Moreover, Ba 2+ is located at grain boundaries by coordination with S and Se ions, passivating grain boundary defects. Consequently, the efficiency is increased from 7.70 % to 10.12 %. This work opens an avenue towards regulating the heterogeneous nucleation kinetics of Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 film deposited via hydrothermal deposition approach to optimize its crystalline orientation and defect features.

Due to the pronounced anisotropic response to circularly polarized light, chiral hybrid organic–inorganic metal halides have been regarded as promising candidates for the application in nonlinear chiroptics, especially for the second-harmonic generation circular dichroism (SHG-CD) effect. However, designing novel lead-free chiral hybrid metal halides with large anisotropy factors and high laser-induced damage thresholds (LDT) of SHG-CD remains challenging. Herein, we develop the first chiral hybrid germanium halide, ( R / S -NEA) 3 Ge 2 I 7 ⋅H 2 O ( R / S -NGI), and systematically investigated its linear and nonlinear chiroptical properties. S -NGI and R -NGI exhibit large anisotropy factors ( g SHG-CD ) of 0.45 and 0.48, respectively, along with a high LDT of 38.46 GW/cm 2 ; these anisotropy factors were the highest values among the reported lead-free chiral hybrid metal halides. Moreover, the effective second-order nonlinear optical coefficient of S -NGI could reach up to 0.86 pm/V, which was 2.9 times higher than that of commercial Y-cut quartz. Our findings facilitate a new avenue toward lead-free chiral hybrid metal halides, and their implementation in nonlinear chiroptical applications.

Lead halide perovskites with mixed cations/anions often suffer from phase segregation, which is detrimental to device efficiency and their long‐term stability. During perovskite film growth, the gel stage (in between liquid and crystalline) correlates to phase segregation, which has been rarely explored. Herein, cation diffusion kinetics are systematically investigated at the gel stage to develop a diffusion model obeying Fick's second law. Taking 2D layered perovskite as an example, theoretical and experimental results reveal the impact of diffusion coefficient, temperature, and gel duration on the film growth and phase formation. A homogenous 2D perovskite thin film was then fabricated without significant phase segregation. This in‐depth understanding of gel stage and relevant cation diffusion kinetics would further guide the design and processing of halide perovskites with mixed composition to meet requirements for optoelectronic applications.

The nonlinear chiroptical properties of chiral metal halide perovskite has attracted substantial attention in recent years. In order to overcome the inherent limitations of metal halide, such as high costs, potential toxicity, challenges with recycling, especially the limited laser-induced damage threshold (LDT), we have successfully constructed the first chiral metal-free anti-perovskite, with the aim of utilizing it in second harmonic generation-circular dichroism (SHG-CD). Moreover, the anti-perovskite composed entirely of small organic ions typically display a more extensive transparent window, which could contribute a high LDT. Herein two chiral metal-free anti-perovskites, R / S -MCN [( R / S -MBA) 6 Cl(NH 4 Cl 6 )] were constructed, and exhibit strong second-harmonic generation response from 800 to 980 nm. The second-order nonlinear optical coefficient of the chiral metal-free anti-perovskite reaches 0.89 pm/V, which is higher than that of commercial Y-cut quartz. Most importantly, both R - and S -MCN exhibit a large nonlinear optical activity with a high SHG dissymmetry factor ( g SHG-CD ) of 0.60 and a high laser-induced damage threshold of 71 mJ/cm 2 , which is higher than that of most reported chiral perovskites. Our findings indicate that chiral metal-free anti-perovskite have the potential to be a valuable addition to the development of next-generation nonlinear chiroptical devices.
