Endurable SSD-Based Read Cache for Improving the Performance of Selective Restore from Deduplication Systems

Deduplication has been commonly used in both enterprise storage systems and cloud storage. To overcome the performance challenge for the selective restore operations of deduplication systems, solid-state-drive-based （i.e., SSD-based） re^d cache cm, be deployed for speeding up by caching popular restore contents dynamically. Unfortunately, frequent data updates induced by classical cache schemes （e.g., LRU and LFU） significantly shorten SSDs＇ lifetime while slowing down I/O processes in SSDs. To address this problem, we propose a new solution -- LOP-Cache to greatly improve tile write durability of SSDs as well as I/O performance by enlarging the proportion of long-term popular （LOP） data among data written into SSD-based cache. LOP-Cache keeps LOP data in the SSD cache for a long time period to decrease the number of cache replacements. Furthermore, it prevents unpopular or unnecessary data in deduplication containers from being written into the SSD cache. We implemented LOP-Cache in a prototype deduplication system to evaluate its pertbrmance. Our experimental results indicate that LOP-Cache shortens the latency of selective restore by an average of 37.3% at the cost of a small SSD-based cache with only 5.56% capacity of the deduplicated data. Importantly, LOP-Cache improves SSDs＇ lifetime by a factor of 9.77. The evidence shows that LOP-Cache offers a cost-efficient SSD-based read cache solution to boost performance of selective restore for deduplication systems.

Since 2005,dozens of geographical observational stations have been established in the Heihe River Basin(HRB),and by now a large amount of meteorological,hydrological,and ecological observations as well as data pertaining to water resources,soil and vegetation have been *** adequately analyze these available data and data to be further collected in future,we present a perspective from complexity *** concrete materials covered include a presentation of adaptive multiscale filter,which can readily determine arbitrary trends,maximally reduce noise,and reliably perform fractal and multifractal analysis,and a presentation of scale-dependent Lyapunov exponent(SDLE),which can reliably distinguish deterministic chaos from random processes,determine the error doubling time for prediction,and obtain the defining parameters of the process *** adaptive filter is illustrated by applying it to obtain the global warming trend and the Atlantic multidecadal oscillation from sea surface temperature data,and by applying it to some variables collected at the HRB to determine diurnal cycle and fractal *** SDLE is illustrated to determine intermittent chaos from river flow data.

Adaptive unimodal cost volume filtering for deep stereo matching

state-of-the-art deep learning based stereo matching approaches treat disparity estimation as a regression problem, where loss function is directly defined on true disparities and their estimated ones. However, disparity is just a byproduct of a matching process modeled by cost volume, while indirectly learning cost volume driven by disparity regression is prone to overfitting since the cost volume is under constrained. In this paper, we propose to directly add constraints to the cost volume by filtering cost volume with unimodal distribution peaked at true disparities. In addition, variances of the unimodal distributions for each pixel are estimated to explicitly model matching uncertainty under different contexts. The proposed architecture achieves state-of-the-art performance on Scene Flow and two KITTI stereo benchmarks. In particular, our method ranked the 1st place of KITTI 2012 evaluation and the 4th place of KITTI 2015 evaluation (recorded on 2019.8.20). Adaptive NMS: Refining pedestrian detection in a crowd

