We studied the ecological benefits of four types of urban green spaces (lawn, a Robinia pseudoacacia stand, a Pinus tabulaeformis stand and a mixed stand of both species) in Yuan Dynasty Wall Relics Park, Beijing. Each of the eight sampling sites was about 0.1 hm2. The experiment was carried out in June, 2006 over a period of eight consecutive days, during which we continuously measured air temperature, relative humidity (RH) and wind speed at the four green spaces in both horizontal and vertical directions. The results were as follows: in the horizontal direction, the all-day average temperature at the pine stand was the lowest and its RH was the highest under three different climate conditions. During the day-time high temperature period, the temperature of the lawn was the highest and its RH the lowest. The temperature was lowest for the mixed stand, and the RH was highest for the pine stand. The highest average daily temperature occurred in the locust stand. The temperature and RH of the four green spaces were statistically different at the 0.05 level of significance. In the vertical direction, the average daily temperature of the four green spaces increased with height. The average daily RH of the four-green spaces decreased slightly with increased height. During the high temperature period of the day, the average temperature of the lawn and the P. tabulaeformis stand declined with the increased height, but the temperature at the R. pseudoa-caeia stand and the mixed P. tabulaeformis-R, pseudoaca-cia stand fluctuated greatly. With regard to the effect of lowering the wind speed, the mixed stand was better than the other green spaces. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the mixed Chinese pine and locust stand was the best choice for the establishment of urban green spaces.

A vehicle longitudinal dynamics model including a vehicle emission submodel was established by the quantitative analysis of the effects of the vehicle cruise control on reducing the fuel consumption and emission pollutants, and a new adaptive fuzzy PID control algorithm of vehicle cruise control was suggested based on the traditional cruise fuzzy controller. With these two control algorithms, the vehicle fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of CO, HC, and NOx were compared under the typical cruise conditions. Therefore, the effects of the vehicle cruise control system on the vehicle emissions can be analyzed quantitatively instead of qualitatively, and a new evaluation method was provided to the optimization of the vehicle cruise control algorithm.

A novel direct power control (DPC) strategy for three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) pulse-width-modulation (PWM) rectifier, based on fixed synthesizing vectors, is proposed in this paper. The strategy breaks through the restrictions of vector switching with a simple switching table, improves the excellent dynamic performance of DPC, avoids the neutral-point voltage unbalance and the excessive voltage jumps in phase and line-to-line voltages of the rectifier, and guarantees the proper minimum pulse width and switching intervals between switches in different phases simultaneously. Experimental results verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed scheme.

A chronic drinking water shortage is one of the most important issues in the developing countries, and drinking water from dirty water sources causes serious damage to inhabitants health in some remote areas. The solar distillation remains the most favorable process for the supplying of water to small communities. Base on the traditional solar still, an improved hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PVT) desalination system is presented. The PV modules that are combined with thermal units, constitute the PVT systems which has longer operating time and higher average fresh water production. This paper introduces the DC/DC converter applied in this type of systems, including its structure and control strategy which is suitable for PV array and driving supportive heater. The experimental results for the converter and the whole system are showed and analyzed.

Based on the working principle, the internal configuration, and the valve system behavior of the shock absorber (SA), a mathematical model for the stroke dependent SA was built using the software ADAMS/Hydraulics. The damping force of the stroke dependent SA depends on not only the retative movement velocity, but also its displacement. In this model, the relationship between the SA dynamic behavior and its internal configuration was established by the parameters describing the valve system behavior. The calculated results agree well with the test data. The suggested model can be used to study the effects of construction parameters and dynamic behavior of the SA on the vehicle performance.
