Fatigue is a prevalent issue that disrupts the overall well-being of individuals, leading to impaired cognitive functions such as learning, thinking, reasoning, remembering, and problem-solving. Chronic fatigue significantly increases the risk of accidents due to reduced focus, vigilance, and delayed reaction times. Traditional self-assessment methods for detecting fatigue are subjective and often unreliable. Recent advancements in neuroimaging have demonstrated that EEG signal analysis can objectively classify an individual's mental state. This research aims to develop a reliable and accurate EEG signal fatigue detection system. The EEG signals are decomposed into four levels using a one-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (1D-DWT). Textural features are extracted using binary pattern (BP) analysis and combined with seven statistical features. Then, these features are fed into a k-nearest neighbors (KNN) classifier to distinguish between the rest and fatigue states. Utilizing a dataset from the Mendeley Data website, the proposed system achieved an accuracy of 93.75%, precision between 93% and 95%, recall ranging from 92% to 95%, and an F1-score of 93% to 94%. This study highlights the potential of EEG-based systems to provide objective and accurate assessments of fatigue levels, thereby reducing the risks associated with chronic fatigue in daily life. © 2024 IEEE.

Recent advancements in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has allowed their deployment for numerous applications like aerial photography, infrastructure inspection, search and rescue, and surveillance. Despite the potential for full autonomy, many applications still necessitate human operators for navigating complex environments and decision-making. Existing solutions often employ high-precision and simple sensors like 2-D or 3-D LiDAR, which may provide more data than necessary and contribute to increased system complexity and cost. To address these challenges and bridge the gap between full autonomy and human-controlled UAVs, this work develops a shared-autonomy framework for UAVs, leveraging lightweight, low-cost 1-D LiDAR sensors combined with mobility behaviors to obtain performance comparable to more advanced 2-D/3-D LiDAR sensors while minimizing energy, computation overhead, and weight. Our framework includes a novel state machine method that exploits the UAV mobility to compensate for the limitations of 1-D LiDAR sensors, ensuring safety and obstacle avoidance through a physics-based algorithm that transitions between teleoperation and autonomous mode as needed based on environmental conditions and safety-critical issues. Experimental validations on real UAVs demonstrates the effectiveness of this shared autonomy scheme in complex environments, and the system is further generalized to larger UAVs and prototyped with a custom sensor configuration and onboard obstacle avoidance.

Classifying the visual features in images to retrieve a specific image is a significant problem within the computer vision field especially when dealing with historical faded colored ***,there were lots of efforts trying to automate the classification operation and retrieve similar images *** reach this goal,we developed a VGG19 deep convolutional neural network to extract the visual features from the images ***,the distances among the extracted features vectors are measured and a similarity score is generated using a Siamese deep neural *** Siamese model built and trained at first from scratch but,it didn’t generated high evaluation ***,we re-built it from VGG19 pre-trained deep learning model to generate higher evaluation ***,three different distance metrics combined with the Sigmoid activation function are experimented looking for the most accurate method formeasuring the similarities among the retrieved *** that the highest evaluation parameters generated using the Cosine distance ***,the Graphics Processing Unit(GPU)utilized to run the code instead of running it on the Central Processing Unit(CPU).This step optimized the execution further since it expedited both the training and the retrieval time *** extensive experimentation,we reached satisfactory solution recording 0.98 and 0.99 F-score for the classification and for the retrieval,respectively.

Making medical reports easily understandable for a wider audience is a significant endeavor, and the recent advancements in deep learning and large language models offer a promising solution. In our research, we have introduced a fine-tuned Text-to-Text Transformer (T5) model to efficiently summarize these medical reports. Our model is trained and assessed on the publicly accessible Indiana Dataset. To gauge its effectiveness, we employ the ROUGE metrics. The outcomes we've achieved hold promise for the potential of this approach in enhancing medical report summarization. A power outage can have serious consequences in today's modern society, since technology has become an essential component of our everyday existence. Also continuous power breakdowns have far-reaching consequences in our increasingly connected world. From communication disruptions to healthcare risks, transportation challenges, economic setbacks, and psychological impact, the hardships faced by people during power outages are significant. People suffer a great deal as a result of frequent power outages, which can interfere with vital services like emergency response and healthcare as well as disrupt communication and transportation networks. To address the hardships faced by remote and underprivileged villages due to continuous power breakdowns, a solar electrification station is developed as a sustainable energy solution. The project focuses on providing a reliable and uninterrupted power source, particularly during the rainy season when floods disrupt normal life. The installation of a 3kW monocrystalline solar panel system, operated as a standalone solar system, powers the village school, ensuring uninterrupted education for students. © 2024 IEEE.

