IPFA-Net: Important Points Feature Aggregating Net for Point Cloud Classification and Segmentation

This paper focuses on the problems of point cloud deep neural networks in classification and segmentation tasks, including losing important information during down-sampling, ignoring relationships among points when extracting features, and network performance being susceptible to the sparsity of point cloud. To begin with, this paper proposes a farthest point sampling-important points sampling method for down-sampling, which can preserve important information of point clouds and maintain the geometry of input data. Then, the local feature relation aggregating method is proposed for feature extraction, improving the network's ability to learn contextual information and extract rich local region features. Based on these methods, the important points feature aggregating net(IPFA-Net) is designed for point cloud classification and segmentation tasks. Furthermore, this paper proposes the multi-scale multi-density feature connecting method to reduce the negative impact of point cloud data sparsity on network performance. Finally, the effectiveness of IPFA-Net is demonstrated through experiments on ModelNet40, ShapeNet part, and ScanNet v2 datasets. IPFA-Net is robust to reducing the number of point clouds, with only a 3.3% decrease in accuracy under a 16-fold reduction of point number. In the part segmentation experiments, our method achieves the best segmentation performance for five objects.

Compound facial expressions recognition approach using DCGAN and CNN

Facial expression recognition (FER) technology has numerous applications in various fields such as health, entertainment and gaming, transportation, advertising and marketing, education, and many more. The recognition system based on seven basic expressions of emotion cannot satisfy the requirement for compound expression recognition as compound expressions have complex features due to a combination of basic emotions. Deep learning-based Recognition of compound emotions has recently emerged as a significant subject of academic research. Employing deep learning models to compound emotion recognition is facing imbalanced images in the dataset. To overcome the problem of imbalanced images in the dataset, the deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) architecture has been utilized to balance the imbalanced dataset. The study proposes a novel approach for compound emotion recognition based on deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) and convolutional neural network (CNN), which has been validated using the Compound Facial Expression Emotions (CFEE) and Real-world Affective Faces Database (RAFDB) datasets. Through utilizing the proposed approach, it achieved a significantly high accuracy of 72.0% for the CFEE dataset and 65.4% for RAF-DB for compound facial expressions of emotions. The AU-ROC/ AU-PR curves and ablation experiments also validated the performance of the proposed approach. The performance of the proposed model is compared with the state-of-the-art advanced models on the balanced datasets, and for both the CFEE and RAF-DB datasets, the accuracy of compound emotion recognition improved considerably. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Chinese Medical Named Entity Recognition Using Pre-Trained Language Models and an Efficient Global Pointer Mechanism

Medical Named Entity Recognition (MNER) is a critical task in medical text mining, serving as a foundation for intelligent diagnosis, disease prediction, and related tasks. However, Chinese medical texts present unique challenges, such as diverse entity classifications, varying entity lengths, and complex entity nesting, which hinder NER performance. To address these issues, we propose a Chinese MNER method leveraging pre-trained models and the efficient global pointer (EGP). Our approach incorporates three key innovations: (1) data augmentation techniques, including easy data augmentation and remote supervision with a medical entity dictionary, to address imbalanced entity types distribution and varying entity lengths;(2) a character-word fusion strategy that integrates RoBERTa-generated character vectors and Word2Vec-generated word vectors, enhancing semantic representation;and (3) an improved decoding layer based on EGP, enabling efficient recognition of both nested and flat entities while reducing computational costs. Experimentals show that our method achieves F1 scores of 75.87% and 92.77% on the CMeEE-V2 and CCKS2020 datasets, respectively, outperforming the RoBERTa-BiLSTM-CRF baseline by 3.06% and 4.38%, respectively. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. Researchers have recently achieved significant advances in deep learning techniques, which in turn has substantially advanced other research disciplines, such as natural language processing, image processing, speech recognition, and software engineering. Various deep learning techniques have been successfully employed to facilitate software engineering tasks, including code generation, software refactoring, and fault localization. Many studies have also been presented in top conferences and journals, demonstrating the applications of deep learning techniques in resolving various software engineering tasks. However,although several surveys have provided overall pictures of the application of deep learning techniques in software engineering,they focus more on learning techniques, that is, what kind of deep learning techniques are employed and how deep models are trained or fine-tuned for software engineering tasks. We still lack surveys explaining the advances of subareas in software engineering driven by deep learning techniques, as well as challenges and opportunities in each subarea. To this end, in this study, we present the first task-oriented survey on deep learning-based software engineering. It covers twelve major software engineering subareas significantly impacted by deep learning techniques. Such subareas spread out through the whole lifecycle of software development and maintenance, including requirements engineering, software development, testing, maintenance, and developer collaboration. As we believe that deep learning may provide an opportunity to revolutionize the whole discipline of software engineering, providing one survey covering as many subareas as possible in software engineering can help future research push forward the frontier of deep learning-based software engineering more systematically. Health Data Availability Protection:Delta-XOR-Relay Data Update in Erasure-Coded Cloud Storage Systems

To achieve the high availability of health data in erasure-coded cloud storage systems,the data update performance in erasure coding should be continuously ***,the data update performance is often bottlenecked by the constrained cross-rack *** techniques have been proposed in the literature to improve network bandwidth efficiency,including delta transmission,relay,and batch *** techniques were largely proposed individually previously,and in this work,we seek to use them *** mitigate the cross-rack update traffic,we propose DXR-DU which builds on four valuable techniques:(i)delta transmission,(ii)XOR-based data update,(iii)relay,and(iv)batch ***,we offer two selective update approaches:1)data-deltabased update,and 2)parity-delta-based *** proposed DXR-DU is evaluated via trace-driven local testbed *** experiments show that DXR-DU can significantly improve data update throughput while mitigating the cross-rack update traffic.

Ensemble of Two-Path Capsule Networks for Diagnosis of Turner Syndrome Using Global-Local Facial Images

Turner syndrome(TS)is a chromosomal disorder disease that only affects the growth of female *** diagnosis is of high significance for the ***,clinical screening methods are time-consuming and *** researchers used machine learning-based methods to detect TS,the performance of which needed to be ***,we propose an ensemble method of two-path capsule networks(CapsNets)for detecting TS based on global-local facial ***,the TS facial images are preprocessed and segmented into eight local parts under the direction of physicians;then,nine two-path CapsNets are respectively trained using the complete TS facial images and eight local images,in which the few-shot learning is utilized to solve the problem of limited data;finally,a probability-based ensemble method is exploited to combine nine classifiers for the classification of *** studying base classifiers,we find two meaningful facial areas are more related to TS patients,i.e.,the parts of eyes and *** results demonstrate that the proposed model is effective for the TS classification task,which achieves the highest accuracy of 0.9241.
