Eco-functional regionalization based on fuzzy clustering: A case study of Wanzhou District in the three gorges reservoir area

Eco-functional regionalization(EFR) is the base for regional ecological management in terms of the principle of adaptability and diversity. We develop a procedure and establish an index system of EFR including stable indices and fluctuant indices. Then we present a method of EFR based on fuzzy clustering, which has significant advantages over other method in science and practicality. We approach this method in Wanzhou District, which is located in the Three Gorges reservoir area, and get a two-level eco-region based on GIS. Furthermore, a series of suggestion on eco- regulation is proposed to improve the management of regional ecosystem.

This paper reviewed the international and China' s pilot program progress of VEAs, analyzed experiences, driving forces and barriers in the process of advancing VEAs in the past six years in China. The results showed: VEAs have become one of the most efficient policy tools in environmental management in most of the OECD member states. However, in China, which are still at an initial stage though developed rapidly in some regions and industrial sectors. With the analysis of the current and future developmental trends of the environmental pressure China faces, this paper pointed out that China should introduce the VEAs tools as early as possible. And at last, the paper proposed the policy design and implementation principle, policy implementation schemes of VEAs, also, key fields of VEAs in the nearer future and the roadmap to advance VEAs in China were suggested. The paper posed that VEAs could become a very useful policy tools in environmental protection, if China government prompt the policy with great efforts.

Influence of flushing-liquid's wettability on its removal efficiency of residual oil from sandy soil

The contact angles of cosolvent, nonionic surfactant, distilled water and diesel to quartz glass were tested by direct angle measuring and spreading area reverse calculating, and diesel containing sand columns were flushed by Ethanol(EtOH) solution, isopropanol(IPA) solution, Tween80, Brij35 and distilled water to investigate the influence of wettability of flushing liquid that contains surface active chemicals on its removal efficiency of residual oil from sandy soil. The results show thats with the increase of cosolvent concentration, the contact angle to quartz glass decreases to contact angle of diesel to quartz when the concentration of EtOH is greater than 70%, and that of IPA greater than 40%, while angles of two nonionic surfactants to quartz glass are greater than that of diesel, which indicates cosolvent is more powerful than nonionic surfactant in increasing its wettability to solid;the product of free oil will not vary obviously with different flushing solution as long as contact angle of flushing solution to quartz is greater than that of diesel, while free oil product will rapidly increase when the contact angle of flushing solution to quartz is smaller than that of diesel;single pore volume of 90% of EtOH solution can remove 87% of residual oil from diesel-containing sandy column, which indicates cosolvent flushing has great application potential to sandy soil contaminated by LNAPL.

Matrix-bound phosphine in Ny-Alesund Area of Arctic

Phosphine, a ubiquitous trace gas in the atmosphere, acts as a carrier of gasous phosphorus in the biogeochemical cycle. The research of phosphine will show new light on the mechanisms of how the phos- phorus supplement influence the biogeochemical cycle and global wanning. In this paper, we detect the phosphine in Arctic Pole area for the first time. The result shows that matrix-bound phosphine（MBP） ex- ists in all the samplings. Phosphine distributions varied with different environmental origins. Average phosphine concentrations in tundra soil, lake sediments, sea sediments, seabird-droppings and deer guanos were 14.17ng/kg dry, 35.44 kg dry, 67.20 kg dry, 32.9 ng/kg dry, and 25.52 ng/kg dry re- spectively. Correlation analysis shows that there is an obviously positive correlation between Porg and MBP. It could be concluded that anaerobic decomposition of Porg and the mechano-chemistry action of the rock probably are the possible reasons explaining the mechanism of MBP production in Arctic Pole area.

In recent years, the occurrence and fate of antibiotics in the aquatic environment have been the subjects of many investigations in several countries. Tetracyclines (TCs) comprise an important group of pharmaceuticals in today's human and veterinary medical practice. However, they undergo slow degradation and transformation in the aquatic environment. The removal of tetracycline (TC) and oxytetracycline (OTC) from synthetic solutions by a reverse osmosis membrane was studied. The effects of the operation parameters of the membrane, feed concentration and salinity were investigated on the removal of TCs. High removal efficiencies (>90%) were observed for TC and OTC with the RO membrane used. Removal efficiency of OTC by RO is a bit higher than TC.