Pedestrian detection in a crowd is a very challenging issue. This paper addresses this problem by a novel NonMaximum Suppression (NMS) algorithm to better refine the bounding boxes given by detectors. The contributions are threefold: (1) we propose adaptive-NMS, which applies a dynamic suppression threshold to an instance, according to the target density;(2) we design an efficient subnetwork to learn density scores, which can be conveniently embedded into both the single-stage and two-stage detectors;and (3) we achieve state of the art results on the CityPersons and CrowdHuman benchmarks. Background: Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a classical autoimmune disease, which is highly influenced by genetic determinants. Many genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have reported that numerous genetic loci were significantly associated with PBC susceptibility. However, the effects of genetic determinants on liver cells and its immune microenvironment for PBC remain unclear. Results: We constructed a powerful computational framework to integrate GWAS summary statistics with scRNA-seq data to uncover genetics-modulated liver cell subpopulations for PBC. Based on our multi-omics integrative analysis, 29 risk genes including ORMDL3, GSNK2B, and DDAH2 were significantly associated with PBC susceptibility. By combining GWAS summary statistics with scRNA-seq data, we found that cholangiocytes exhibited a notable enrichment by PBC-related genetic association signals (Permuted P + cholangiocytes have prominently higher metabolism activity score than ORMDL3- cholangiocytes (P = 1.383×10-15). Compared with ORMDL3- cholangiocytes, there were 77 significantly differentially expressed genes among ORMDL3+ cholangiocytes (FDR + cholangiocytes exhibited relatively high communications with macrophage and monocyte. Compared with ORMDL3cholangiocytes, the VEGF signaling pathway is specific for ORMDL3+ cholangiocytes to interact with other cell populations. Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to integrate genetic information with single cell sequencing data for parsing genetics-influenced liver cells for PBC risk. We identified that ORMDL3+ cholangiocytes with higher metabolism activity play important immune-modulatory roles in the etiology of PBC. © 2021, CC BY.

The purpose of this paper is to design a coherent feedback controller for a Markovian jump linear quantum system suffering from a fault signal. The control objective is to bound the effect of the disturbance input on the output for the time-varying quantum system. We prove the relation between the H ∞ control problem, the dissipation properties, and the solutions of Riccati differential equations, by which the H ∞ controller of the Markovian jump linear quantum system is given by the solutions of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs).

Modern large-scale cloud platforms require live migration technique on Docker containers with stateful workload to support load balancing, host maintenance, and Quality of Service (QoS) improvement. Efficient and scalable Docker live migration is expected to guarantee the component-integrity (image, runtime, and management context) with negligible downtime. In this paper, we present a highly efficient live migration system called Sledge, which ensures the component-integrity by integrating both images and management context during runtime migration. The key insight is that the layered image can be leveraged to reduce the migration overhead, and appropriately selective migration of management context will effectively improve QoS with negligible downtime. To achieve good scalability, a lightweight container registry mechanism for end-to-end image migration is designed to avoid the redundant layers transmission. In addition, a dynamic context loading scheme is proposed to precisely load the management context into the running daemon, which can significantly reduce downtime. Experiments show that, compared with the state-of-the-art, Sledge reduces 57% of total migration time, 55% of image migration time, and 70% downtime.

Accelerating drug repurposing for COVID-19 via modeling drug mechanism of action with large scale gene-expression profiles

The novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19, has rapidly spread worldwide. Developing methods to identify the therapeutic activity of drugs based on phenotypic data can improve the efficiency of drug development. Here, a state-of-the-art machine-learning method was used to identify drug mechanisms of action (MoA) based on the cell image features of 1105 drugs in the LINCS database. As the multi-dimensional features of cell images are affected by non-experimental factors, the characteristics of similar drugs vary considerably, and it is difficult to effectively identify the MoA of drugs as there is substantial noise. By applying the supervised information theoretic metric-learning (ITML) algorithm, a linear transformation made drugs with the same MoA aggregate. By clustering drugs to communities and performing enrichment analysis, we found that transferred image features were more conducive to the recognition of drug MoA. Image features analysis showed that different features play important roles in identifying different drug functions. Drugs that significantly affect cell survival or proliferation, such as cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors, were more likely to be enriched in communities, whereas other drugs might be decentralized. Chloroquine and clomiphene, which block the entry of virus, were clustered into the same community, indicating that similar MoA could be reflected by the cell image. Overall, the findings of the present study laid the foundation for the discovery of MoAs of new drugs, based on image data. In addition, it provided a new method of drug repurposing for COVID-19.
