A general wireless sensor network (WSN) is a system composed of a large number of sensor nodes. In the WSN system, all sensor nodes are responsible for sensing the interested events and transmitting the related information back to the sink node. The sink node acts like the brain of the whole WSN system for processing the collected data and giving control commands. The position of the sink node directly affects the data transmission efficiency and the distance from the terminal sensor node to the sink node. Thus, choosing the correct place to place the sink node in the whole network is a delicate work. In this paper, we propose a sink node placement method by proposing a newly designed object function and utilizing Cat Swarm Optimization (CSO) to find out the near best location for placing the sink node. The simulation results indicate that our proposed method presents good performance compared with the conventional Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm in reducing the overall energy consumption and prolongs the lifetime of network in an efficient way. © 2016 IEEE.

Cloud storage has been gaining tremendous popularity among individuals and corporations because of its low maintenance cost and on-demand services for the clients. To improve the availability and the reliability of critical data, storing multiple replicas on multiple servers is a commonly used strategy. Currently, several provable data possession (PDP) protocols for multiple replicas of dynamic data have been proposed to ensure the integrity of outsourced multi-copy data, but the efficiency of these protocols on verifying multiple replicas one by one is not satisfactory. In this paper, we propose a provable multiple replication data possession protocol with full dynamics, named MR-DPDP. In MR-DPDP, we utilize a novel authenticated data structure called Merkle hash tree with rank to support both full dynamic data updates and efficient integrity verification. In addition, our construction with RSA signature can support both variable-sized file blocks and public verification. Through security proof and performance evaluation, we demonstrate that MR-DPDP not only is sound but also incurs less communication overhead when updating data blocks as well as verifying a proof of the integrity of multiple replicas. High blood pressure is a highly heritable and modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease. We report the largest genetic association study of blood pressure traits (systolic, diastolic and pulse pressure) to date in over 1 million people of European ancestry. We identify 535 novel blood pressure loci that not only offer new biological insights into blood pressure regulation but also highlight shared genetic architecture between blood pressure and lifestyle exposures. Our findings identify new biological pathways for blood pressure regulation with potential for improved cardiovascular disease prevention in the future.

Combinations of intense non-pharmaceutical interventions (lockdowns) were introduced in countries worldwide to reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Many governments have begun to implement lockdown exit strategies that allow restrictions to be relaxed while attempting to control the risk of a surge in cases. Mathematical modelling has played a central role in guiding interventions, but the challenge of designing optimal exit strategies in the face of ongoing transmission is unprecedented. Here, we report discussions from the Isaac Newton Institute "Models for an exit strategy" workshop (11-15 May 2020). A diverse community of modellers who are providing evidence to governments worldwide were asked to identify the main questions that, if answered, will allow for more accurate predictions of the effects of different exit strategies. Based on these questions, we propose a roadmap to facilitate the development of reliable models to guide exit strategies. The roadmap requires a global collaborative effort from the scientific community and policy-makers, and is made up of three parts: i) improve estimation of key epidemiological parameters;ii) understand sources of heterogeneity in populations;iii) focus on requirements for data collection, particularly in Low-to-Middle-Income countries. This will provide important information for planning exit strategies that balance socio-economic benefits with public health. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

As an important characteristic of social media (i.e. Flickr or Facebook), user communities or groups are beginning to attract increasing attention. Most of the previous studies on group recommendation only consider a homogeneous relationship, such as the rating of users to groups in social network. In real world, each group has its textual descriptions (e.g. the "Sky & Cloud" group in Flickr), and the describing words about a given group may mention particular entities as well as their belonging categories (e.g. "Nature"). In fact, the group recommendation can be conducted in a heterogeneous information network, where informative cues are in general multi-typed. Motivated by the assumption that different types of relationships in heterogeneous information network can be potentially used to boost the performance of the group recommendation. We propose to combine heterogeneous relationship information for users with implicit user feedback. In general, the group recommendation in this paper is formulated as a non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) method regularized with user-user similarity via heterogeneous information networks. Experiments show that our proposed approach outperforms other counterpart recommendation techniques. © 2015 ACM.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified >250 loci for body mass index (BMI), implicating pathways related to neuronal biology. Most GWAS loci represent clusters of common, noncoding variants from which pinpointing causal genes remains challenging. Here we combined data from 718,734 individuals to discover rare and low-frequency (minor allele frequency (MAF) < 5%) coding variants associated with BMI. We identified 14 coding variants in 13 genes, of which 8 variants were in genes (ZBTB7B, ACHE, RAPGEF3, RAB21, ZFHX3, ENTPD6, ZFR2 and ZNF169) newly implicated in human obesity, 2 variants were in genes (MC4R and KSR2) previously observed to be mutated in extreme obesity and 2 variants were in GIPR. The effect sizes of rare variants are ~10 times larger than those of common variants, with the largest effect observed in carriers of an MC4R mutation introducing a stop codon (***35Ter, MAF = 0.01%), who weighed ~7 kg more than non-carriers. Pathway analyses based on the variants associated with BMI confirm enrichment of neuronal genes and provide new evidence for adipocyte and energy expenditure biology, widening the potential of genetically supported therapeutic targets in obesity.

Motivated by the fact that the l 1 -penalty is piecewise linear, we proposed a ramp loss linear programming nonparallel support vector machine (ramp-LPNPSVM), in which the l 1 -penalty is applied for the RNPSVM, for binary classification. Since the ramp loss has the piecewise linearity as well, ramp- LPNPSVM is a piecewise linear minimization problem and a local minimum can be effectively found by the Concave Convex Procedure and experimental results on benchmark datasets confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Moreover, the l 1 -penalty can enhance the sparsity.

Transcriptomic imputation approaches combine eQTL reference panels with large-scale genotype data in order to test associations between disease and gene expression. These genic associations could elucidate signals in complex genome-wide association study (GWAS) loci and may disentangle the role of different tissues in disease development. We used the largest eQTL reference panel for the dorso-lateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) to create a set of gene expression predictors and demonstrate their utility. We applied DLPFC and 12 GTEx-brain predictors to 40,299 schizophrenia cases and 65,264 matched controls for a large transcriptomic imputation study of schizophrenia. We identified 413 genic associations across 13 brain regions. Stepwise conditioning identified 67 non-MHC genes, of which 14 did not fall within previous GWAS loci. We identified 36 significantly enriched pathways, including hexosaminidase-A deficiency, and multiple porphyric disorder pathways. We investigated developmental expression patterns among the 67 non-MHC genes and identified specific groups of pre- and postnatal expression.

Optimizing multiple ontology alignments through hybrid evolutionary algorithm based on a new elitist strategy

In this paper, we propose a hybrid evolutionary algorithm based on a new elitist strategy to address the problem of optimizing the multiple ontology alignments simultaneously. Comparing with the conventional approach, our method is able to deal with multiple pair of ontologies at a time, and through a new elitist strategy, avoid the bias improvement caused by f-measure. Experimental results show that our approach is effective. © 2016 ICIC International.

Population stratification is a useful approach for a better understanding of complex biological problems in human health and wellbeing. The proposal that such stratification applies to the human gut microbiome, in the form of distinct community composition types termed enterotypes, has been met with both excitement and controversy. In view of accumulated data and re-analyses since the original work, we revisit the concept of enterotypes, discuss different methods of dividing up the landscape of possible microbiome configurations, and put these concepts into functional, ecological and medical contexts. As enterotypes are of use in describing the gut microbial community landscape and may become relevant in clinical practice, we aim to reconcile differing views and encourage a balanced application of the concept.