Anomaly detection from medical images is badly needed for automated diagnosis. For example, medical images obtained with several modalities, such as magnetic resonance (MR) and confocal microscopy, need to be classified for anomaly detection. The MR images may contain tumors that need to be detected with anomaly detection techniques. In MR imaging, brain tumors are represented as areas composed of abnormal cells that need to be detected. On the other hand, confocal microscopy can be used for retinal imaging. Hence, there is a need to apply classification techniques for diagnosing diseases of the eye, such as Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), which leads to exudates in different regions of the retina. The detection of exudates is necessary for the diagnosis of DR. In this paper, two models are presented for the classification of MR and retinal images. Much research has been done in this area, but it did not achieve high accuracy of classification in an acceptable time. In addition, the previous models did not consider both types of image modalities considered in this paper. The suggested models are Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (Conv-LSTM). They are used to classify normal and abnormal cases of both brain tumor and DR diseases. The CNN model is composed of six convolutional layers and six max-pooling layers. A soft-max activation function takes the classification decision. The proposed Conv-LSTM model is composed of three stages: pre-processing, feature extraction, and classification. The deep learning model performance is better than those of traditional networks. The CNN gives an accuracy of 94.26% for DR classification and 95.8% for brain tumor classification, while the Conv-LSTM gives the maximum accuracy of 96.41% for DR classification and 97.4% for brain tumor classification. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

The growing sophistication of cyberthreats,among others the Distributed Denial of Service attacks,has exposed limitations in traditional rule-based Security information and Event Management *** machine learning–based intrusion detection systems can capture complex network behaviours,their“black-box”nature often limits trust and actionable insight for security *** study introduces a novel approach that integrates Explainable Artificial Intelligence—xAI—with the Random Forest classifier to derive human-interpretable rules,thereby enhancing the detection of Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS)*** proposed framework combines traditional static rule formulation with advanced xAI techniques—SHapley Additive exPlanations and Scoped Rules-to extract decision criteria from a fully trained *** methodology was validated on two benchmark datasets,CICIDS2017 and *** rules were evaluated against conventional Security information and Event Management systems rules with metrics such as precision,recall,accuracy,balanced accuracy,and Matthews Correlation *** results demonstrate that xAI-derived rules consistently outperform traditional static ***,the most refined xAI-generated rule achieved near-perfect performance with significantly improved detection of DDoS traffic while maintaining high accuracy in classifying benign traffic across both datasets.

Integrated high-linearity modulators are crucial for high dynamic-range microwave photonic(MWP)*** linearization schemes usually involve the fine tuning of radio-frequency(RF)power distribution,which is rather inconvenient for practical applications and can hardly be implemented on the integrated photonics *** this paper,we propose an elegant scheme to linearize a silicon-based modulator in which the active tuning of RF power is *** device consists of two carrier-depletion-based Mach-Zehnder modulators(MZMs),which are connected in series by a 1×2 thermal optical switch(OS).The OS is used to adjust the ratio between the modulation depths of the two *** a proper ratio,the complementary third-order intermodulation distortion(IMD3)of the two sub-MZMs can effectively cancel each other *** measured spurious-free dynamic ranges for IMD3 are 131,127,118,110,and 109 d B·Hz^(6∕7)at frequencies of 1,10,20,30,and 40 GHz,respectively,which represent the highest linearities ever reached by the integrated modulator chips on all available material platforms.

Teleoperation is an important technology to enable supervisors to control agricultural robots remotely. However, environmental factors in dense crop rows and limitations in network infrastructure hinder the reliability of data streamed to teleoperators. These issues result in delayed and variable frame rate video feeds that often deviate significantly from the robot’s actual viewpoint. We propose a modular learning-based vision pipeline to generate delay-compensated images in real-time for supervisors. Our extensive offline evaluations demonstrate that our method generates more accurate images compared to state-of-the-art approaches in our setting. Additionally, ours is one of the few works to evaluate a delay-compensation method in outdoor field environments with complex terrain on data from a real robot in real-time.