Water environmental risk identification (WERI) is a basic step for industrial parks in the regional water environmental risk (WER) management. It is an effective means to control risk damage in advance and help find out the regional hazard sources. It will be helpful for putting forward corresponding countermeasures to avoid water pollution accidents. Depending on the features of risk sources, control system, as well as regional risk receptors, and taking the enterprise and its surrounding area away from 1 kilometre as the evaluation unit, integrated evaluation index system (IEIS) was developed to identify the region WER. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was applied to determine the weight of each factor. Taixing Economic Development Zone (TEDZ) was taken as a case study for the application of the model. The results showed that 3.57％, 50％ and 46.4％ of the enterprises in TEDZ had high, medium and low risks, respectively. Countermeasures were provided for the decision-makers on the risk management.

A kinds of Methamidophos wastewater was pretreated by acidification and Fenton oxidation process, and the results demonstrated that, at pH value of 2.0 and reaction temperature 100degC, a removal efficiency of TOC and sulfide of was reached to 18.33% and 90.7% respectively, at pH value of 4.0, n(H 2 O 2 ):n (Fe 2+ ) of 30 and 3.0% of H 2 O 2 , that of TOC was reached to about 24.3%, while at addition of 20% Ca(OH) 2 and pH value of 11.0 to 12.0, total of inorganic phosphorus was precipitated completely from the wastewater.

In this study,the combined effects of highly inhibitory allelochemicals gramine from Arundo donax and ethyl 2-methylacetoacetate(EMA)from Phragmites communis on cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa and their potential mechanisms were *** results showed that the growth of *** was still significantly inhibited when gramine and EMA were added *** combined inhibition of *** EMA was enhanced with exposure time ***,antagonism was found for gramine and EMA with co-toxicity coefficient(CTC) lower than 70,and addition index(AI) lower than *** medium effective concentration(EC50,3 d)of their mixture was 4.26 mg/L,lower than 0.47 mg/L of gramine and 1.19 mg/L of *** joint addition of gramine and EMA,the levels of reactive oxygen species(ROS) in the algal cells were increased,but the ROS increase ratios were lower than the sum of the ratios from single actions of gramine and *** of the growth antagonism was discussed in connection with allelochemical structures and the ROS increase level.

Changes of pattern of serum proteins were studied in the topmouth gudgeon（Pseudorasbora parva） after exposure to sub-lethal concentrations of methomyl and *** 96 h-LC values of fipronil to the topmouth gudgeon 0.143 mg/*** sub-lethal exposure studies for 96 h were designed at 1/10,1/5,1/3 and 1/2 of 96 h-LC values of methomyl and fipronil in the topmouth *** present study showed that the staining intensity of low mobility protein fractions 3 and 5 of 142 and 213 g/1 methomyl 'exposure group increased more 2 times than that of control group.A new protein fraction was appeared and fractions6 and 7 disappeared of 43 g/1 methomyl exposure,group after 96 *** staining intensity of fractions 3,4,5 and 6 increased in all fipronil exposure groups after 96 h compared to control *** decrease of three high mobility proteins,fractions 9,10 and 11 in staining intensity was observed in the serum of fish exposed to methomyl and *** present study reveals that the carbamate insecticide methomyl,and fipronil,a phenylpyrazole randomly used have profound effect on serum *** changes of electropheorogrom of fish serum proteins may be used as biomarkers of fish exposed to methomyl or fipronil.

In this study, the aged refuse excavated from a 10-year old closed landfill compartment at Shanghai Laogang Refuse Landfill was used as the substrate in a sequencing aged refuse bioreactor process for treatment of aged landfill leachate which sampled from the same landfill. Typically, screened aged refuse with a diameter less than 8 mm was used as biofiltration material in the two round shaped bioreactor with an inner diameter of 40 cm and a height of 130 cm. Influent aged leachate with initial CODCr, TN and NH3-N concentrations of 2050-2530, 1920-2710 and 1800-2500 mg/L, respectively, was introduced into the system. The corresponding concentrations in the effluent were reduced to below 400-600, 400-750, and below 15 mg/L, respectively. The sequencing aged refuse process is not effective in TN and COD removal for aged leachate treatment. It may mainly due to its low biodegradable and shortage of valid carbon source. The treatment mechanism of nitrogen removal was studied. In the process, the nitrogen removal is mainly due to the nitrate denitrification in the anoxic bioreactor, simultaneous nitrification and denitrification is exist in the aerobic bioreactor, but is not the main nitrogen removal way, which is different from the nitrogen removal mechanism of fresh leachate treatment.
